Rebirth: I Am Not the Movie Queen This Time
Chapter 266: Leaving So Soon?

Chapter 266: Chapter 266: Leaving So Soon?

Seeing them come in, President Damel apologized with a smile, "Sorry, I’m getting old and a bit unwell; I can’t stand up to greet the distinguished guests."

Lao Tian smiled humbly yet confidently, "It’s quite late for a visit, we’ve disturbed your rest. It’s been a while, how have you been? Our country cares greatly about you."

Hearing Lao Tian’s words, a relieved smile appeared on President Damel’s face.

After exchanging some pleasantries, Lao Tian got to the point, "Mr. Damel, as the saying goes, no one visits a temple without a cause. I suppose you know that this morning the Seal Team from M country seized one of our ships. We hope you could mediate in this matter; that’s why we rush here today."

President Damel’s smile faded, his expression turning serious, aware of why these people were here, he regretfully couldn’t do much.

After all, K country was a small nation, devoid of leverage against M country, which wouldn’t otherwise allow its ships to be seized on their own territory so arbitrarily.

He slowly said, "I’ve been retired for a few years now. I no longer have say in external affairs, and I’m afraid you have made a wasted trip."

Lao Tian glanced at Wan Chu’er, then smiled, "I remember years ago, when you visited our country as the President, you were quite active for the rejuvenation of your nation."

President Damel was stirred by Lao Tian’s words, recalling his visit to the ancient East, seeking external support to revitalize his country, nearly costing him his life due to collusion between reactionary forces and foreign capital. Fortunately, a brave soldier from Huaxia saved him.

President Damel sighed, "Yes, the soldiers from your country are very courageous. I’m grateful to the soldier who saved my life, sadly he refused any payment or reward from me. If I could see him again, I would still like to thank him."

Lao Tian said, "That soldier sacrificed himself ten years ago, but his daughter came to see you today."

President Damel first looked confused, then joyfully turned his attention to Wan Chu’er.

"Oh, is it this beautiful young lady? Are you Wan’s daughter?"

It was her turn to step forward. Wan Chu’er straightened herself, wearing a gentle smile and standing gracefully.

"Hello Mr. Damel, my name is Wan Chu’er. I’m delighted to meet you, to see the man my father once saved."

Unable to resist, President Damel stood up and looked at Wan Chu’er carefully, then excitedly said, "You do resemble him. I also have a photo of you when you were little."

Then, he told his butler, "Hurry, get my photo album."

Wan Chu’er was baffled, wondering how her childhood photo ended up with President Damel.

Soon, a photo album was brought over, and President Damel showed Wan Chu’er and Lao Tian the photo.

Indeed, there was a small photo of Wan Chu’er with her hair in pigtails, holding a big apple and smiling brightly, probably taken when she was around two or three years old.

President Damel smiled and said, "This was given to me by your father. Back then, he told me he had a beautiful and lovely daughter, and couldn’t join me here. He had to protect his country and create a peaceful environment for his daughter to grow up in."

These words came unexpectedly, and Wan Chu’er was startled to hear words her father had once said, in a foreign land, after so many years. She choked up for a moment.

Seeing Wan Chu’er’s eyes welling up with tears, President Damel couldn’t help but say, "Oh, my poor child, come here."

He gestured kindly, and Wan Chu’er obediently walked over and sat beside him.

"Thank you for telling me the words my father once said. He sacrificed himself when I was ten. I miss him dearly."

President Damel couldn’t help but pat her shoulder, "Poor child, your father would be happy knowing that you have grown up well, even from heaven."

Wan Chu’er nodded, pulling out three photographs from her bag.

"My father may have sacrificed himself, but I know he was a hero, and I always carry his photos with me."

...

Lao Tian watched Wan Chu’er communicate intimately with President Damel in fluent English, and he sighed with relief in his heart, feeling fortunate that Wan Chu’er was there, and that her English was quite good.

Moreover, the most important thing was that Wan Chu’er was not rigid; she knew how to adapt to the situation and find a breakthrough.

This is a talented person. If possible, he must try to get Wan Chu’er to come over and work in K as a foreign representative.

In the end, President Damel said, "I once promised Wan that I would fulfill a request for him. Since Wan’s daughter is also here today, it is time for me to honor that promise."

The three people including Lao Tian present felt a surge of joy.

"However, as you know, K is too small, and openly confronting M is like throwing eggs against rocks, completely futile. I will have someone protest to M to see if we can grab some leverage, and if that doesn’t work, I’ll have K’s Military Department covertly assist you, creating some conveniences for you. As for the final outcome, that’s up to you."

Lao Tian was overjoyed; the outcome was beyond his expectations. Originally, he thought he would return empty-handed.

If they could get covert assistance from the Military Department, it would be much more convenient.

"Thank you, Mr. Damel. I will convey your support to our national leaders. We will not forget your assistance."

President Damel waved his hand and said, "No, this is what I owe Wan."

Wan Chu’er sincerely said, "Thank you. If my dad knew, he would be very happy too."

President Damel was very kind to Wan Chu’er. He said, "You are a good girl, and you are welcome to visit me here often."

Then he turned to Lao Tian and said, "I know you don’t have much time, so I won’t take more of it. Go about your business. I will have my butler keep in touch with you and follow your orders at any time."

President Damel gave a few instructions to his butler, who then led them out.

After leaving President Damel’s estate, Lao Tian drove in silence quickly to the hotel.

"Comrade Little Wan, you did a great job today. Thank you. Go up to the hotel and rest. We will handle the remaining matters. For safety, please stay with Comrade Ma Yanmei 24 hours a day."

Wan Chu’er nodded in agreement and went up to the second floor alone.

Lao Tian and Li Zheng quickly drove away from the hotel, as they still needed to make a series of arrangements for the upcoming tough battles.

When she reached her room, before she could raise her hand to knock, the door opened, and Ma Yanmei came out from inside.

"I heard you did a great job."

Wan Chu’er smiled and didn’t commit to a response.

Ma Yanmei continued, "Your mission is accomplished. Rest early. There’s a flight back home tomorrow night at ten. We will leave here tomorrow night; it’s best to stay in the hotel and not go out during this time."

So soon?!

Leaving so soon?

Her role was really just to meet the former President Damel!

Wan Chu’er was momentarily taken aback. She was still thinking about how to help Jiang Kechu. If they just left like this, how could she help?

She tentatively asked, "Must I follow the arrangements?"

"Mm," Ma Yanmei nodded affirmatively.

Wan Chu’er felt somewhat deflated, but she quickly said, "I need a computer with internet access, otherwise staying in the hotel for so long, I’ll go crazy."
