Chapter 204: Meeting
Chapter 204: Chapter 204: Meeting
Wan Chu’er returned home and tightly closed the door, then slumped to the ground.
She repeatedly thought about what had just happened and her issues with Zheng Yun.
Was the incident her fault, Zheng Yun’s, or just a misunderstanding?
After thinking for a while, she felt that if given another chance, she would still do the same and fiercely get back at Zheng Yun.
She was someone without any significant background, but her pride wouldn’t allow her to tolerate indignities, even if it resulted in mutual destruction.
Wan Chu’er stood up, entered the bedroom, and took out a photo of Wan Shiguo and Bai Zhixi from under her pillow, caressed it for a while, and softly said:
"Dad, Mom, I will work harder in the future, improve my abilities, and become stronger. You just wait and be proud of me."
Like an indestructible Xiaoqiang, Wan Chu’er revitalized her spirits.
She took out her phone and sent a text to Jiang Kechu: "Uncle Jiang, I miss you."
She thought it would be a long while before Jiang Kechu would reply to her text, but just as she put down the phone, not even a second passed before she heard the sound of an incoming message.
She picked it up and read, "Good girl, I will be back tomorrow. Just wait a bit longer."
Looking at the message, Wan Chu’er couldn’t help but curve her lips into a smile, and she replied with an "Okay."
Now, she had completely recovered, with no trace of the scare of almost being taken away by the police.
"Knock knock knock..."
There was a knocking at the door.
Upon opening it, she saw the polite Yan Hui,
"Wan, I apologize once again for what just happened. I will handle it promptly at school, restore your reputation, and I can compensate for your losses."
It seemed like he had thought of everything, the sincerity was substantial.
Wan Chu’er said, "I won’t thank you, as this incident was an unwarranted disaster for me."
Yan Hui smiled and nodded.
"Mr. Yan, although the incident originated from you, it was Zheng Yun who tarnished my reputation. I hope she can write me an apology letter, then submit it to the school."
Wan Chu’er still harbored intentions to deal with Zheng Yun. Zheng Yun shouldn’t be able to just walk away scot-free after causing harm; a lesson must be taught. Firing Zheng Yun was Yan Hui’s responsibility, making her write an apology letter was hers.
Yan Hui paused for a moment, then said gently, "Okay, I will have her write the apology letter."
Hearing Yan Hui agree so readily made Wan Chu’er feel a bit embarrassed; she was someone who was tough on the outside but soft on the inside.
She thought for a moment and then said, "Mr. Yan, you know about Zheng Yun’s background, right? I heard she is the daughter of a nanny who works for a high-ranking official. She’s quite bold."
Yan Hui gently smiled and said, "I know. If there’s nothing else, I’ll take my leave now."
"Alright, take care, Mr. Yan." Seeing that he didn’t care much, Wan Chu’er tactfully said goodbye.
Li Shan had just called to say that Old Sir Zhong wanted him to return to the old house to discuss Zheng Yun’s matter.
He guessed that the phone call was made in front of Old Sir Zhong and Zheng Yun, so Li Shan had reservations and did not share much other information.
Since the last time he saw Old Sir Zhong was two years ago, Old Sir Zhong has become even less inclined to meet people, and even he found it hard to see Old Sir Zhong.
Because of Aunt Zheng, Zheng Yun could easily meet Old Sir Zhong.
He didn’t want Old Sir Zhong to be bothered by Zheng Yun’s presence, which is why he had often tolerated Zheng Yun in the past, but that did not mean Zheng Yun could do whatever she wanted.
Li Shan and he were both adopted from the orphanage by Old Sir Zhong; he studied hard, went abroad to study, came back to start a business and establish a company, whereas Li Shan joined the army, served for a few years, and then retired to stay by Old Sir Zhong’s side.
Normally, to know about Old Sir Zhong’s condition, he could only get snippets through Li Shan.
He had heard from Li Shan that Old Sir Zhong had met Wan Chu’er once before, and he knew that Old Sir Zhong showed some of his former spirit when facing Wan Chu’er.
First, he wanted to meet Wan Chu’er personally to see what kind of person she is.
Second, he was worried that Wan Chu’er was brought by someone with a hidden agenda, because given Old Sir Zhong’s former capabilities and position, many people wanted to gain advantages from him. Although Old Sir Zhong had retired, he still had deep connections and substantial influence.
Therefore, he immediately had Wan Chu’er investigated thoroughly and realized something when he found out she came from Wutong in S province.
Long ago, he heard from Old Sir Zhong’s old friend, General Wu, that Old Sir Zhong had left some regrets in Wutong County. Despite his efforts to investigate, he didn’t know what exactly happened in Wutong County, and even General Wu didn’t know; Old Sir Zhong also kept silent on this matter.
Thus, when he saw ’Wutong’ in Wan Chu’er’s profile, he guessed that Old Sir Zhong might have taken a liking to Wan Chu’er because of this.
Later, when he learned that Bai Qiyan was negotiating with an underground film company, he arranged a meeting, intending to understand Wan Chu’er through Bai Qiyan, but unexpectedly Bai Qiyan brought Wan Chu’er along.
After meeting Wan Chu’er twice, he knew he needn’t worry about her; she was a girl as clear as the wind and bright as the moon, honest and straightforward.
He even thought about arranging a few more meetings between Wan Chu’er and Old Sir Zhong.
However, he did not expect that these two meetings would bring trouble to Wan Chu’er, Zheng Yun had overstepped!
After driving to the old house, Yan Hui didn’t rush in; he looked at the blue-gray courtyard walls, feeling a wave of emotions.
This place had given him a chance at life; here he and Li Shan had spent several joyous years, although Old Sir Zhong didn’t spend much time with them.
Deeply inhaling, he took steady steps inside.
In the living room, Old Sir Zhong was lying in a wicker chair, eyes closed, his face expressionless, yet radiating a completely disinterested air which made Yan Hui feel somewhat sad.
In the corner sat Aunt Zheng wiping her tears and a stubborn-looking Zheng Yun—Zheng Yun was indeed clever.
She knew what kind of temperament Old Sir Zhong liked, and never showed any sign of crying in front of him, always maintaining a stubborn and strong demeanor.
Li Shan was in another corner of the room; seeing Yan Hui, they exchanged glances.
Yan Hui steadied his mind and stood respectfully in front of Old Sir Zhong, saying gently, "Grandpa Zhong, I’m back."
Hearing Yan Hui’s voice, Aunt Zheng and Zheng Yun looked over, but Yan Hui acted as if he didn’t see them.
Old Sir Zhong slowly opened his eyes, squinting at Yan Hui, and nodded, saying, "Zheng Yun said you dismissed her in front of the entire company for an outsider; tell me what happened."
A hint of a smile appeared in Yan Hui’s eyes; although Old Sir Zhong had called him back because of Zheng Yun’s issue, he didn’t believe Zheng Yun’s words but wanted to hear his side.
He thought Old Sir Zhong likely summoned him back because Aunt Zheng had been pestering him.
Thinking this, Yan Hui felt that Aunt Zheng wasn’t completely useless as she at least got him a meeting with Old Sir Zhong.
