Rebirth: He Decides to Lie Flat -
Chapter 348 - 348 345 Pregnant
Chapter 348: Chapter 345: Pregnant Chapter 348: Chapter 345: Pregnant Luo Xiao and her parents, grandparents, and a host of relatives arrived in Jade City the afternoon before yesterday, staying in the hotel that Yu Heng had previously booked.
On the afternoon of October 1, teachers and professors from Beijing University began to arrive one after another. Luo Xiao waited in the lobby, chatting happily with scholars who were clearly high intellectuals at first glance.
It wasn’t apparent back in Kang City, but once they were out and about, Luo Yu and her cousins realized how different Luo Xiao really was from them.
This difference might include her high educational achievements, her good marriage, and even more so her manner of speaking and every move, as well as her attitude towards them, which hadn’t changed from before.
This let Luo Yu breathe a sigh of relief, but at the same time, his heart was sour, and it didn’t feel good.
Besides her own parents, Luo Xiao didn’t care what the other members of the Luo Family were thinking or what their attitude was.
She was finally able to get married. She was so happy she didn’t have time to bother about what others thought.
Most importantly, Luo Xiao tenderly placed her hand on her belly, smiling with happiness.
Her pregnancy had nothing to do with Xiaosi’s suggestion. It was just because they had already registered their marriage, so they hadn’t used contraception. Fortunately, she was in good health and conceived quickly, still not yet two months in.
“Xiaoxiao, eat something before you start putting on makeup,”
Since it was still early and the hotel breakfast hadn’t started serving, the eggs and steamed buns were specially bought by Luo Xiao’s mother from outside.
Pregnant women should not go hungry, as hunger can lead to nausea.
It wasn’t that they were afraid people would find out, but the worry was that throwing up would be uncomfortable, and the wedding rituals of the Yu Family were said to be quite complex, taking all morning. How could a pregnant woman endure that?
“Mom, don’t worry, Yu Heng knows what he’s doing,”
Because she got up too early, Luo Xiao looked at the steamed buns in the box and didn’t have much appetite, barely managing to eat an egg before she couldn’t stomach any more.
Luo’s mother didn’t force her, cleaned up, put everything aside, and looked at her daughter to ask, “Tell me the truth, was Yu Heng really happy when he heard you were pregnant?”
Previously, Yu Heng had been somewhat averse to marriage and had said he did not want children, but now these two things had converged, and she was very worried about what kind of attitude this son-in-law would have towards her daughter.
Would he insist Luo Xiao terminate the pregnancy?
“Mom, you’re overthinking it. Yu Heng didn’t say that he doesn’t want children,”
Luo Xiao explained to her, “He was just not confident about managing a marriage. But now, he has changed his mind. He told me he really wants a daughter.”
Luo Xiao wasn’t lying about this; Yu Heng was actually very happy when he found out she was pregnant. Not having a child was one thing, but once there was one on the way, he was very much looking forward to it.
Seeing him talk like this, Luo’s mother felt somewhat reassured, smiling as she said, “You can’t entirely trust what men say. They say they want a daughter just to comfort you, but in reality, they might actually prefer a son.”
“Like my dad?”
It was an old topic. Before she was born, her dad always said he preferred a daughter, wanting a little cotton-padded jacket. But when she was born and he found out she was indeed a girl, the disappointment on his face was visibly clear.
That had bothered Luo’s mother for a lifetime.
In the past, Luo Xiao didn’t understand and always told her mother she was being petty, holding on to such a trivial thing for a lifetime.
But now that it was her turn, she thought if she really did give birth to a daughter and Yu Heng was also disappointed like her father had been, she’d see if she would ever bother with him again!
The license was already obtained; she wasn’t afraid of him now.
At 8:18 a.m., a lion dance troupe arrived at the hotel entrance, with resounding gongs and drums and the loud crackling of firecrackers. The festive and lively scene made it clear that a celebration was taking place.
Yu Heng, followed by his brothers and groomsmen, got out of the car, their remarkable appearances and broad shoulders and long legs immediately causing a commotion among the tourists watching the lively scene.
“Oh my, whose sons are these? How can someone give birth to such fine young men?”
“Indeed, we all have the same nose and two eyes, but how come they look so perfect?”
“Besides the one in the front who’s the groom, go ask if any of the others are taken?”
“And if they’re not, you dare to go after them, huh?”
“Why wouldn’t I dare?”
A few girls standing nearby looked at the two men who’d spoken, their faces full of fury, as if they wanted to tear them apart.
Seeing this, the two men quickly slipped away through the crowd.
Today, Mu Jiawen wore a pink gauze blouse with a gold M-shaped skirt that reached her ankles, silver kitten heels, her black hair loosely gathered at the back of her head with a ring of braids around it, ending just behind her right ear.
She looked lively yet dignified, classy yet atmospheric.
Mu Chenyan was greeting guests at the main entrance while Mu Jiawen stood behind her, acting as a backdrop and occasionally sneaking something into her mouth, pretending to bend down to adjust her skirt while swiftly chewing and swallowing.
When Chenyan had a moment, she glanced back at Jiawen and felt the M-shaped skirt she picked out for her was quite fitting; its large pockets could hold a lot of snacks without looking too obvious.
“When your sister-in-law arrives, remember to slip her some food. She can’t go hungry now,” Chenyan said, taking another look at the time before reminding Jiawen once more. After a pause, she added, “You haven’t eaten all the snacks, have you?”
Jiawen reached into the large pockets of her skirt and pulled out a handful of chocolates and dried tofu sticks, with a complete assortment of both sweet and salty treats.
Yu Zekun standing beside her caught a glimpse of this scene out of the corner of his eye and couldn’t stop a twitch from forming at the corner of his mouth.
But he didn’t dare say anything.
At 10:18 AM, the sound of bugles and suonas signalled the return of the wedding procession.
A long line of Mercedes cars stopped in front of the old residence. Jiang Yan, taking on the role of a groomsman today, felt a gaze directed at him the moment he stepped out of the car. He turned his head and, across the crowd, shared a smile with the onlooker.
Before the bride could disembark, there were still some procedures to follow, so immediately after the groom got out, the bridal party hurriedly got back into the wedding car to accompany the bride.
Taking advantage of the moment, Jiawen slipped into the co-driver’s seat and, before Luo Xiao’s sisters realized what was happening, handed her a bunch of snacks, “Sister-in-law, have something to tide you over. There’s still a while until you can get off and complete the formalities.”
After speaking, she hoppped out of the car just as quickly.
Hungry after only having consumed an egg since morning and nothing else amidst the hustle, Luo Xiao eagerly opened a piece of chocolate and popped it in her mouth. Her cousin sitting to her left finally snapped out of her admiration for Jiawen’s delicate face upon hearing the crinkling noise, turned to Luo Xiao, and asked, “Was that beautiful girl just now your younger sister-in-law?”
With her mouth full, Luo Xiao gave a muffled murmur of agreement.
Meanwhile, the cousin sitting to her right couldn’t help feeling envious. It was bad enough that Luo Xiao had landed a man with good family background, but now even her younger sister-in-law was so nice to her?
In comparison, her own boyfriend’s sister always looked at her as if she was a thief, wouldn’t let her sit next to her brother at the movies, and always had to ask if her new clothes or bags were bought by her brother.
Why was fate so unfair, bestowing such different lives on different people?
