Rebirth: He Decides to Lie Flat
Chapter 341 - 341 338 Wei Yue

Chapter 341: Chapter 338 Wei Yue Chapter 341: Chapter 338 Wei Yue “…Wei Yue? No, I haven’t seen him… I really wasn’t with him. Why would I bring him with me to visit relatives back home?… Can’t find someone? Then keep looking…”

After hanging up the phone, Lishen turned to the person next to him and asked, “So you’re really not planning on going back?”

Wei Yue was looking at the scenery flashing by outside the window. It was a foreign place but it didn’t feel unfamiliar to him, which was indeed quite strange.

He wanted to stay.

Wei Yue withdrew his gaze from the window and listened to the incessant crunching noise that hadn’t stopped since they got in the car. He wondered how this girl could eat so much; it was making him hungry too.

Wei Yue stretched out a hand towards the front passenger seat, “Give me some.”

The crunching stopped, and the sound of rummaging through a plastic bag followed. Then an apple was stuffed into Wei Yue’s hand.

He, imitating Xiaosi, bit into the skin first, crunch, crunch, crunch, making three perfectly even circles before stopping. Lishen, watching from the side, twitched at the sight, thinking they had to be family; he’d never believe otherwise.

After taking a bite of the apple, Wei Yue remembered to respond to Lishen, “I’m not going back. The contract will be up soon and I didn’t renew it. If I formally asked to resign, they would never let me go.”

“But the laboratory is funded by the Wei Family.”

“That’s exactly why I don’t want to go back.”

Considering how the Wei Family treated Wei Yue, Lishen sighed helplessly, then frowned and said, “What am I supposed to do if you leave? I joined that lab because of you. Without you, I really don’t want to deal with them.”

The crucial point was that Lishen’s contract wasn’t up yet.

Then, Yu Ci, who had been quiet all this time, spoke to Wei Yue, “Do you want to join my team?”

Yu Ci’s overseas project was nearing its end, and he planned to bring his team back to Beijing once it was finished.

As a member of the Yu Family, Wei Yue had been nurtured by his mother, skipping grades all the way to university, and had joined the Wei Family-funded laboratory after earning his PhD at the age of twenty. He was not lacking in skills and experience compared to Yu Ci.

Wei Yue didn’t directly answer his question, but instead counter-asked, “What kind of person is your second uncle?”

It had not been long since he learned the truth, and his understanding of Yu Zexiao, his biological father, was limited to bits and pieces from his mother. The second son of the Jade City Yu Family, he was handsome, a university classmate and friend of his mother’s. After they each got married and lived in different countries, they had lost contact.

Thus, until now, Yu Zexiao had no idea he had a son in this world.

Hearing Wei Yue’s question, the crunching noise from the front passenger seat paused, and just then a ringtone sounded in the car.

Mu Jiawen put the chips back in the bag, wiped her hands with a napkin, took out her phone, and was momentarily stunned by the caller ID before answering and putting it on speaker.

Almost instantly upon answering, a cheerful voice bounced out of the phone, “Xiaosi, how much longer until you arrive? Your second uncle found a great hot spring spot, and he’ll take you there once you’re here.”

A brief silence fell in the sealed car. Mu Jiawen turned her head to glance back, coughed lightly, and said, “Second Uncle, you might not have time once I get there.”

An unexpected eldest son required some time to digest, right?

“Hey, I’m not helping your dad. It’s his son getting married, not mine. I’m so free right now I’m practically growing fur. Hurry up, and once you’re here, your second uncle will take you around Jade City. There’s a farm where you can fish and cook your catch, and if we can’t make it today, we’ll go the day after tomorrow.”

At the words “my son,” Wei Yue’s body visibly tensed. He lowered his eyes, concealing the turbulence within.

At his age, he surely wouldn’t have much longing for fatherly affection. His desire to know his biological father was merely to avoid being branded with “ill-born.”

On top of that, from what his mother had told him, Yu Zexiao was a very naive man; the things that happened in the past were not his fault, and he might not even know what had happened in the end.

I wonder what happened?

Heh…

His mom is really naive, as an adult, wouldn’t he know if something happened?

Anyway, he definitely didn’t believe it.

Mu Jiawen didn’t say much before hanging up the phone, to which Yu Ci casually answered Wei Yue’s earlier question, “You’ll know when you see him. My second uncle is actually a very simple man. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have been fooled by that woman for so many years.”

Mu Jiawen had summed him up in three words earlier, “Brainless!”

Yu Ci: …

Well, can’t say that’s wrong.

Three hours later, Jiang Yan’s Audi drove into Jade City. Pointing at the road ahead, Mu Jiawen instructed, “Drive to the end and turn right. There’s a restaurant that serves Jade City’s special cuisine. Let’s go there for lunch, I’m starving…”

Lishen looked at her with an expression that said it all, “Sister, if I remember correctly, you’ve been eating non-stop the whole way, haven’t you?”

And she’s still starving?

Before Mu Jiawen could respond, Yu Ci complained, “It’s all snacks, how filling can they be?”

After saying that, she added, “What sister? She’s my sister, don’t call her that randomly.”

Lishen was speechless. It’s just a nickname; was there a need to be so serious about it?

The group had lunch and soon entered the ancient tower of Jade City, driving straight to the old Yu Family mansion where they stopped.

Uncle Meng, who was in charge of managing the old mansion, stood at the entrance directing people to hang red lanterns on the quaint and tall porch. As he turned and saw Mu Jiawen step out of the car, he greeted her with a smile, “Fourth Miss.”

“Grandpa Meng.”

Last year, when the family tree was updated to recognize ancestors and clan members, Mu Jiawen’s name was still the one given to her by her grandmother when she was born, Yu Luo.

So here, everyone thought that was still her name.

Uncle Meng was especially fond of the little miss who bore a strong resemblance to the old lady, and was about to tell her that her room had been tidied and ready, in case she was tired and wanted to rest. However, before he could say it, his gaze landed on Wei Yue, who just got out of the car, and he was immediately taken aback.

“Is this…?”

Yu Zexiao was an expert at enjoying life, and quite narcissistic. Even at his age in his forties, his style of dress was trendier than young men in their twenties, and his face didn’t show his age, not a wrinkle in sight. If he stood next to Wei Yue, it’s likely some people would think they were twins.

Uncle Meng sensed a certain possibility, filled with both emotion and excitement.

After his divorce, Yu Zexiao’s life was all about play and having fun. Women and marriage seemed like burdens to him, and he didn’t give them much thought. Uncle Meng thought he might end up alone for the rest of his life.

Who would have thought that at this moment, fate would bring such a grown son to him!

Since he had returned to Jade City with them, it meant this child was probably considering recognizing his ancestors and returning to the clan.

He happily led the group inside, all the while introducing, “This is the front hall, the second young master is in the back yard entertaining the members of the Yu Family’s side branches. He has his own separate courtyard with a few empty rooms…”

Because of the upcoming celebration, there were many people in the old mansion. As they walked along, many greeted Uncle Meng, and they were not too curious about Wei Yue, because Mu Jiawen and Yu Ci didn’t come back often, and some of them were even seeing these siblings for the first time.
