Chapter 208: Chapter 208: The Game (Second Update)

"Little Uncle, who’s coming to play with me?" Tang Jun hopped in excitedly, looking towards Tang Mingli with anticipation.

Tang Mingli, seeing Tang Jun, immediately said, "Xiao Jun, you came just at the right time. It’s your little aunt’s brother who is coming, and we’d like him to stay in the county for a while."

"How old is he?" asked Tang Jun.

"Just your age."

Wei Jiajia answered with a smile.

Tang Jun immediately said, "Then he’s the same age as Zhang Qiang too. Come on, the three of us will have even better company."

Three of them?

Tang Mingli thought he was talking about Tang Yue and was about to say that girls and boys can’t really play together when in came a reluctant Zhang Qiang.

"Xiao Qiang, you guys are back?" Zhang Hualian, seeing Zhang Qiang return, went to cook in the kitchen with peace of mind.

Wei Jiajia, knowing that Zhang Qiang was going to live with Tang Jun too, and when it was Tang Yue’s turn to manage, volunteered, "Mingli, let’s not inconvenience them."

"No worries, what’s the fuss about boys playing together?" Tang Mingli whispered back to Wei Jiajia, "Jiajia, didn’t you say that Jiajie stays at home, doesn’t like to study, and likes to play games? Zhang Qiang is just like that, why not let Tang Yue give it a try?"

"But Xiao Yue already has a lot on her plate," Wei Jiajia replied with concern.

"Don’t worry, I asked Xiao Yue especially about this." Tang Mingli reassured with a smile, thinking that if Tang Yue didn’t agree, he definitely wouldn’t bother her with it.

Tang Yue’s exact words were, "Little Uncle, if you’re not afraid your little brother-in-law will tattle on you, just send him over."

Upon reflection, Tang Mingli thought that although it might be a thankless task, he believed in Tang Yue and was sure she would surprise him in this half month.

A day later, in Wangjiang County, Tang Yue specially went to buy some wool, giving part of it to Zhang Hualian and keeping the rest to knit a sweater for Mo Siyu.

And so, the three boys of the same age, Tang Jun, Zhang Qiang, and Wei Jiajie, also met.

Tang Jun’s appearance was sunny and handsome, much like Tang Mingli.

Zhang Qiang had a gentler look.

Wei Jiajie had two large dimples, looking every bit the young master from the city, who had never seen a vegetable field in his life and probably couldn’t recognize crops in a vegetable garden either.

The three boys had totally different personalities; as they all sat together, Tang Yue suggested, "We can play a game."

"Sure!" Tang Jun was the first to echo enthusiastically.

"What game?" Zhang Qiang asked.

"What kind of game can you play in this lousy place?" Wei Jiajie said in disdain, wondering how his second sister ended up marrying into such a poor place.

"Qi." Tang Yue tossed out a book.

"What kind of game is that?" Wei Jiajie’s eyes widened. He had played all sorts of games, but playing with a book, what kind of game was that?

"Pick any text, memorize it in half an hour, go round, one sentence each. Whoever fails to recite has to do ten push-ups," Tang Yue said, her voice clear.

"I’m out," Wei Jiajie refused without a second thought.

"I..." am out too.

Before Zhang Qiang could finish his sentence, Tang Jun abruptly stood up and said, "I’ll play. If any of you don’t want to join, beat me first and then we’ll talk."

Tang Jun had a vague idea of what Tang Yue was thinking and faced her approving gaze.

"Fine, let’s fight then." Wei Jiajie, tall and sturdy, didn’t think he would lose to Tang Jun at all.

Five minutes later.

Wei Jiajie fared even worse than Zhang Qiang; he was no match for Tang Jun at all.

"It’s not fair," Wei Jiajie complained, rubbing his sore hand. "This game was your idea, so how does him winning me make any sense?"

"Who’s taller, A or C?" Tang Yue asked with a beaming smile and curving almond eyes, looking at Wei Jiajie.

"Huh?" Wei Jiajie looked towards Tang Yue, bewildered.

From the side, Tang Jun explained, "Don’t you want my sister to defeat you? So, wouldn’t it count as her winning if she’s the one posing the question?"

Wei Jiajie: "..."

Zhang Qiang had already silently picked up a book to read while Tang Jun was speaking.

"Repeat the question," Wei Jiajie said, his face turning red with effort.

He had just failed to beat Tang Jun, but he was confident he could win with Tang Yue’s question.

"In the alphabet, who’s taller, A or C?" Tang Yue restated the question more completely.

A or C, which is taller?

What kind of question is this?

Wei Jiajie’s thick eyebrows twisted, resembling a black earthworm.

Tang Jun couldn’t be bothered to answer and was sitting there, diligently reading his book. The sooner he got some reading done, the more he would remember later, and the fewer push-ups he would have to do.

"This is a question too? You’re not telling me you can’t answer it, right?" Wei Jiajie was highly skeptical.

Tang Yue let out a chuckle, her smile as if it could melt ice and snow, and said, "ABCD, A is lower than C."

Wei Jiajie muttered the answer to himself several times before he managed to vocalize it. His face darkened as he said bitterly, "That question doesn’t count. Let’s do another."

"123456789, among these nine numbers, who’s the hardest working and who’s the laziest?" Tang Yue asked again.

Wei Jiajie pondered for a long time before looking at Tang Yue with a sense of helpless defeat, "Can’t you ask some normal questions?"

"Then you tell me, who’s the hardest working and who’s the laziest?" Wei Jiajie asked curiously.

Tang Yue glanced at him and said, "2 is the hardest working, 1 is the laziest. No second without the first."

"No, no, that doesn’t work. I’ve never seen such questions before." Wei Jiajie began to slack off.

Following that, Tang Yue asked him questions from Chinese, mathematics, history, geography, physics, and chemistry, one from each subject.

Wei Jiajie was completely dumbfounded. He claimed to have never heard or seen such questions, but Tang Yue could recite exactly on which page the textbook content could be found.

Tang Jun quietly took out his book and placed it in front of Wei Jiajie.

Wei Jiajie fell silent, and after a long while, he said, "I want to play a game."

Years later, when Wei Jiajie became a model youth with a successful career, and when reporters asked him who he was grateful to, it wasn’t his parents, nor his sister and brother-in-law, but Tang Yue.

If not for Tang Yue, he feared he might still be an idle second-generation rich kid.

Since they had decided to play a game, everyone was fired up with energy.

Tang Jun thought about not letting his sister down.

Zhang Qiang only wanted to do less work than others. If he couldn’t beat them, at least make Tang Jun do a few more push-ups, preferably more than him.

Wei Jiajie, who felt as if his life had been upended by the blow, had an appearance of seeking revenge. He refused to believe he couldn’t memorize an article within half an hour.

After Tang Yue read the text once, she let them look at it while she leisurely went inside to knit a sweater.

Seeing Tang Yue’s demeanor, Wei Jiajie, afraid she wouldn’t join, hurriedly said, "This game isn’t just the three of us, right?"

"Of course not." Tang Yue smiled and said, "I’m in too, and little aunt will be the referee."

Tang Yue called Wei Jiajia over. Having witnessed the previous scene, Wei Jiajia was filled with admiration for Tang Yue. Now that she was asked to be a referee, Wei Jiajia naturally would not refuse.
