Chapter 423: Chapter 423: Possibly the Brother-in-Law
Jin Juan couldn’t help laughing and crying when she heard this, but it showed that Qin Xiangyang was indeed a sincere person. However, she couldn’t help but think of Qin Xiangyang’s younger sister, a young girl still in university, majoring in fashion design, known for her beautiful handwriting and skilled tailoring. She is rather calm, good-looking, and quite resembles Qin Xiangyang. Granny Lu, a kind-hearted old lady in their family, treated her as her own grandchild. Although the younger sister didn’t talk much, she was easy to get along with. Without parents-in-law, she lived her own little life which, Qin Xiangyang thought, was pretty good.
"Do you really like your sister-in-law?" Jian Zhiqing leaned against the wall while Qin Xiangnuan was sitting at a table, working on a design featuring cartoon rabbits, meant for production at an internet cafe as a batch in a production line, which could earn a large sum by the New Year.
As for Jian Zhiqing’s earlier question, yes, she indeed liked her sister-in-law.
"The sister-in-law is a good woman with great family education."
The kind of parents usually raises the kind of children they are. She firmly believed in this saying: even if inherently difficult, proper upbringing could play a crucial role. The Jins were a scholarly family; naturally, their children turned out very polite and sensible.
As for Qin Guohua’s side, Qin Xiangnuan always felt a particular way.
She and her brother were good kids because of Du Ping; otherwise, with Qin Guohua’s character, what kind of children could he have? They were all influenced by their mother’s traits, quite unlike Qin Xiangmei and Qin Pengfei.
"By the way," she remembered something about Qin Xiangmei.
"What is it?" Jian Zhiqing came over, pulled up a chair, sat down, crossed his long legs, rested his arms on the chair handles, and took a long time to look at the drawing Qin Xiangnuan made before finally setting it down.
Qin Xiangnuan looked up and blinked her shiny eyes.
"Brother Jian, there’s a school performance tomorrow."
"Oh really..." Jian Zhiqing seemed interested. "I’ll go with you tomorrow."
"Great," Qin Xiangnuan was now relieved; otherwise, she’d be a dimwit sitting and dumbly watching the shows alone. Her good friends all had parts; only she would be like a commander without troops, bound to be sitting in the cold.
She continued to draw on the paper, while Jian Zhiqing was busy with something else nearby, seemingly an unspoken understanding they had developed over the years, an inexplicable connection to others.
Early in the morning, Jian Zhiqing went out for morning exercises and bought breakfast for Qin Xiangnuan when he returned. They ate together, including Granny Lu’s lotus leaf pancakes with vegetables and two portions of porridge packed in disposable cups, Qin Xiangnuan’s own invention, selling at a high price with machines that sealed the cups. Just pierce them with a straw to drink, making it convenient to carry around. Although the machine was costly, people buying this convenient porridge were numerous, some even if not eating Granny Lu’s pancakes.
Granny Lu always said that buying that shop was truly a wise decision; no matter what they sold, it was profitable and their very own, without worrying about sudden rent hikes by the landlord.
Of course, who else could have spotted the opportunity?
Qin Xiangnuan was a person advanced in wisdom beyond her age; from childhood to adulthood, all her investments proved profitable. Following her footsteps, although not instantly making someone a millionaire, wealth would gradually accrue, depending on whether one had the courage.
After breakfast, Qin Xiangnuan was ready to head to school.
She was curious why Jian Zhiqing also wanted to go; he didn’t seem like someone who enjoyed crowds.
"Brother Jian, you’ve started to enjoy spectacles," she teased Jian Zhiqing.
"That’s not it," Jian Zhiqing straightened his clothes, "It’s more like a work obligation. They invited us, so it’s just right to go check it out," he pulled out an invitation from his pocket. He could go or not, but he decided to go this time to see what kind of show Qin Xiangnuan’s school was putting on.
It was a pity that Qin Xiangnuan had no part in it.
Qin Xiangnuan rolled her eyes; she knew this man’s motives were never pure, always guessing what he might be thinking. Women’s hearts are said to be as unfathomable as a needle in the ocean, but she felt Jian Zhiqing’s heart was like a sesame seed lost in the sea, utterly inscrutable.
As they were about to leave, Jian Zhiqing came over, carrying a backpack that seemed hers.
"What are you doing with this?" Qin Xiangnuan pointed at the bag in Jian Zhiqing’s hand, which looked quite stuffed.
"It’s nothing, just carrying it," Jian Zhiqing swung the bag over his shoulder. Qin Xiangnuan sometimes felt that fate was too kind to Jian Zhiqing. Even such an ugly bag, worn on his back, exuded a sort of decadent artistic vibe. If it were on her, who knows how much uglier it might look.
They reached the school, where many people were already making final preparations. It wasn’t Jian Zhiqing’s first visit to Jing University; sometimes he came to bring things to Qin Xiangnuan and had toured the place a few times. Though he wasn’t a student, he knew almost as much about Jing University as Qin Xiangnuan.
Being without a program, Chun Xiangnuan was just an extraordinarily ordinary student, preparing like the others to secure a good spot in the auditorium.
Jing University’s indoor auditorium was very spacious, accommodating thousands to watch performances. The facilities of this prestigious national institution were not just for show — whether the sound system, lighting, or space, it was all top-notch nationally.
"Let’s sit here," Qin Xiangnuan chose a spot in the middle on the side for convenience in moving around, such as going to the restroom without disturbing others. She sat down next to Jian Zhiqing while the auditorium lights were still on. The leaders hadn’t all arrived yet, and pleasant music was playing as students gradually filled the venue since it was an open performance without restrictions on who could attend.
"Want some water?" Jian Zhiqing leaned back and asked Qin Xiangnuan.
"Ah, I forgot to buy water!" Qin Xiangnuan was startled, then realized she needed to buy some, otherwise sitting here for a long time without water would make watching the program a miserable experience.
