Chapter 412: Chapter 412 Severing Ties 2
Lu Siyuan hadn’t expected Shen Jianhua to suddenly lash out, and was caught off guard by his slow reaction. Just as Shen Jianhua was about to land a blow, he was stopped by He Nan’s firm grip on his wrist.
"Uncle Shen, let’s talk this out, violence is not the answer," said Lu Siyuan.
He addressed him as Uncle Shen, but his tone was icy, his gaze imposing and powerful, it sent shivers down Shen Jianhua’s spine.
Having regained his bearings, Lu Siyuan quickly pulled Shen Mianmian behind him to shield her, glaring furiously at Shen Jianhua. He thought to himself that if Shen Jianhua dared lay a finger on Mianmian, he wouldn’t hold back his wrath. Parents like them were better off disowned.
Shen Mianmian defiantly met Shen Jianhua’s gaze, silent. She knew that if it weren’t for Big Brother He’s intervention, she could have dodged the slap herself, but she had no intention of avoiding it. Let this slap sever all ties of father and daughter in this lifetime.
In fact, He Nan had realized her intention but had no plans to let her get hit.
"What are you doing?" Zhou Lanfang mustered her courage when she saw her husband restrained by He Nan and questioned, "You want to hit someone, is that it?"
He Nan was a big shot from the city which Zhou Lanfang knew she couldn’t afford to offend. Although she was aware that she was the one who had taken Shen Mianmian away and that most of the money was likely in his possession, Zhou Lanfang dared not trouble He Nan. Instead, she focused her demand on Shen Mianmian.
Fortunately, He Nan had kept silent, appearing indifferent to other families’ matters, which had reassured her. Yet, she hadn’t expected him to eventually interfere.
Maybe he was planning to keep all the money for himself.
He Nan paid no mind to Zhou Lanfang, not even glancing in her direction. After watching Shen Jianhua for a while and making sure he would not act out again, He Nan released him.
Shen Jianhua’s heart pounded with nervousness. Considering his age, he couldn’t show weakness in front of someone younger, so he feigned calmness and said, "He Nan, this is a family matter. It doesn’t concern you, so stop meddling."
What did it matter if he was a rich man from the city? Even if the mayor himself were here, he had no right to intervene in his family business. Comforted by this thought, Shen Jianhua felt a bit more at ease.
"I don’t plan on meddling with your family matters, but hitting someone is unacceptable," clarified He Nan, his stance was clear. As long as there was no physical assault, Shen Jianhua and Shen Mianmian could talk however they wanted without his interference.
Even though she was young, she was a girl with her own opinions, and it would probably be worse if outsiders got involved.
Shen Jianhua: "..."
Disciplining a child in front of others was hardly something to be proud of, but being stopped and even threatened made Shen Jianhua feel humiliated.
"I lost my temper just now," he said with a steely face, attempting to salvage some dignity.
Bracing herself, Zhou Lanfang declared, "She’s my daughter. If we want to hit her, we’ll hit her. What’s it to you? Even if I beat her to death, that’s my rightful prerogative."
With a contemptuous spit, Lu Siyuan retorted, "Illiterate."
In the countryside, many unqualified parents often used this phrase, believing that it was no sin to beat their own children to death, arguing it was their child to do with as they pleased.
Little did they know that even if it was their own child, inflicting severe harm was unacceptable, let alone beating them to death.
"So what if I’m illiterate?" Zhou Lanfang, afraid to confront He Nan, directed her bravado at Lu Siyuan, hurling insults indirectly at Lu Siyuan, "You little bastard, ever since you mixed with that little wild seed, she’s been getting wilder and wilder. You’re not up to any good at such a young age, fooling around with a teenage girl. You’ll get your comeuppance, and won’t end well."
Everyone could tell that her words were not just aimed at Lu Siyuan but also implied something about He Nan.
"You old witch, do you think I wouldn’t dare to hit you?"
An enraged Lu Siyuan had long found Zhou Lanfang distasteful, and now he exploded with anger, charging toward her with the intention to strike, only to be held back by Shen Mianmian.
