Chapter 181: Chapter 181 Parents’ Panic
Mrs. Jiang had just finished speaking when Father Jiang continued, saying, "Xue’er, your mom is right. We’re happy that you’re thinking of us when you plan to buy a house. But, you don’t have to say that it’s for us, after all, you’ve already married out."
"Moreover, speaking of it, we have wronged you. Because of me, you had to quit school. That essentially ruined your future, and we’re guilty about that. The fact that you can still spend money on my surgery is enough for me."
Listening to her father’s guilty words and seeing his remorseful face, Jiang Xue also felt a pang of discomfort in her heart. Originally, she mentioned buying a house to cheer up the two elders and to divert their attention.
Who knew that as the conversation progressed, it would make them feel even guiltier. She really shouldn’t have done it, and felt unfilial.
So, Jiang Xue raised her head, looked at her parents, and said, "Dad, Mom, how can you say such things? Yes, I dropped out of school because of Dad. But didn’t you find me a good husband, a good family to marry into?"
"Even if that doesn’t count, you raised me up with great care. Bringing me up to this age, how can your nurturing love not be worth more than a house?"
Jiang Xue’s words made Father Jiang’s heart skip a beat, and he felt a bit flustered. He glanced at Mrs. Jiang before looking at Jiang Xue’s face, thinking to himself: Could it be that she found out something?
Mrs. Jiang, just like Father Jiang, was flustered upon hearing Jiang Xue’s words. She wasn’t as composed as Father Jiang and directly asked, "Xue’er, what do you mean by that?"
"Mom, what’s wrong?" Jiang Xue was a bit puzzled as she looked at Mrs. Jiang. The words she said didn’t seem to have any issues, so why did Mrs. Jiang’s expression look a bit off?
"No, nothing!" Mrs. Jiang awkwardly turned her face away, not daring to look at Jiang Xue, with a guilty expression.
Jiang Xue, seeing Mrs. Jiang like this, though a bit baffled, didn’t overthink it. Noticing it was getting late, she stood up and said, "Dad, Mom, I’ll go get some food."
After she finished speaking, she left.
Mrs. Jiang watched Jiang Xue leave and also quietly got up, walked to the door. It wasn’t until she saw Jiang Xue walk far away that she returned to the ward, looked at Father Jiang, and asked, "Old man, do you think Xue’er has found out something?"
"Impossible, right? We didn’t say anything, so how would she know?" Father Jiang, upon hearing Jiang Xue’s words, was also a bit suspicious at first. But then he thought it over and felt it was unlikely.
They hadn’t told anyone, and not many people knew about the matter back then.
So, thinking it over, he said to Mrs. Jiang, "We shouldn’t scare ourselves. Xue’er probably didn’t mean anything else."
"However, we do need to be a little more careful in the future, and never show our hand. Don’t get flustered like you just did when things aren’t clear. Fortunately, Xue’er didn’t think too deeply about it; otherwise, it would be troublesome."
"I understand." Mrs. Jiang nodded. After a while, she still felt uneasy and looked at Father Jiang, asking, "Do you really think Xue’er’s words didn’t have any other meaning?"
"Probably not, don’t overthink it."
"I’ll trust you." Mrs. Jiang stopped talking, but she still had some unease in her heart.
When Jiang Xue returned with food and saw her parents still looking preoccupied, she didn’t think much of it, assuming they were still worried about the surgery.
"Dad, Mom, time to eat." Jiang Xue said deliberately to lighten the mood, "I specially bought the dishes you love today."
