Chapter 178: Chapter 178 None Obedient (Second Update)
"Little Uncle, stop laughing already, or your teeth are going to fall out," Tang Yue teased as Tang Mingli couldn’t stop smiling ever since he left the Wei Family.
"Is that so?" Tang Mingli touched his face, only then realizing that it had almost stiffened from smiling.
Tang Zhengde cleared his throat and said, "Xiao Yue, don’t tease your little uncle. He’s gone through tough times and is about to get married. He should be happy."
His face was flushed red from the alcohol, but his gaze was clear, aside from the smell of alcohol all over him.
"I’m about to have a little aunt," Tang Yue said cheerfully, extremely satisfied with Wei Jiajia.
"Right, Dad, Little Uncle, you should come inside quickly. Mom and Granny have been waiting for you for a long time," Tang Yue hurriedly said. She happened to go out for a delivery and saw her father and Tang Mingli returning. Without asking, she already knew that the marriage proposal had gone smoothly.
"Mingli is back?" Granny Tang had been paying attention to the outside and vaguely heard the voices of Tang Mingli and Tang Zhengde, so she specifically ran out to see.
"How did it go?" Granny Tang asked with concern.
Zhang Hualian was worried that Granny Tang might fall, so she quickly stepped forward. Seeing Tang Zhengde’s face glowing red, even without him speaking, the smell of alcohol was unmistakable.
"Mom, it’s all set. At the end of next month, the wedding," Tang Zhengde said with a ’hehe’ laugh, thinking about his visit to the Wei Family today. He thought it would be great just to smoothly ask for the girl’s hand, but he never expected that they would end up fixing a date for the wedding just like that.
"So soon?" Granny Tang was delighted but suspiciously scrutinized Tang Mingli and approached him to ask quietly, "Mingli, are you really not lying to Mom? There’s nothing... is there?"
If there was nothing, why would the other party agree so readily?
It was supposed to be an engagement, but now it’s directly a wedding.
The speed of this seems a bit fast.
"Mom, I’m really not lying to you, Jiajia and I haven’t done anything yet, how could there be anything?" Tang Mingli said helplessly, scratching his head with a bitter smile on his lips. How could he give his mother the impression he was the kind of person to touch someone else before marriage?
Chairman Mao once said, dating without the intention of marriage is hooliganism.
Similarly, touching a girl before marriage is irresponsible, and Tang Mingli would never do such a thing.
"Oh, Zhengde, tell me, what is the girl like?" Granny Tang looked towards Tang Zhengde with a face full of disgust for the stench of alcohol on him; she hated the smell of alcohol on a man, it was particularly unpleasant.
"The girl is very pretty, with sweet dimples," Tang Zhengde finished speaking and added, "Of course, she isn’t quite as beautiful as our Xiao Yue, but she’s only a tiny bit less."
’Pfft’
Tang Yue, with a smile blooming like a flower, leaned against Zhang Hualian and said coquettishly, "Mom, look, Dad has learned to smooth talk. I look the most like you. Isn’t this just a clear way to compliment you for being beautiful?"
Zhang Hualian blushed a deep red from Tang Yue’s teasing.
Tang Yue resembled her by seventy percent.
Especially when Tang Zhengde spoke, the deep affection in his gaze towards Zhang Hualian made her face feel even more flushed.
"If she’s just a little less than Xiao Yue, then that’s almost the same," Granny Tang was reassured. Although Tang Yue’s surname was ’Tang’ and she wasn’t a blood member of the Tang Family, she indeed was the most standout beauty in the whole village.
Night fell, and all the employees had left the factory, leaving only family members behind.
Tang Zhengde had drunk a bit too much and fell asleep shortly after returning to the factory, sleeping all the way until dinner time.
After returning, Tang Mingli was bustling about non-stop. He went to the Mingyue Clothing Store to check the recent earnings, then found someone to paint the exterior walls of the house. He planned to whitewash the yard as well and plant some flowers and greenery to bring the little building to life.
Fortunately, he had made preparations beforehand and had his brother-in-law make cabinets and beds. Now, everything was nearly finished. Once they were installed in the house, with a little more furnishing, it would be fit for habitation.
If they were to get married and live in the new house, more things would need to be acquired. Tang Mingli wished he had eight hands so he could get all the tasks done at once.
Home—soon he and Jiajia would have one of their own.
At dinner, Tang Mingli was in high spirits, his good mood reflective of the Chinese saying: ’A happy occasion puts one in high spirits.’ The saying couldn’t be more true for him.
Tang Yue had already caught Tang Mingli secretly chuckling to himself several times.
Seeing the happy Tang Mingli, an image of Mo Siyu couldn’t help but appear in Tang Yue’s mind.
If only...
The thought had barely arisen when Tang Yue snuffed it out, reminding herself, "Tang Yue, Tang Yue, you mustn’t wander into fantasy. What you need to do now is get into a good university and then find ways to improve your family’s livelihood."
Tang Yue dared not delve deeper for fear that once she did, she might fall into the vortex of love and never recover. Even though she knew that Mo Siyu and Wu Xinming were the very polar opposites of male counterparts, she still felt the lingering fear, like someone bitten by a snake fearing a well rope for ten years.
"Gran, about the bride price, how should we handle it?" Granny Tang inquired. Previously, when speaking with Wang Aihua, she had said it all depended on her son’s abilities—if he was capable, he could offer a higher bride price. As his mother, she wouldn’t say a word against it. Of course, neither should his two older brothers hold this against her.
She had taken the same approach with each of her three sons.
Tang Mingli disclosed the amount of the bride price, worried that Granny Tang might feel it was too much, or that it was wasteful.
However, Granny Tang was very understanding and said, "After all, the girl is from the Provincial City, so it’s proper to give a bit more for the bride price."
"Mom, the other party didn’t ask for a bride price. I was the one who suggested those amounts," Tang Mingli quickly explained, fearing Granny Tang might think the bride’s family had demanded a hefty price.
"That’s fine. Since you both are happy with it, I won’t interfere anymore," Granny Tang said liberatingly.
Tang Mingli happily expressed his gratitude, "Thank you, Mom."
"Thanks are unnecessary; I can’t contribute much money to help you," Granny Tang sighed, "Not one of you three brothers listens to me."
There’s no need to mention the eldest; he married Wang Aihua and just made promises with empty words.
The second son married a good wife, but they had Tang Yue to take care of. Over the years, because of Tang Yue, the second son had just one biological son.
Now it was the youngest son’s turn. She was getting old and had no intention, nor the energy, to interfere. What she wanted now was just to see her youngest son married and with children—that would leave her with no regrets in life.
"Mom, we do listen to you. Later on, when you move to the county, you can enjoy a comfortable life and let me and the second brother take good care of you," Tang Mingli sweetly pledged as if his words were coated in honey.
