Rebirth: He Decides to Lie Flat -
Chapter 332 - 332 329 Everything is a Weapon
Chapter 332: Chapter 329: Everything is a Weapon Chapter 332: Chapter 329: Everything is a Weapon It was seven-thirty in the evening, Zhu Jin had just finished her bath and stepped out of the bathroom, toweling her mid-length hair dry.
In high school, she had kept her hair short for convenience, only starting to let it grow out after the college entrance exams. After two trims in between, it had just reached her shoulders.
With one hand, Zhu Jin rubbed her hair with the towel, and with the other, she reached for her phone on the table. When she picked it up and saw the name on the screen, she paused.
Then she pressed the answer button—
“Hello?”
“Um… I’m downstairs at your building right now.”
Zhu Jin: ???
Uncertain, she asked, “You said you’re where?”
“I’m at the bottom of your dorm building, I even saw Jiajia just now, walking with a few girls.”
Zhu Jin took a deep breath, incredulous, “You came here to find me?”
“To find you, so can you come down now?”
After hanging up, Zhu Jin still felt somewhat unreal. Why had Yu Hang come to find her so late at night?
Why?
She didn’t think he’d figured anything out. They hadn’t interacted much before, and she hadn’t been very obvious either. Besides, Yu Hang definitely wouldn’t remember the few times he had helped her back in high school.
Because of her buck teeth, she was often mocked behind her back as an eyesore. To say she didn’t care what others thought, that she didn’t care about her outward appearance, would be pure self-deception.
After all, she was just a teenager, at the age when one is supposed to bloom—how could she not care about beauty?
It was just that between academics and beauty, she chose academics.
The high pressure of intense study, plus the covert mockery, made her feel like something was wrong with her psyche for a while, turning her temperament quite volatile.
Once, when she had collected assignments to take to the office, someone bumped into her on purpose, scattering her notebooks all over the ground. She was so angry she demanded the person pick them up, only to be publicly insulted with a derogatory name.
She had held back her tears at the time, and just then, Yu Hang happened to walk by. He stepped forward and kicked the boy who had bumped into her, making him pick up the notebooks and apologize.
Another time, as she was passing by the sports field, some boys from Class Six were playing basketball and deliberately aimed the ball at her. Yu Hang blocked it just in time and threw it back…
As Zhu Jin changed her clothes and headed downstairs, her mind was occupied with thoughts that he didn’t remember, she was sure of it. He’d definitely forgotten about those two incidents a long time ago.
She had intended to keep her crush a secret, but as they got to know each other better in university than in high school, she couldn’t help but let some signs show.
Of course, these “signs” were just out of her own guilty conscience, and Yu Hang certainly wouldn’t notice anything unless he thought in that direction.
So, what was he doing here tonight?
When Zhu Jin came downstairs, she had changed into a white dress with blue stripes that reached just below the knees, revealing her fair and smooth lower legs. She hadn’t blow-dried her hair and had just hurriedly wiped it a bit; the tips were still wet, dampening the nape of her neck.
Seeing her damp hair, Yu Hang knew she had just showered; her faint scent of soap assailed his nostrils, and he turned his head away slightly unnaturally.
“What exactly is it?”
Zhu Jin looked up at him, considering that a trip from the School of Communication wasn’t close, especially late at night…
“Well… it’s nothing much, just that, Wu Minmin—you know, the girl from our class you saw this afternoon, there’s nothing between us. She’s from the south, and her manner of speaking is just like that.”
Zhu Jin stared at him in shock, “You came all the way here just to say this?” Didn’t he already mention it in his text message earlier in the day?
Yu Hang cleared his throat, even more awkwardly, “You… you didn’t reply to my text.”
“Didn’t I already reply?”
“Afterward, I asked if you had arrived at school, but you never replied. I thought you were mad at me.”
Zhu Jin was stunned for a moment, unlocking and opening the phone in her hand, muttering to herself, “You sent another message? How come I didn’t see it.”
Yu Hang touched his nose guiltily, whispering, “Maybe you didn’t receive it? Then probably the signal in your dormitory isn’t good.”
In reality, he hadn’t sent anything at all; he had come directly.
Zhu Jin naturally didn’t find the message, but she didn’t doubt his words either. She simply assumed the signal was bad, which is why she didn’t receive it.
After a few words were exchanged, they suddenly found themselves with nothing to say. Standing face to face, both felt a bit awkward.
“How about I show you around our school?”
After all, he had come all this way, so as the host, it was only right to show some hospitality.
Yu Hang nodded, “Let’s go see your school’s Golden Rooster Lake. Jiang Yan mentioned before that there’s a big rooster in it.”
“There are also two mandarin ducks. They look quite nice when lit up at night. But it’s even more beautiful in the winter when it snows and the lake freezes over. If you’re free, you can come over again to see it.”
With a topic to discuss, they chatted casually as they walked. The atmosphere between them started to feel okay. That is until they turned into a cobblestoned lane that led to Golden Rooster Lake, where they encountered entwined shadows of embracing couples and even the occasional embarrassing smooching noises.
Their faces turned a bit red with embarrassment. As they walked side by side, their arms accidentally brushed against each other, and they quickly separated as if they had been electrocuted.
Yu Hang couldn’t help cursing in his mind, How long since it got dark and they’re already this eager?
Of course, compared to his school, Beijing University still had relatively few of these couples. On the way over, only the area around Golden Rooster Lake had more couples in love, unlike School of Communication where, as soon as it got dark, every place was filled with pairs. Some of the more outrageous ones were directly making out under the girls’ dormitory buildings.
Of course, Yu Hang had only heard about it; he hadn’t witnessed it personally.
Due to the presence of these couples, their plans to watch the rooster and mandarin ducks got disrupted. They took a quick look and hurriedly left.
By the time they reached the brightly lit main road, both let out a sigh of relief and simultaneously wiped the sweat from their foreheads.
“Are you thirsty? How about some milk tea?”
“No thanks, I’d rather have juice. Milk tea at night keeps me awake.”
In the end, they simply went to a coffee shop. It would be a good place to have a drink and also rest.
Zhu Jin sat by the window, holding a cup of fruit tea as she looked at Yu Hang. Had he really come all this way just to explain about that girl?
She was now a little unsure of what Yu Hang felt for her.
Had he noticed something? Or did he have some other intention?
Yu Hang stirred his fruit tea, head down, aware that Zhu Jin was watching him with a scrutinizing gaze.
This girl was straightforward in her speech. Would she directly ask him something?
If she asked, what would he say?
Truthfully, he still hadn’t figured out what he truly felt. He had rushed over that evening impulsively because after that last text message, she hadn’t sent another, and he just couldn’t resist coming to see her.
Whether it was to explain or something else, after arriving and seeing her talk to him normally, he felt relieved.
Yu Hang felt that he had become overly sensitive due to Zhu Jin’s tendency over the past year to ignore him on a whim. As soon as she acted out of the ordinary, he would immediately think she was going to stop talking to him again.
Fortunately, Zhu Jin didn’t ask anything in the end. The two of them stayed in the coffee shop awkwardly until nine-thirty when Zhu Jin saw him off to take a taxi before she turned and headed back to school.
