Chapter 111: Chapter 111: Heading to the County Town
They were just worried that Jiang Xue would be away in town for too long, and Little Reunion would be hungry at home. Just a few days ago, Little Reunion refused to drink formula milk, and they were afraid their little grandson would go hungry.
Jiang Xue understood their concerns and therefore convinced the elderly couple to let her take Little Reunion along.
Jiang Xue had already come up with a plan. Once she got to the town to switch buses, she would put Little Reunion in the space, letting Little Fox stay with him.
This way, she could go about her business without delay, and Little Reunion wouldn’t be hungry. These days, Little Reunion had been drinking only bamboo marrow and not even touching milk.
Walking while holding the child was simply impossible. So, she found a baby carrier, strapped the child on her back, brought along some spare diapers, and headed to the highway outside the village, ready to catch a bus to town.
Since there was no direct bus to Xu City, she had to switch buses in town. Bai Yuhua was still a bit worried, so she accompanied her to the highway and only returned home after watching her get on the bus.
Jiang Xue took the bus to town, visited a restroom, and then found a quiet place to put the child down, taking him into the space and asking Little Fox to take care of him.
Little Fox was very fond of Little Reunion and happily agreed.
After sending the child into the space, Jiang Xue, feeling light as a feather, boarded the bus heading to Xu City. It took about an hour and a half from town to Xu City.
Once on the bus, Jiang Xue planned to close her eyes and rest when suddenly, a man approached her with a surprise on his face, exclaiming, "Jiang Xue?"
Jiang Xue looked up at him; the man was none other than her classmate Wang Ziwen.
"Hello!" Jiang Xue greeted Wang Ziwen with a smile and then watched as he sat down beside her.
"Jiang Xue, I heard you dropped out, is that true?" Wang Ziwen’s family lived in town; he and Jiang Xue had previously attended high school in Xu City together, though not in the same class.
Since they were from the same town, they would occasionally say hello.
"Yes!" Jiang Xue nodded, and Wang Ziwen, looking regretful, said, "Such a pity, your grades were so good. If you hadn’t dropped out, you surely would have made it to university."
If it were in the past, Jiang Xue might have cared about this. But now, she didn’t care at all. She had made up her mind to self-study and was confident she could earn a college degree on her own.
"That’s all in the past. Let’s talk about you; I heard you got into university. Where did you go?" Jiang Xue didn’t want to talk about herself further and asked about Wang Ziwen instead.
"Me, I’m studying at Xucheng Normal University," Wang Ziwen said with a smile. He had been admitted to a teacher-training university in the city, not too far from home, so he could visit home whenever he missed it.
"Becoming a teacher is great."
"No, no, if you hadn’t dropped out, you surely would have gotten into Nan University." Wang Ziwen modestly replied. Both he and Jiang Xue were from the same town, and he knew very well how good Jiang Xue’s academic performance was.
"Hehe!" Jiang Xue chuckled, not continuing the topic. Moreover, she was feeling a bit carsick, so she remained silent.
Seeing Jiang Xue’s discomfort, Wang Ziwen didn’t say much else and closed his eyes to rest.
Upon arriving in Xu City, Jiang Xue got off the bus, bid farewell to Wang Ziwen, and headed straight to the education bureau. Her main aim today was to inquire about the self-study exams, so she made the education bureau her first stop.
