Chapter 337 - 337 334 Trouble
Chapter 337: Chapter 334 Trouble Chapter 337: Chapter 334 Trouble “What’s going on?”
Having received the message, Jiang Yan came down from the second floor and was immediately approached by a clerk, who briefly explained the situation to him.
Normally, for such a minor issue, it would suffice to exchange for another twenty for the customer, but Qi Lihong insisted that the bill she had given was intact and refused to exchange it. The other party was straightforward, not willing to discuss it any further, and directly asked for the store manager.
“How can such a large computer store employ such an irresponsible cashier? You’re the store manager, right? I want to file a complaint against her!”
Jiang Yan glanced at Si Tian and then turned his attention to the new-looking twenty-yuan bill with a missing corner, which he didn’t scrutinize too much, instead turning his head to instruct Qi Lihong, “Open the surveillance.”
The cashier’s desk had a computer on it, which Qi Lihong used for receiving cash and accounting, and most customers who entered the store thought that was its sole purpose, nothing special.
Only Qi Lihong and Jiang Yan knew that a micro camera was installed at an angle on the computer, with a sticker on top, making it almost undetectable. No, even if one looked closely, one might not notice it.
And this camera was aimed directly at the cashier’s desk surface, clearly capturing all transactions of receiving and giving out money.
Yet Si Tian and the customers in the store thought that the surveillance Jiang Yan asked to open was from the cameras installed on the ceiling; Si Tian was full of confidence, not panicked at all.
Qi Lihong sat in front of the computer, skillfully pulled up the surveillance footage, hit the rewind button to find the section of the transaction, then paused it. The screen froze on her placing the intact twenty-yuan note on the table, clearly showing all four corners present.
Jiang Yan walked over, turned the computer to face Si Tian and all the customers in the store, and said calmly, “Student, this is the money I found for you just now, right? Do you need me to play the whole process for you?”
Si Tian’s eyes widened, gaping at the screen in disbelief. How… how could this be?
She looked up sharply at the overhead surveillance camera; she had clearly avoided it, so how was it caught on tape?
“Don’t look, it wasn’t captured by the one above.”
Jiang Yan turned the computer back, stood straight, and said to Qi Lihong, “Refund her the money; we aren’t selling the computer anymore.”
Si Tian snapped back angrily, “Why won’t you sell it to me?”
“Because you came here just to make trouble, not to sincerely buy a computer. You can tamper with such a small transaction; who’s to say you won’t cause problems after taking the computer home? Then, if you slander our quality, wouldn’t we be unable to clear our name?”
“You… I did no such thing!”
Facing Jiang Yan and everyone else’s strange looks, Si Tian’s face flushed and paled alternately, feeling extremely embarrassed.
“You say you didn’t, but your actions have already proved that you did. Count the money, see if it’s the amount you gave.”
Si Tian snatched the stack of hundred-yuan bills that Qi Lihong had placed on the table and turned to leave.
Behind her, Jiang Yan said leisurely, “If you don’t count it now, and later claim we gave one less, we won’t acknowledge it.”
Si Tian stopped in her tracks, grinding her teeth as she continued to stride out. But just as she reached the entrance, she bumped into Liu Wenhui who was about to come in.
“Brother Hu…”
Si Tian called out in a plaintive voice and then threw herself into Liu Wenhui’s arms, sobbing loudly.
The customers still in the store looking at the computers exchanged glances, and some shifted their gaze between Jiang Yan, Qi Lihong, Si Tian, and Liu Wenhui, waiting to see the drama unfold.
Seeing this scene, the store clerks were astounded; Liu Wenhui came every day to pick up Qi Lihong, and they were no strangers to each other. Was this girl involved with Liu Wenhui…two-timing?
A few clerks looked at Qi Lihong with concern.
Jiang Yan stared at Liu Wenhui, narrowing his eyes, and said coldly, “Don’t block my doorway.”
Liu Wenhui looked up and met Jiang Yan’s gaze, feeling a chill in his heart.
He looked at Qi Lihong, but the young lady was looking down and wouldn’t meet his gaze.
Liu Wenhui tried to push Si Tian away, but she clung on too tightly; he simply couldn’t move her. With no other option, he had to hug Si Tian as they moved outside the door.
“Si Tian, let go first.”
“Brother Hu… that woman bullied me…”
Liu Wenhui couldn’t help but roll his eyes; saying Qi Lihong bullied you was even more preposterous than claiming there were two suns in the sky.
With a dark face and a stern voice, he said, “I told you not to bother Qi Lihong; are my words useless?”
“I didn’t bother her, it was clearly her bullying me… and that store manager, he’s not a good person, you help me teach him a lesson!”
Teach whom a lesson? Jiang Yan?
Liu Wenhui’s mouth twitched; if you want to die, don’t drag me into it.
Si Tian was used to being domineering; a momentary display of weakness was possible, but she couldn’t always play the victim.
She let go of Liu Wenhui, wiped the not-so-abundant tears from her face, and looked up at him, “Brother Hu, I didn’t expect you to become so cowardly after attending university. Since when did a mere store manager start to scare you? Isn’t he also a student at Beijing University? What are you afraid of?”
Although Qi Lihong was detestable, Jiang Yan was even more odious. The embarrassment he caused her today would be unforgettable for a lifetime.
She would not let this go so easily.
“You don’t know shit. He’s the class monitor, and we even share a dorm room. We’re very close. Because of your unreasonable troublemaking, you want me to go against my own buddy? How would I ever be able to mix with others at Beijing University after that?”
Si Tian was taken aback by his words and then suddenly had a realization, “I was wondering how that woman could work here as a cashier part-time, so it was your connection. Brother Hu, it’s not enough that you’re keeping her, but you also provide her with opportunities to make money. Why? Just because of her face? But don’t forget, you’re engaged to me, and I’m the only one who can marry you. She wants to marry you? She doesn’t stand a chance.”
Liu Wenhui’s face immediately darkened, “Si Tian, I’m going to tell you one more time, I don’t have feelings for you, and it’s impossible for us to be together!”
“Only my godmother will acknowledge me as her daughter-in-law.”
“Then let your godmother marry you.”
Having said that, Liu Wenhui turned to leave. Si Tian took two steps forward and grabbed his arm, angrily retorting, “Liu Wenhui, if you talk like that again, I will tell my godmother that you’re keeping a mistress in university. Don’t think I don’t know; I’ve already made inquiries. That Qi woman came from a small place, her family is extremely poor. If it weren’t for your help, she wouldn’t even be able to afford food, let alone attend school. She sleeps with you, and you support her, that’s the arrangement, isn’t it?”
The two quarreled heatedly, their voices loud, especially Si Tian, who, in her anger, was on the verge of yelling, causing many in the store to hear everything clearly.
A few shop assistants cast complex glances at Qi Lihong, but when they met Jiang Yan’s icy gaze, each quickly turned away and busied themselves with their work.
Since it was already late, most customers had left, and there weren’t many people left in the store.
Jiang Yan said to Qi Lihong, “Finish up and close up for the day.”
She saved the accounting spreadsheet on the computer, shut down the computer, and tidied up the desk.
After everything was in order, she bade Jiang Yan farewell and turned to leave.
When she passed the two people at the door, she didn’t pause for even a moment.
Liu Wenhui saw Qi Lihong come out and pulled away from Si Tian to chase after her.
“Liu Wenhui…”
“Don’t fucking bother me.”
“I’m going to tell…”
“Tell whoever you want, do you think I’m afraid?”
Angered, Si Tian stamped her feet on the spot, watching helplessly as Liu Wenhui caught up with that woman.
“Qi Lihong? Qi Lihong…”
Liu Wenhui called out a few times, seeing that Qi Lihong ignored him and was quickening her pace as if she wanted to leave him behind.
He was annoyed to death and grabbed her arm, stopping in his tracks.
Qi Lihong didn’t struggle, standing still quietly after he grabbed her, eyes focused forward, not looking at him.
“Can you stop causing trouble? I’m really frustrated!”
As expected, he received no response.
Liu Wenhui stared at her profile for a few seconds and then let go, “Fine, you want to make a fuss, want to leave, right? Go ahead, leave…”
He didn’t finish his sentence when Qi Lihong started walking briskly forward, not looking back even once as she rounded the corner ahead.
…
At the end of September, the freshmen’s military training came to an end, and before the National Day holiday, many classes were planning dinner gatherings.
Because of Weng Minhong and Zhang Ting’s interference, Qi Lihong barely had any interaction with the other girls in her class, so the dinner meant little joy for her.
After all, when it came to sitting at separate tables for men and women, she obviously couldn’t sit with Liu Wenhui at the boys’ table.
And sitting at the girls’ table without anyone talking to her was just as embarrassing.
Hence, Qi Lihong chose not to attend. Thankfully, Jiang Yan was the class monitor, and since she worked part-time in his store, she could excuse herself by saying she needed to take care of the shop. No one else spoke up, and of course, no one dared.
But Qi Lihong didn’t expect that by avoiding the uncomfortable dinner, she wouldn’t escape a much greater humiliation.
“Are you Qi Lihong?”
Moving her gaze from the computer data, Qi Lihong looked up at the middle-aged woman standing at the cashier desk, paused for a moment, and then nodded.
“I’m Liu Wenhui’s mother, and I’d like to have a word with you.”
