Chapter 76: Chapter 76 Deng Lanhua
"What kind of clothes would you like to make? What fabric do you want to use? Are you making a coat or something to wear inside?" The young woman asked politely, her voice neither hurried nor slow, and it was very pleasant to listen to.
"Ma’am, I’d like to make a coat like this." Tang Yue took out her design sketch and then pointed to the wool fabric in her shop, saying: "Make it with this fabric."
"Oh?" The young woman looked at the design sketch and even without the finished garment, she felt it was particularly attractive.
Tang Yue was designing a coat, and she had specifically chosen plaid wool fabric.
"Young lady, this fabric is not cheap," the young woman kindly reminded, seeing that Tang Yue appeared quite young, and this fabric was the best one in her shop.
In the past, many people had taken a liking to this plaid fabric, but were scared off by the price.
The young woman had a gentle smile and didn’t show the slightest bit of disdain.
Tang Yue chuckled and just asked, "Ma’am, if I want my coat made according to my design, how much would it cost?"
"This..." the young woman requested, "Could you let me take a closer look at it? And measure your size again?"
"Sure," Tang Yue agreed readily, feeling even more favorable towards the young woman. She didn’t ignore Tang Yue because of her youth, nor did she give a random quote due to her age.
The young woman carefully measured Tang Yue’s size, then looked over the paper in detail. She took a pen, wrote and did some calculations, and after a while, she had a figure. She said, "If we make the coat as long as you’ve asked, it will cost at least thirty yuan. Of course, if you want to have it done, I can give you a one yuan discount."
When the young woman quoted the price, she was quite nervous and had already handed the paper back, ready for the possibility of Tang Yue finding the price too high.
If it were any other fabric, it might only cost ten yuan, or at most fifteen yuan to make, but this plaid fabric was particularly expensive. If it hadn’t been that her brother couldn’t sell it and left it at her place, she probably wouldn’t have been willing to stock such an expensive fabric.
It had been in stock since before the New Year, and although many people had asked about the fabric, not a single person had actually wanted it made into clothes.
Tang Yue quietly calculated in her heart and felt that the price quoted by the woman was very reasonable. She even offered Tang Yue a one yuan discount, which probably meant she’d only earn at most one yuan from making this coat.
"Alright, ma’am, please make me one," Tang Yue promptly agreed.
The hand of the young woman holding the design sketch paused, and she looked at Tang Yue in shock, thinking her ears had misheard. She asked, "You... you really want to have it made?"
"Yes, I do." Tang Yue nodded cheerfully. She pulled out fifteen yuan and handed it over, saying, "This is the deposit. I’ll come back to get it when the clothes are ready."
The fifteen yuan was placed in the young woman’s hand, and it took her a moment to react. Clutching the money, she was about to say something when a chubby little boy with a buzz cut stumbled out of the house.
"Mom, mom, mom," said the little boy, who didn’t speak very clearly, looking plump and adorable.
"Leilei, don’t run so fast," a tall man limped out after the boy. The man was quite tall and very conspicuous in the small tailor shop. Even though his leg was injured, his back remained exceptionally straight, and his eyes were firm and bright.
"Leilei, did you miss mommy?" The young woman lifted the child into her arms, and the child burrowed into the young woman’s embrace, puckering his little mouth to plant a kiss on her cheek. His adorable demeanor was irresistibly cute.
"This is my son, Leilei, and my husband, Qi Song," the young woman introduced. "My name is Deng Lanhua. If you don’t mind, you can call me Sister Deng."
"Sister Deng," Tang Yue readily switched to the informal address and added, "Leilei is really cute."
Holding Leilei in her arms, Deng Lanhua looked at her husband with a sense of regret in her heart. Qi Song used to earn a good income driving trucks, but unfortunately, he injured his leg in an accident and couldn’t work anymore, so the burden of providing for their family fell on Deng Lanhua.
Tang Yue liked Deng Lanhua’s family and felt they were all very good people. She thought that if Sister Deng could make the clothes well this time, they could collaborate continuously in the future.
Considering the situation of Sister Deng’s family and Brother Qi’s disability, she guessed that their life wasn’t easy. Leilei’s face was also reddened from the cold, and his clothes were patched. If she could help them even a little, she would be delighted.
"My name is Tang Yue, and I go to Wangjiang First Middle School," Tang Yue introduced herself, saying, "Your family of three is lovely. Sister Deng, is your tailor shop usually busy with making clothes?"
Tang Yue casually inquired.
"Before, it wasn’t too bad," Deng Lanhua responded while looking at Tang Yue’s design, "but now there are more ready-to-wear stores, and everyone prefers to buy ready-made clothes. So, our business has gradually declined."
"Xiao Yue, the clothes you’ve designed look really nice. I’m worried that I might not be able to make them properly," admitted Deng Lanhua. It was her first time seeing such a beautiful design. The clothes looked wonderful on paper.
How beautiful would the finished garment look?
"Sister Deng, I’ve clearly marked the measurements on the clothes and the areas to pay attention to. I believe Sister Deng will be able to do a good job," Tang Yue reassured her after having observed Deng Lanhua working diligently.
In the small shop that was neatly organized, even Deng Lanhua’s somewhat worn clothes seemed in good condition. This showed Deng Lanhua was a very careful and meticulous person.
Their family of three was warm and happy. Tang Yue believed that someone with a loving heart was sure to do a good job.
After inquiring in detail, Deng Lanhua finally said, "Xiao Yue, come pick up your clothes tomorrow afternoon. I promise to make it well."
Since it was the first time making this style, Deng Lanhua worried she wouldn’t have enough time to complete it.
"Okay, Sister Deng, no rush. I’ll come the day after tomorrow in the morning to pick it up," said Tang Yue. She would love to get the clothes tomorrow but knew that with Brother Qi’s leg problem, the child to take care of, and other tasks Deng Lanhua must handle, rushing her might mean she would have to work overnight to finish.
"Alright," Deng Lanhua warmly offered, "Xiao Yue, why don’t you come and have lunch with us? It’s nearly noon."
"No, thank you. My parents are waiting for me at home," Tang Yue declined the kind invitation.
When Tang Yue arrived home, it was just past twelve, and Tang Jun was setting the table. Seeing her come back, he quickly said, "Sis, where were you? Mom and dad sent me to look for you."
