Chapter 99: Chapter 99: Cocky for Such a Young Age

This feeling, it’s like a venomous snake extending its tongue beside her ear.

Aunt Wu felt goosebumps all over, a chill piercing her spine, but Tang Li stepped back, a light and breezy smile on her lips: "As people age, they tend to act more authoritative due to their seniority, but one must still know one’s place, don’t you agree?"

Even after Tang Li got into her car, Aunt Wu remained standing in place.

Tang Li glanced in the rearview mirror, meeting Old Liang’s gaze, her lips curling into a faint smile: "Aunt Wu has quite a few opinions of me."

Old Liang hurriedly said: "Don’t mind her nonsense. She’s just an ignorant old woman!"

"A bit," Tang Li nodded. "Before I left, I had a few words with Aunt Wu, but she seemed to think I was threatening her after listening."

"That old lady likes to talk nonsense," Old Liang said, trying to smooth things over. "Last time she went out to buy groceries, she got grazed by a sedan. She grabbed at the driver’s collar, accusing them of trying to murder her. If she has offended you in any way, please don’t take it to heart. I apologize to you on her behalf."

"There’s no need for apologies. Now that Aunt Wu has left the Lai Family, all you need to do is your job well."

After saying this, Tang Li fell silent.

The streetlights dimmed with the evening, their hazy glow adding a touch of warmth to the night.

The car traveled on the elevated road, and Tang Li turned her head to gaze at her reflection in the window—her fair facial features still looked the same, yet they no longer wore the demure, downcast expression from her past life.

The eyes are the most revealing of one’s age.

And she, she only looked like a nineteen-year-old girl on the outside.

Thinking of what she had done at the Lai Family’s, Tang Li momentarily zoned out. Deep down, she desperately wanted those who wronged her and her mother to pay the price. But when she was alone and quiet, she couldn’t help but wonder if a person like her would eventually become lost one day.

At these times, she would remind herself that she had been given a second chance at life precisely to seek revenge.

Since it’s for revenge, why bother caring about anything else?

Tang Li did not let Old Liang take her back to school.

When they approached the city center, she asked Old Liang to stop the car.

After sending Old Liang back to the Lai Family first, Tang Li entered a convenience store by the roadside.

At the Lai Family’s, she hadn’t really eaten her fill.

She got a cup of instant noodles and a sausage, sitting in a chair in front of the floor-to-ceiling window, giving herself a belated dinner.

She had barely taken a few bites when her attention was drawn to a Corgi outside the window.

The Corgi trotted past the convenience store with its short legs.

A red leash was tied around the dog’s neck.

Tang Li remembered that the leash for the Song Family’s pup was of the same color. She couldn’t help taking a few more glances at the Corgi outside the window. Then she noticed something odd—the Corgi seemed to have gotten separated from its owner, wandering back and forth outside the convenience store, occasionally stopping to look around.

Seeing someone trying to catch the dog, Tang Li put down her fork and walked out.

The Corgi was barking furiously at the man approaching it.

Tang Li came out of the convenience store, calling out to the Corgi: "Tiger Whip!"

The Corgi turned its head.

Then, wagging its bottom, it ran toward her.

Tang Li had only called out on a whim, not expecting it to actually be Song Jingtian’s dog.

After sniffing her scent, the Corgi bit her trouser leg and tugged her in the direction it came from, emitting urgent whines.

Realizing the Corgi wanted to lead her somewhere, Tang Li let herself be pulled by it.

Approaching a certain alley, the cold laughter of a teenage boy in the midst of voice change came from within: "Still so full of yourself at such a young age. The Finance Minister is your brother? Why not claim the President is your father? Us fellows today will teach you respect for the elderly and love for the young!"
