Chapter 110 Huili Shoes
Chapter 110: Chapter 110 Huili Shoes
The scorching heat of summer lingers, and the new house is being tidied up during spare moments, washed and aired, in addition to needing some essential furniture like beds, wardrobes, and a dining table as the old stove isn’t very good and needs remaking.
All these tasks need time, and Tang Yue is busy like a spinning top every day, occasionally visiting Tang Mingli’s clothing store, but spending most of her time at Deng Lanhua’s tailoring shop.
The tailoring shop, now with two apprentices, has become crowded. Even the back living room is used by Tang Yue and Deng Lanhua, with a large wooden board for cutting fabric set up next to it, Tang Yue personally making clothes.
Initially, Deng Lanhua was worried about whether Tang Yue could sketch but had never done cutting. She thought, if Tang Yue’s cutting wasn’t very good, she would have to console her.
But when Tang Yue picked up the scissors and started cutting the fabric, Deng Lanhua realized she had been overthinking. Tang Yue’s familiarity with cutting clothes surpassed even hers. Although she started off a bit awkward, soon, Tang Yue was doing quite well.
"Xiao Yue, your hands are really skillful," Deng Lanhua said, observing Tang Yue’s hands—long fingered and beautiful like tender scallions, fair and delicate, especially appealing when she was cutting the fabric.
Tang Yue lifted her head, smiling, "Sister Lan, your hands are even more skillful than mine."
As she spoke, Tang Yue’s scissors kept moving, cutting the fabric into complete pieces.
Deng Lanhua placed the tea aside, casually asking, "Xiao Yue, you must have learned tailoring from a young age, your technique looks very familiar."
Tang Yue paused her movements, her almond-shaped eyes drooping slightly, calmly replying, "I like reading. When I was young, my aunt’s house had a sewing machine, and I loved going to my aunt’s house the most."
Her words carried truth; the Tang Family, namely Wang Aihua’s family, had a sewing machine. Back then, she disliked her mother, believing that after her mother started a new family, she stopped liking her, always favoring her brother more, and on top of that, Wang Aihua would occasionally whisper in her ear about Zhang Hualian favoring Xiao Jun.
Hearing these words often, Tang Yue’s relationship with Tang Jun, and with her parents, became more distant, but ultimately, she felt that Wang Aihua cared about her. Reflecting on her past now, she realizes that her young self was blinded by jealousy, often told by others that she wasn’t Tang Zhengde’s biological daughter, a child without a father, she grew closer to Wang Aihua as she came to understand these things.
Tang Yue took a deep breath, not wanting to dwell on past events. Back then, she had been foolish. In this life, she resolved to live smarter, to look beyond appearances and focus on inner qualities.
"No wonder then," Deng Lanhua thought she had learned by watching her aunt and didn’t think further.
"Xiao Yue, last time my brother came, he asked me to thank you properly for helping clear a lot of goods," Deng Lanhua expressed her gratitude very clearly. Suddenly remembering, she hurried inside and soon came out with a pair of Huili Shoes, saying, "Xiao Yue, these are the shoes my brother brought, he brought several pairs. See if they fit you?"
Tang Yue glanced sideways; the white shoes resembled modern-day canvas shoes and looked much nicer than the plain white cloth shoes.
"Xiao Yue, I told my brother your size, they should fit." Deng Lanhua enthusiastically offered the shoes, "This is my brother’s way of showing his gratitude, you must accept these shoes."
"Sister Lan, this doesn’t feel right," Tang Yue hesitated, knowing the Huili Shoes weren’t cheap. Although she helped Deng Lanhua clear the fabrics, she and her uncle-in-law also made quite a profit, and in a mutually beneficial situation like this, gratitude wasn’t necessary.
"No way, Xiao Yue, my feet are short; if you don’t want them, I wouldn’t be able to wear them either. Wouldn’t that be a waste?" Deng Lanhua squatted down, ready to help Tang Yue put on the shoes.
Tang Yue didn’t even get a chance to refuse; she could only take the shoes. They fit her perfectly, neither too long nor too short. She used to wear plain white shoes, but now switching to Huili Shoes, even her feet looked nicer.
"They look so good." Deng Lanhua praised and said, "Xiao Yue, take these shoes home, it’s a little token from my elder brother."
"Xiao Yue, you really mustn’t refuse these shoes. My brother said that he will bring more beautiful fabric in the future." Deng Lanhua said happily, she had also made quite some money in the past six months, not only did she pay back the debt she owed her brother, but she also helped him with a lot of business.
"This..." Tang Yue looked at the shoes on her feet and took them with fondness. She said, "Sister Lan, next time your brother comes back, please let us know. We could sit down together and possibly discuss partnership matters."
"Okay." Though Deng Lanhua didn’t ask, she knew that if this partnership really worked out, it could definitely be profitable. She decided she would talk to her brother about it early.
Tang Yue changed out of the shoes, putting her white cloth shoes back on again. Soon, all the fabric was cut, and Deng Lanhua followed by Tang Yue’s side, assisting her.
With Tang Yue’s involvement, more clothes were made, yet the only drawback was having only one sewing machine, the speed obviously couldn’t be fully maximized.
Currently, Tang Mingli still relied on getting supplies from the Provincial City. A few clothes made by Tang Yue herself were displayed in the store for sale, letting everyone know that Mingyue Clothing Store had beautiful clothes.
Letting everyone think of Mingyue Clothing Store first whenever they wanted to buy beautiful clothes.
In the evening, upon hearing that Deng Lanhua’s elder brother had given Tang Yue shoes, Tang Mingli suddenly became interested in selling shoes. Women’s and children’s clothing were very profitable, and having tasted success, Tang Mingli naturally didn’t want to let go of this opportunity.
"Xiao Yue, we should invite Deng Lanhua’s brother to dinner later." Tang Mingli was already contemplating how to return the favor.
Tang Yue smiled and said, "Uncle, inviting him to dinner is a must, but, uncle, I have an idea. I wonder if it would work."
"Tell me?" Tang Mingli’s eyes immediately lit up.
"Think about it, the clothes we make ourselves look pretty good, and every design sells out, but we still have too few clothes," Tang Yue earnestly said. "Uncle, what do you think about setting up a garment factory? If we hire some people and make more clothes, wouldn’t we make more money?"
The future of the garment factory was clearly evident.
"A factory?" Tang Mingli pondered the feasibility, somewhat worriedly he asked, "Xiao Yue, you haven’t been able to go to college yet, you haven’t learned... What if, in the future, you can’t design anymore? What would we do then?"
