Chapter 177: Chapter 177: Man-made Trap

However, her reconnaissance had surprised her, as the jungle turned out to be unfathomably deep; the spot where they had encountered the wild boar was merely at the perimeter.

Moreover, as they ventured deeper, the concentration of carbon dioxide emissions increased, and she could not tell if the sources were humans or animals.

Bai Junjun silently and swiftly reached the location where they had captured the wild boar, glanced around, and saw that it once again resembled their earlier setting. It appeared as if the master of the place had not yet discovered that the prey had been hunted, and subsequently taken by someone else.

Bai Junjun crossed the wild boar trap and continued forward, but after only walking half a mile, she sensed something was wrong. Though the dense jungle lay ahead, there was an eerie trace floating in the air.

She couldn’t pinpoint the exact nature of this eeriness, but having lived her life on the edge, Bai Junjun had a natural sharpness for danger. She gradually slowed her pace, always keeping her eyes surveying her surroundings, yet inadvertently, her foot caught on a strand of hair.

The uncontrollable event happened.

After touching this strand of hair, spears suddenly flew at her from all directions.

The spears were as sharp as those in the wild boar trap.

Bai Junjun dodged left and right in distress, and in the nick of time, she activated her Special Ability to control these spears, barely turning the tide from danger to safety.

However, while she managed to control the spears, something hooked her foot, and a sudden net engulfed her, hoisting her up into the air along with those sharpened spears like a dumpling.

Taken by surprise, Bai Junjun exclaimed that the person setting the traps was ruthless.

First spears, then a net—it seemed even if one dodged the arrow feathers, the ground net could not be avoided, and when it closed around her, the spears were positioned to pierce through a person again.

This Heavenly Net was clearly meant to leave no route of survival.

Luckily, Bai Junjun possessed a Wood-Series Ability, or else any ordinary person caught in such a trap might have ended up dead.

Bai Junjun used her Special Ability to control the vines to release her.

Upon landing, Bai Junjun didn’t rush off; she pulled back with her hand, restoring the vine net to its person-catching arrangement and, to further confuse any onlookers, she intentionally filled it with a lot of straw and covered it with leaves.

At a glance, it looked as if someone had been turned into a hedgehog.

Bai Junjun set a binding spell, so if someone were to touch the vine net, the spears inside would immediately turn around and attack the intruder.

After setting the counter-trap, Bai Junjun left gently.

For now, she dared not probe any further forward, for heaven knows if a small squad awaited her inside.

Considering the relentless setup of the traps, it was certainly not the work of an ordinary individual.

It was just unclear which faction they belonged to.

Bai Junjun decided to withdraw for now and revisit the situation later.

...

At that time, right after Bai Junjun had left, two figures, one large and one small, appeared on the east side of the trap.

The two glanced over the devastated scene and finally noticed something large hanging on one of the trees.

The smaller one exclaimed, "There really is someone! We caught someone."

"That’s why I told you to stop crying. Thinking of solutions is more useful than tears, isn’t it?"

The taller one sarcastically commented before casually approaching the vine net, but after a quick glance at the tree’s vine net, the newcomer sensed something was amiss.

"What’s wrong?" asked the shorter one, puzzled.

"Step back a bit," said the taller one, retreating a few yards before also reaching for a dagger and throwing it upwards like a dart.

The dagger swiftly sliced through the hanging vines, and as the vines lost their restraint, they immediately spread out.

Surprisingly, upon spreading, the spears seemed to take on a life of their own, flying toward them.
