Chapter 283: Chapter 283: I Was a High School Classmate
"Uh..." Even Liu Cuixong, who was slow to catch on, realized that she had said something wrong. Her eyes quickly darted around as she hastily remedied, "Sis, I was mistaken. Please don’t take it to heart."
"Sis, if I may say, the other party must be very outstanding. I wonder, what’s their family background?" Liu Cuixong asked with a flattering smile, "Our Xiao Yue is the province’s top scholar. Surely the other one must be a match for our Xiao Yue, right?"
"Of course." Zhang Hualian’s expression eased somewhat. After all, it was about her brother’s future daughter-in-law. She said, "The other one works in Jing City, and their mother is a teacher."
"A teacher." Liu Cuixong immediately praised, "That’s wonderful, educating the young, shaping minds. After Xiao Yue marries over, her mother-in-law will be cultured and respectful, she won’t give Xiao Yue a hard time."
"Mhm." Zhang Hualian responded. If the Mo Family hadn’t been so respectable and Mo Siyu so outstanding, Zhang Hualian wouldn’t have agreed to betroth her daughter so soon.
In terms of excellence, Mo Siyu was the most outstanding young man she had ever seen. More importantly, he was sincere about Xiao Yue. His eyes showed love whenever he looked at Tang Yue. With a man capable of love, Xiao Yue’s married life would undoubtedly be happy.
Liu Cuixong continued talking, finally easing Zhang Hualian’s mood. She breathed a sigh of relief, worried that Zhang Hualian might hold a grudge. When taking care of Elder Mrs. Zhang, Liu Cuixong was proactively enthusiastic, calling her ’Mom’ even more intimately than Zhang Hualian, her own daughter, ever did.
Zhang Hualian noticed this and understood Liu Cuixong’s intentions, not saying much but thinking to herself that if Liu Cuixong could continue to take such good care of Elder Mrs. Zhang in the future, she herself would be relieved of worries.
Lunch was delivered by Tang Jun.
Initially, Tang Zhengde and Tang Yue were supposed to bring it over, but guests arrived at the restaurant, and it wasn’t right to turn away customers.
Tang Jun couldn’t cook, so the task of delivering the meal was given to him.
Zhang Huafeng didn’t feel reassured and went along to help with the delivery.
Tang Zhengde and daughter Tang Yue were busy in the kitchen, serving table after table of customers, and it wasn’t until after three in the afternoon that they finally cleaned up the last table’s dishes and utensils.
Tang Yue went to the hospital again to visit Elder Mrs. Zhang.
After regaining consciousness, Elder Mrs. Zhang felt staying in the hospital was too expensive and insisted on being discharged. After much persuasion, they managed to convince Elder Mrs. Zhang to stay.
Elder Mrs. Zhang stayed in the hospital for two days before continuously insisting on being discharged and moving into Tang Zhengde’s home.
The day of the engagement was drawing nearer, and preparations at home were becoming more extensive. After Tang Yue finished making the clothes for Aunt Mo and Mo Siyu, she sent them out and then started to focus on making clothes for the Tang Family.
Days went by in the blink of an eye.
That day, Tang Mingli took Wei Jiajia and Tang You’an downtown, planning to buy some baby formula and other things for Little You’an. Wei Jiajia’s breast milk was not as abundant now, so they were considering supplementing with formula.
"Mingli, with so many types of baby formula, which one should we buy?" Wei Jiajia looked to Tang Mingli for advice, standing in front of the baby formula aisle, picking and choosing without being able to decide.
"Buy the expensive one." Tang Mingli was also unsure of which kind to choose and felt that you get what you pay for, so the more expensive the formula, the better the quality.
After Wei Jiajia purchased the baby formula, Tang Mingli carried it while she pushed the stroller. She then spotted some little shoes for Little An’an and excitedly bought several pairs, along with toys for Little An’an that she bought with great joy.
Tang Mingli’s hands were already full to the brim when Wei Jiajia finally said, "Let’s not buy any more for now. We can come back and buy more next time."
Wei Jiajia examined this item and that, pushing Little An’an along as she roamed through various stores. Even though she sells clothes herself, if Wei Jiajia occasionally spots an especially cute outfit for Little An’an in another store, she would buy it nonetheless.
"Jiajia, be careful, I’m holding things and can’t help you push the stroller." Tang Mingli seriously reminded her. On the way back, his eyes were either on Wei Jiajia or on his son, afraid that mother and child might encounter some kind of mishap.
Wei Jiajia steadied her son to sit properly, then said, "Mingli, don’t worry, we’re fine. Just focus on carrying the things."
Wei Jiajia’s smile lifted her lips, revealing two sweet dimples on her cheeks, particularly beautiful.
Tang Mingli smiled and said, "Jiajia, next time you want to buy a lot of things, let the second sister-in-law look after Anan. This way, you’ll be able to shop at ease."
"You don’t even want your son." Wei Jiajia pouted, her eyes radiating with a joyous smile.
Tang Mingli grinned, "I want my son, and I want my wife too."
Wei Jiajia couldn’t help but blush, completely unprepared for Tang Mingli to say such words on the street.
"Tang Mingli?" A female voice called out.
Just as Tang Mingli was about to tease Wei Jiajia about how adorable she looked blushing, the unfamiliar yet familiar voice made him pause. He turned to see Qi Yufei not far away.
The Qi Yufei of the past was proud and beautiful, always the center of admiration at school. Her eyes, brimming with spirit, invariably drew people to follow her gaze.
But, having not seen her for three years, Qi Yufei seemed to have changed. She appeared much frailer than before; the vivacity in her eyes had been eroded by life. Once the thinning had set in, her beautiful features now appeared bony and gaunt. If not for that vaguely recognisable familiarity and her crisp voice, Tang Mingli would have barely dared to recognize her.
"What, don’t know me anymore?" Even though Qi Yufei’s face was made up, it couldn’t hide her haggardness. She lifted the corners of her mouth in a faint smile, saying, "Tang Mingli, aren’t you going to introduce us?"
Qi Yufei’s eyes rested on Wei Jiajia. In terms of appearance, she didn’t compare to herself, but Wei Jiajia’s joyous smile when she laughed was irksome to witness.
And the way Wei Jiajia spoke with Tang Mingli just now brought memories flooding back for Qi Yufei. Back when she and Tang Mingli were together, he was always indulgent with her, never refuting whatever she said.
The Tang Mingli of the past used to smile at her just like that.
"This is my wife, Wei Jiajia," Tang Mingli introduced generously. "And this is my son, almost one year old, Tang You’an."
Wei Jiajia looked toward Qi Yufei, her gaze flitting over Tang Mingli. She vaguely sensed something off between them.
"Mingli, who is she?" Wei Jiajia asked with a smile.
Tang Mingli thought for a moment, then said, "A high school classmate, Qi Yufei."
Upon hearing this, Qi Yufei immediately showed displeasure and said, "Tang Mingli, why didn’t you tell her I’m your ex-girlfriend? After all, we did have a relationship at one time, didn’t we?"
Tang Mingli’s face changed, and he quickly looked at Wei Jiajia.
