Chapter 313 - 313 310 Accidental Encounter with Master

Chapter 313: Chapter 310 Accidental Encounter with Master Chapter 313: Chapter 310 Accidental Encounter with Master Now that’s perfect, cool enough and no leg exposure, killing two birds with one stone!

Mu Jiawen stared at the six pairs of pants in her hand for a solid minute, stunned. Last night, he had said he would make her some long pants, claiming they would be cooler than jean shorts and miniskirts. She thought he was just boasting, but it turned out to be true.

Actually, her mom had bought her quite a few long skirts as well, the ankle-length type, and she also had several that reached her calves. But she always felt these skirts were a bit troublesome to wear. Wherever she sat or squatted, she had to lift the hem of the skirt with her hand first, and it was even more so when going to the bathroom.

Pants were more convenient in comparison.

Mu Jiawen tilted her head in bewilderment as she looked at Jiang Yan, then stood up and went to her room to try them on.

“This fabric is quite comfortable.”

The pants were a bit loose, but the fabric had a nice drape to it, and coupled with Mu Jiawen’s slender and straight legs, and a perky rear… in short, whatever she wore looked stylish and good on her.

“How is it? Cool enough, right?”

Jiang Yan wore a slight look of pride on his face. The day he saw her wearing those denim shorts downstairs, her two long white legs nearly blinded him, not to mention other boys; such benefits couldn’t be given out lightly.

But this silly girl was completely unaware. Jiang Yan immediately sent her back to the dorm to change into long pants and repeatedly reminded her, under no circumstances and most definitely not to wear shorts.

Now with these mosquito-proof pants, she could put the other pants away for a while.

On June 24th, Beijing University started its final exams.

In the run-up to the exam, Ding Yuanyuan had been so engrossed in her studies that she barely slept or ate for half a month, and by the day of the exam, she had successfully slimmed down to a sharp chin.

When she looked in the mirror, she almost shocked herself, exclaiming, “The ancients truly did not deceive me. Not only are there houses of gold in books, but there are also beauties as fair as jade. Look, isn’t this it?”

Mu Jiawen and the others were also stunned by her audacity.

But honestly, Ding Yuanyuan did look prettier after losing ten pounds. Her face appeared smaller, her eyes looked much larger, and the dimples on her cheeks made her a spitting image of a lovely young beauty.

In the days leading up to the exam, two boys from her class had already sent her love letters.

After the exam, the girls of Room 303 went to a restaurant near the campus to have a meal together.

They initially wanted to go to Jinkuaizi, but for some reason, there was a commotion at the entrance. All four were wary of trouble, so they decided to go to Snow Mountain Restaurant across the street instead.

“Eh? Jiajia, isn’t that Jiang Yan?”

Sitting at a window table, Mu Jiawen saw Jiang Yan standing at the entrance of Jinkuaizi through the large, clear glass window. Not far behind him were Dai Lei, Tian Xiaohui, and the others.

“Are they going to eat at Jinkuaizi? But there’s clearly a fight going on in the lobby… Ah!”

As Ding Yuanyuan exclaimed, they saw a skinny old man being roughly thrown out by two staff members from Jinkuaizi. The old man would have certainly fallen to the ground if not for Jiang Yan, who had stepped forward just in time to catch him.

Whatever Jiang Yan said to those people at the restaurant, the two fierce-looking waiters instantly changed their expressions. They wanted to say something but saw that Jiang Yan wasn’t alone; there several other boys standing behind him, so they sulkily turned and went back inside the restaurant.

Jiang Yan and his friends didn’t enter Jinkuaizi; instead, he walked the old man towards Snow Mountain Restaurant.

“Jiajia, does Jiang Yan know that elderly gentleman?”

Mu Jiawen looked carefully at the old man’s face— it was unfamiliar, she had never seen him before. Could it be someone he knew from his time in Yunzhou?

The two restaurants were separated by only a street, not far apart. As soon as Jiang Yan entered, he saw Mu Jiawen sitting by the window. He nodded at her, gesturing for Dai Lei and Tian Xiaohui to take the old man to the innermost round table to sit down, then he headed back outside.

It wasn’t long before Jiang Yan returned with a plastic bag in hand. The white bag clearly showed medical supplies like cotton swabs and iodine used for treating wounds.

Mu Jiawen and the others had already noticed that the old man had injuries on his forehead and arm when he came in, clearly having been jostled around inside Jinkuaizi.

“Do you want to join us?”

As he passed by Mu Jiawen’s table carrying the bag, Jiang Yan asked.

There were only five of them, including the old man. Liu Wenhui was absent, but Jin Dapang had lately been almost a permanent fixture in their dorm, usually joining them for meals in the cafeteria as well.

“No, you go ahead and treat the grandfather’s wounds first.”

Jiang Yan nodded, and before leaving, he explained, “The head chef of Jinkuaizi was the old man’s apprentice. Before coming to Beijing, it seems he stole something from him. The old man followed him here to demand it back, but the apprentice denied it… That’s roughly what happened.”

After finishing, Jiang Yan went over to tend to the old man’s wounds on his forehead and arm. They looked quite severe, the skin was scraped, and the bleeding looked rather frightening.

“Young man, do you recognize me?”

The old man didn’t let Jiang Yan treat his wounds right away but instead asked, “You just called me Master Xiao, how do you know my surname is Xiao?”

Jiang Yan paused in his unwrapping of the cotton swabs. When he had seen Master Xiao about to fall, he had called out in a panic and had forgotten that in this life, they had not yet met.

But that wasn’t important—

He looked up, feigning surprise, “You don’t remember me?”

Master Xiao looked at him, completely clueless, then furrowed his brows in thought, but after a while, he gave up.

He chuckled apologetically at Jiang Yan, “I’m getting old, my memory isn’t what it used to be. Tell me, when have we met before?”

“Seven years ago, I got lost in Hucheng with my dad. Thieves had stolen the money I had on me. I was twelve at that time, and it was you who brought me to the hostel where my dad was staying. Do you remember now?”

Upon hearing this, Master Xiao’s eyes immediately widened in realization, “Ah, it’s you! You were such a little carrot top back then, not even as tall as a ten-year-old at twelve. I never imagined that seven years later, you would grow up to be so tall.”

Jiang Yan breathed a sigh of relief and casually added, “You did say so at the time, didn’t you? That boys start to grow properly after thirteen, and you told my dad not to worry about it.”

“Yeah, I did say that, but I remember your dad being quite short.”

“Yes, I am the tallest in my family. It must be some kind of genetic mutation. Anyway, I started growing taller once I started middle school.”

The two of them chatted amicably, taking turns speaking.

Jiang Yan finished treating the old man’s wounds, choosing not to bandage them since the weather would not accommodate it well.

Dai Lei and the others had already ordered food. After eating, Jiang Yan asked the old man, “Where are you staying?”

“There’s a small hotel near the train station. You don’t need to worry about me, I can get back on my own.”

Jiang Yan didn’t insist on keeping him but asked, “What’s your plan moving forward? Still going to demand the thief return your things? I suspect he won’t give them to you.”

Master Xiao’s teacher had passed down to him a set of knives—while they were indeed of good quality, the main value was their heritage. However, the knives had gone missing and after a long investigation, he found it was his eldest apprentice, Lao Zhengfeng, who had stolen them.

When he failed to find them in his home in Hucheng, he thought they might have been brought to Beijing, so Master Xiao followed here. But in reality, Lao Zhengfeng had already sold the knives long ago.
