Chapter 45: Chapter 45 I Have Evidence

Tang Yue sat upright, her posture extremely proper. In her previous life, she started wearing glasses after entering Senior High School, but this time she was determined to protect her eyes at all costs.

She wrote down answers swiftly, almost immediately after looking at each question once.

The math teacher stood behind Tang Yue, watching every problem she wrote, every problem she solved. Her handwriting was beautiful, graceful and yet genial, neat and well-organized, which made it a pleasure to behold.

Some students felt it took too long and began to doze off, getting sleepy in the sunshine.

Twenty minutes later, Tang Yue stood up and said, "Teacher, I’ve finished."

"All correct." The math teacher announced after reviewing and then passed it to other math teachers from different classes. Eventually, after several math teachers had confirmed, the test paper was indeed error-free.

The classmates were immediately in an uproar. The test paper started being passed around, and seeing the exemplary work, they couldn’t help but think of their own scribbled and hastily corrected papers which, compared to the one they were looking at, looked like chicken scratch.

Many thought their first take away from the incident was to practice their handwriting, aiming for a good penmanship.

After discussing with several teachers, Qin Hong announced to the entire grade that Tang Yue had not cheated. Meanwhile, the test paper was specifically circulated for everyone to see.

Tang Yue stepped forward and said, "Teacher Qin, about the matter of Xu Zhenzhen imitating my handwriting..."

"Enough, Tang Yue! Don’t push people too far, who imitated your handwriting?" Xu Zhenzhen glared furiously at Tang Yue. Just now, when Tang Yue was writing the paper, many boys beside her praised her.

Saying her writing posture was beautiful, saying her profile was beautiful, saying the way she concentrated on her homework was beautiful.

She thought the previous issue was over, but hearing Tang Yue bring it up again, Xu Zhenzhen flared up in anger.

"You." Tang Yue didn’t even bother to look at her, saying: "Please, teacher, take out Xu Zhenzhen’s examination paper and compare it with the cheat sheet, then you’ll know."

Xu Zhenzhen’s heart skipped a beat, and subconsciously, she wanted to stop it.

"My problem-solving process, and the one on the cheat sheet, are not the same," Tang Yue explained. If she were not fully aware of it, such a minute detail would be easy to overlook.

When she solved problems, she always did so very thoroughly, even more detailed than the correct answers in the textbook.

Xu Zhenzhen’s paper, however, followed the textbook step by step, which was somewhat different from Tang Yue’s.

"Also, the formulas in my math problems are different. My ’a’, ’s’, and ’i’ are all distinct. If you compare them carefully, you will notice the differences," Tang Yue noted.

When Xu Zhenzhen wrote these letters, she might not even have noticed herself, but she always added a little extra flourish.

Even if she tried to imitate Tang Yue’s handwriting, these small habits would surely remain.

Tang Yue guessed that Xu Zhenzhen thought math cheat sheets were easier, whereas for Chinese, she could memorize everything, and the risk of getting caught was much higher.

But actually, Xu Zhenzhen was mistaken. If it had been regarding Chinese, it would be more difficult for Tang Yue to find evidence, unless handwriting analysis was brought in.

But choosing math was different. Xu Zhenzhen’s little details were already known to Tang Yue from her previous life.

It had to be said that Xu Zhenzhen was clever but outsmarted by her own cleverness.

No, to be exact, it was like lifting a rock only to drop it on her own feet.

The teachers busily compared Xu Zhenzhen’s paper with Tang Yue’s according to what Tang Yue said, and naturally, the results were clear.

"Xu Zhenzhen." Qin Hong threw the papers and the cheat sheet in front of Xu Zhenzhen.

Xu Zhenzhen’s eyelid twitched, and she was greatly startled. Picking up the papers and cheat sheet, she noticed indeed what Tang Yue had described. Her hands trembling, she had never noticed such habits when writing the letters.

She was only focused on the text, whereas for the letters, she imitated them roughly.

"Tang Yue is not only your classmate but also from the same place as you, how could you frame her for cheating?" Qin Hong was extremely angry. To have such a negatively-minded student in her class was very upsetting and displeasing.

Previously with the stealing money issue, there was no evidence, and Qin Hong was unwilling to believe that Xu Zhenzhen was that kind of person. That matter was quietly glossed over, but this time, with conclusive evidence, Xu Zhenzhen deliberately placed her own cheat sheet in Tang Yue’s pocket. If Tang Yue hadn’t proved otherwise, this stain of cheating would have followed her forever.

Tang Yue was a promising student with excellent academic performance. If she was wrongfully accused and carried such a stain, Qin Hong, as a teacher, would feel sorry for the child.

"I didn’t." Xu Zhenzhen rebutted pitifully: "I don’t know how that cheat sheet ended up in her pocket, teacher, I didn’t look at the cheat sheet, how would I know it’s mine, and not Tang Yue’s?"

"Teacher Qin, I and Tang are good friends, even if we had a conflict due to some issues before, I would never do such a thing to hurt her."

Xu Zhenzhen always liked to play the victim, her pretense of helplessness tended to make others more inclined to believe her.

Tang Yue looked down, with evidence laid out in front, as long as the teachers believed, no matter how eloquently Xu Zhenzhen spoke, it was unlikely they would trust her. To take it a step further, Xu Zhenzhen’s reputation at Wangjiang First Middle School was now completely tarnished.

The next day, the whole school criticized Xu Zhenzhen in a public announcement. Of course, the credit also went to the Dean of Education, and additionally, the cheat sheet found in Tang Yue’s pocket had not yet been publicly displayed. Xu Zhenzhen did not proactively claim it as her own, which was indeed fortuitous.

"Are you happy now, Tang Yue?" Xu Zhenzhen cornered Tang Yue when no one was around, wishing she could beat her to vent her anger.

"The cheat sheet is yours." Tang Yue said flatly, without raising her eyes, then added: "How it ended up in my pocket, you know full well."

After speaking, Tang Yue walked past her, saying: "Xu Zhenzhen, stop playing cunning games. This time, you just lost your reputation, next time, it won’t be so simple."

As soon as Tang Yue’s voice fell, she stepped back, glancing sideways: "Regarding the last incident, and this one, you just remember the severe warning and the public criticism, what else did you do?"

Tang Yue deliberately enticed her to talk, speaking casually, her dark eyes intently gazing at Xu Zhenzhen’s face.

Xu Zhenzhen’s expression darkened, and she said, "Tang Yue, the teachers are kind-hearted, they felt sorry for me."

Xu Zhenzhen was a bit panicked inside but quickly calmed down. After all, she had seen her aunt lie without hesitation, even swearing oaths felt as natural as eating and drinking to her.

"If you wish to keep a secret, you must first refrain from doing it," Tang Yue was already certain about it in her heart, only not sure with whom Xu Zhenzhen was close.
