Rebirth: He Decides to Lie Flat -
Chapter 195 - 195 192 Indeed it is a compliment
Chapter 195: Chapter 192: Indeed, it is a compliment Chapter 195: Chapter 192: Indeed, it is a compliment Saturday morning at six o’clock, Jiang Yan hadn’t fully opened his eyes when he reached for his phone beside the pillow. Then, squinting, he flipped open the cover and tapped out a few words to send.
Afterward, he put down his phone and closed his eyes again.
About ten minutes later, his phone buzzed twice.
He picked it up and opened the latest text message: “The fever should be gone, I didn’t check, but my head still hurts.”
Jiang Yan: “Did you take any medicine last night?”
Jiajia: “My second brother made me drink a bowl of black Chinese medicine, it was so bitter.”
Jiang Yan laughed: “Chinese medicine is good for your health, did you sleep well last night? Did you wake up in the middle?”
Jiajia: “No, I don’t know if it’s because of the medicine or because my mom slept with me.”
Jiang Yan felt a bit jealous of Mu Chenyan.
“Does sending messages wake your mom up?”
“She’s already gone downstairs to the kitchen to make porridge, but… I think I smell something burning.”
Jiang Yan: ….
“Isn’t your housemaid coming back today?”
“Not coming back, I heard she took two days off.”
“Then how about you tell your mom what you want to eat, and I’ll come over and make it for you.”
“Tomato and dough drop soup, just come over directly, she’ll definitely agree.”
Jiang Yan put down his phone and got out of bed.
Meanwhile, having replied to Jiang Yan, Song Jiawen then sent out reassurance texts to each of Liang Yujun and the others, responses to messages they sent the night before which she hadn’t seen because she went to bed early.
Xue Weisong’s message was among several others: “Are you feeling better? Which hospital are you in?”
Xue Weisong: “I bought some fruit and asked Liang Yujun to bring it to you, let me know if there’s anything else you want to eat.”
Xue Weisong: “Has the fever gone down? Have you come back?”
After reading, Song Jiawen exited directly without replying to him.
She got up and slipped into her soft cotton nightgown and went downstairs.
Mu Chenyan had just finished washing rice to put into the pot, intending to make plain porridge for her. Seeing her come in, she chided gently, “Why are you up just because mom is? Go back and sleep some more.”
Song Jiawen shook her head, “I can’t sleep anymore.”
She glanced at the white rice Mu Chenyan had just put in the pot, blinked, and said calmly, “Mom, I had porridge last night, I don’t want it now. I want tomato and dough drop soup.”
Mu Chenyan looked troubled, “Dough drop soup, do you know how to make it?”
“Jiang Yan knows how.”
“But it’s so early; it’s not good to call him up, is it? He finally has a day off; shouldn’t he catch up on some sleep?”
“I told him already, he’s on his way here.”
Mu Chenyan touched her daughter’s forehead, “You should have said so earlier.”
Then she sighed, “Mom is really useless, at this age and still can’t cook well, none of the dishes you like… I can’t make any of them.”
Having lived in Yunzhou for fourteen years, Song Jiawen’s tastes had undergone a drastic change from her childhood, and some of the dishes she liked, Mu Chenyan and her son had never even tasted.
On the way, Jiang Yan also stopped by the market to pick up some vegetables.
By the time he arrived at Qinghe Garden, it was not yet seven o’clock.
The entire neighborhood was quiet, with only the elderly heading out to buy groceries; hardly any young people were around.
Jiang Yan carefully observed the neighborhood, thinking it was indeed a very suitable place to live, and decided to buy a flat here once he had earned enough money.
What he didn’t know was that there was already a flat in this neighborhood that belonged to Song Jiawen.
Mu Chenyan had decorated the first-floor yard very comfortably. Jiang Yan wasn’t even close yet when he spotted Song Jiawen standing inside through the bright glasshouse.
Dressed like a fuzzy ball, she waved at him.
Because the glass room had no heating, she was forcibly put into a furry coat by Mu Chenyan when she came out.
By the time Jiang Yan got to the door, it had already been opened, and Song Jiawen stood inside, winking at him with her dark eyes.
Jiang Yan stuck his head in for a glance, no one was around.
He quickly rolled up his sleeve and pressed the inside of his wrist to her forehead, which was slightly warm and no longer had the scorching heat from yesterday.
He nodded calmly, “Indeed, the fever is gone.”
Song Jiawen had already placed a pair of men’s slippers at the door, and as Jiang Yan bent down to change shoes, she tried to take the bag from his hand, but Jiang Yan didn’t let her.
“It’s cold, don’t touch it.”
“What did you buy? Can I eat meat for lunch?”
After changing his shoes and turning around to look at her, he asked, “You want to eat meat already even though you’re not fully recovered?”
Song Jiawen didn’t say a word, just looked at him.
Jiang Yan sighed, “Alright, I did buy some beef, I’ll braise it for you.”
“If it’s too bland when braised, I want to eat boiled beef.”
“First ask your second brother if you can eat that.”
As they talked, they walked towards the kitchen, where Mu Chenyan came out, apologizing to Jiang Yan with a smile, “I’m sorry to trouble you to cook on such a big weekend. Tell me what you need, I’ll assist you.”
Jiang Yan lifted the bag in his hand, “I’ve bought everything already, don’t be polite to me. Dough drop soup is easy to make, it will be ready in about ten minutes.”
Since Jiang Yan insisted that he didn’t need help, Mu Chenyan had to leave the kitchen.
Looking back at her daughter, who was leaning on the doorway talking to Jiang Yan, she felt that her daughter’s eyes and brows exuded relaxation and peace.
Jiang Yan took out the newly purchased tomatoes and put them into the sink, washing them and talking to her, “Yang Dan will come over in the morning, should I tell her you’re here?”
Yang Dan had called their dorm last night and Ding Yuanyuan told her about the illness, she was quite worried, so besides delivering coffee and milk tea, her main purpose today was to visit the sick.
Song Jiawen thought for a moment; she couldn’t keep her background a secret forever, there would come a day when she had to tell these friends.
So she nodded, “Bring her over at noon, have lunch here, but for lunch…”
“I know, I’ll cook.”
Song Jiawen flattered sincerely, “Even if auntie was here, the food she cooks wouldn’t taste as good as yours. Last week at home, she made a bunch of Western food and I didn’t even get full.”
Not getting full at your own house?
“In the end, I boiled a pack of instant noodles.”
Jiang Yan turned his head and glanced at her sideways, “You just wanted instant noodles, didn’t you?”
“Kind of, but Western food really has no taste.”
Talking like this, Jiang Yan swiftly made the dough drop soup and reheated yesterday’s pancakes, also mixing doupi and broccoli.
Yu Heng and Yu Feng got up from bed lured by the aroma.
Their bed-headed selves advanced to the dining table to have a look, sniffing the smell of the sesame oil floating over the dough drop soup and swallowing salivary gulps.
As for Jiang Yan sitting in front of the dining table, it seemed like they had gotten used to seeing him around the house since last night.
After breakfast, when Jiang Yan left for the computer shop, the brothers behind Xiaosi, who was watching TV, asked Mu Chenyan, “Mom, you can’t possibly fail to see that the kid has ulterior motives for your daughter, can you?”
“So what?” Mu Chenyan replied indifferently, “Our Xiaosi is smart and pretty, isn’t it normal to have suitors? Don’t make a fuss over it.”
Without waiting for them to respond further, she added, “I think Jiang Yan is quite good. Although it might be early to discuss this, if the two of them do end up together someday, at least your sister won’t be wronged in married life.”
“You two have to trust Xiaosi. I think my daughter has a much better eye for people than I do. Look at these eyes of mine,” Mu Chenyan pointed to herself and continued, “Blind, you know? And me, I was too superficial when I was young, only going for looks. But what’s the use of a pretty face? Xiaosi sees deeper, knows to look at substance, and even at cooking skills.”
Yu Heng & Yu Feng: ….
They’re pretty sure their mom is praising Jiang Yan, but why does it feel like the praise is almost the same as none at all?
As they exchanged looks and were about to add their two cents, they heard Mu Chenyan’s disdainful comment, “With you two like this, you’ll probably end up as bachelors!”
