Chapter 240: Chapter 240: Don’t Be Afraid, I’ll Get You Out Soon
"Finished dancing?" Little Monk had already caught up.
Tang Li nodded.
Little Monk, wearing that silver headdress, was somewhat dissatisfied: "Others dance for an hour or two, look at you, not even ten minutes."
"I only know this part." Tang Li took the headdress off his head: "How about you dance this time, and I’ll be your prop?"
Little Monk grumbled: "I don’t know how to dance."
Tang Li was about to go back under the big tree when the accompaniment music suddenly reached its climax. More and more people around her were dancing, and she was surrounded by the crowd, unlike Little Monk who had already squeezed out. She couldn’t move forward or back.
The campfire behind her made a crackling sound.
Tang Li’s left eye suddenly felt uncomfortable.
Wood chips flew into her eyes from the firewood placed nearby.
She rubbed her eyes, but the more she rubbed, the less she could open them.
Someone bumped into her unexpectedly.
Standing by the bonfire, the impact from the bump was quite strong, and she was caught off guard. Just as she managed to stabilize herself, someone else bumped into her, intensifying the foreign sensation in her left eye to the point where she couldn’t open her right eye either. Through her squinted vision, she saw vague dancing figures.
No one noticed her distress, causing people to keep bumping into her.
The music was so loud that Tang Li’s attempts to speak were quickly drowned out.
She didn’t dare to squat down for fear of being trampled.
Tang Li tried hard not to fall each time she was bumped. It was only a few seconds, but she felt like it had been a long time. The increasing heat behind her reminded her of her helpless situation in a fire scene in her past life.
When she was bumped into again, her back met a warm body, and a pair of large hands stabilized her shoulders. Tang Li felt herself being pulled into a man’s embrace.
Almost subconsciously, she wanted to avoid the other’s touch.
However, she then heard Song Baiyan’s familiar, soothing voice by her ear: "Don’t be afraid."
Tang Li instantly relaxed.
Like a floating duckweed finally finding the haven it could rely on, replacing her tension was the sense of security she craved.
Turned around, her forehead unintentionally rested against the man’s shoulder.
Song Baiyan seemed to sense the change in her body as well, from the initial resistance to eventually leaning in. The hand he had on her waist tightened slightly, bringing her closer into the crook of his arm.
The sounds of singing and dancing still filled her ears.
But there was no longer a bonfire behind her.
She struggled to open her eyes, only managing to see the blurred outline of the man’s Adam’s apple.
Song Baiyan bore a scent like that of tobacco after being exposed to the sun. His breath made her feel grounded, just like that afternoon at the high-speed train station when she held him and smelled his scent—except this time, there was also a hint of the tipsy aroma of malt. As his arm wrapped around her slender shoulders, Tang Li couldn’t help but want to get closer.
As Song Baiyan spoke, his Adam’s apple moved slightly: "I’ll take you out of here soon."
At that moment, Tang Li felt a bit of sadness in her heart.
Brought out of the crowd and informed that something had gotten into her left eye, Song Baiyan let go of her.
Then, his somewhat rough hand touched her left brow bone, and the calloused thumb propped open her upper eyelid. Tang Li didn’t dare to move.
After removing the debris, Song Baiyan released her eyelid: "How does it feel now?"
Tang Li blinked—it was already better.
Next, she lifted her gaze towards Song Baiyan.
Song Baiyan saw the slightly childish expression on her face, as if he had just performed a magic trick, and slowly started to smile, the warm undertone in his smile inviting curiosity: "Got dumbstruck by all the people around?"
After a while, Tang Li suddenly spoke up: "You’ve been drinking."
