Chapter 98: Chapter 98: I Am a Person Who Must Retaliate for Every Grievance
Si Yuhuan hurried to Yaowang but didn’t see Jian Xi; instead, he saw Deputy Director Li Bin.
"Director Si." Seeing Si Yuhuan, Li Bin immediately jogged over to greet him.
Si Yuhuan furrowed his brows. "Where is she?"
"It seems CEO Jian knew you were coming and left in advance," Li Bin said with a wry smile. "I wasn’t involved in arranging this exhibition, but it seems CEO Jian has discovered some clues."
"Not necessarily. Just do your job."
Si Yuhuan patted his shoulder and turned to leave.
The receptionist saw this and sent a photo to Jian Xi.
Jian Xi immediately transferred five thousand yuan to her as a reward.
Generous rewards attract brave individuals—a lesson Si Yuhuan taught her in her previous life.
In this life, she applied it well and had just managed to uncover some secrets.
She had always suspected that Li Bin’s talents were being wasted at a small company like Yaowang. Despite making several indirect inquiries, she hadn’t been able to find out why. Now, she knew: he worked for Si Yuhuan. No wonder he was so worldly-wise, tactful, and extremely capable.
Si Yuhuan called.
Jian Xi answered, "If this is about backing Jiang Qimeng, I advise you not to even start. After all, she’s my rival in love. Nothing I do is excessive. If she isn’t even prepared for this, she shouldn’t dream of competing for the position of Mrs. Si. I’m petty and vindictive; I seek revenge for the smallest slight. If she insists on dragging you into this as her shield, I’ll get angry. And if I do something drastic then, you’d better be careful not to regret it."
"Jian Xi, where do you get the audacity to threaten me?"
Si Yuhuan was so angry he laughed. How could she be so sure he’d fall for her act?
"Xixi, come and try this. The pastry chef did a good job with this one too."
On the other end of the line, Old Master Si was calling Jian Xi to taste some delicacies. "Coming, Grandpa!"
Jian Xi smiled sweetly, then threatened Si Yuhuan, "Grandpa’s calling me. Are we still going to talk about Jiang Qimeng?"
"Jian Xi!" Si Yuhuan gritted his teeth.
Jian Xi hung up triumphantly.
Jiang Qimeng finally caught up, got out of her car, and rushed to Si Yuhuan. "Yuhan, this isn’t Jian Xi’s fault. She’s just too impulsive. If she could just..."
"Sorry, Mengmeng, you shouldn’t attend this exhibition. If you’d like, I can organize a private one just for you."
Jiang Qimeng’s expression turned incredibly sour. Did she care about just any exhibition? No! She wanted to attend the exhibition Jian Xi had forbidden her from attending. That was the only way to show off her special status.
"Jian Xi... she..."
Jiang Qimeng’s heart leaped into her throat. Hadn’t that person said Jian Xi had already asked Wan Yu to find a private hospital for an abortion? Don’t tell me she told Si Yuhuan she was pregnant!
"She’s with Grandpa. His health isn’t stable, and I don’t want to upset him."
PHEW! So that was it.
Jiang Qimeng’s smile returned. "Yuhan, I don’t care about any exhibition. I only care about your opinion of me. I’m not that vain a woman."
"Good, I’m glad you think that way."
Si Yuhuan said a few comforting words, relieved. "Then I’ll head over there too."
Jiang Qimeng was furious. You finally came back, and instead of spending time with me, you’re going to her! she wanted to scream.
But she couldn’t reveal her true nature. "Okay, then drive carefully."
As soon as Si Yuhuan left, her expression gradually twisted. "Jian Xi, you’re really courting death."
She called Si Junyan.
No matter the cost, she had to attend this exhibition. She wanted it all—the prestige and the victory.
Jian Xi was happily tasting treats with Grandpa when, unexpectedly, Si Yuhuan also returned.
The chef served him several newly developed pastries. Jian Xi had assumed he wouldn’t eat them, but to her surprise, he tasted each one and even offered his critique.
"Overly sweet things aren’t good for Grandpa," he said. "Don’t make these high-sugar items anymore."
Grandpa nodded. "You brat, you finally realize there are things to care about besides work."
He took Jian Xi’s hand and placed it in Si Yuhuan’s palm. "Xixi said the exact same thing just now."
Si Yuhuan’s heart stirred slightly. Jiang Qimeng was good too, but her strengths lay in matters concerning the Si Family’s overall interests. Compared to Jian Xi’s meticulous attentiveness and filial devotion to Grandpa, Jiang Qimeng fell far short. No wonder Grandpa doted on Jian Xi and was so fond of her.
"Brown-noser," Si Yuhuan sneered coldly.
Jian Xi shot him a glare. Thinking of this damned bastard’s child she was carrying, her anger flared. "You want me to suck up to you? I can’t even be bothered!"
Those words were true, Si Yuhuan thought. It used to be her chasing him, but somewhere along the line, it had become him chasing her.
Si Yuhuan gritted his back teeth. "You’re just asking for a lesson."
"You dare lay a finger on me? Just try it."
Grandpa watched them bicker, then shot Si Yuhuan a death glare.
Si Yuhuan had wanted to teach Jian Xi a lesson, but seeing Grandpa’s glare, he swallowed his words. With a dark expression, he changed his tune, "I’m just afraid if I ’touch’ you too much, you won’t be able to take it and will end up crying and begging for mercy."
Understanding his implication, Jian Xi’s pretty face flushed crimson. "You pervert!"
After shooting him a fierce glare, Jian Xi ran off, mortified.
Grandpa glanced at Housekeeper Qi beside him and suppressed a chuckle. It seems their relationship isn’t as bad as I thought. My worries were unnecessary.
When Si Yuhuan came out, Jian Xi was long gone.
He recalled his vow not to return to her home at Fuyuan Official Residence and now felt a twinge of regret. Her charming coyness just now had made his heart skip a beat.
Leaning against his limited-edition custom Rolls-Royce, Si Yuhuan pulled out a cigarette, lit it, and took a deep drag. His gaze was profound as he looked down the road Jian Xi had taken, then he pulled out his phone.
"Yan Qing, isn’t it about time for new construction at Fuyuan Official Residence?"
Yan Qing, who was organizing files, paused for a second then immediately understood. "Director Zheng did mention it, Boss. You’re truly brilliant! I believe there’s still space for development next to A Zone. I’ll have the designers draw up a proposal first thing tomorrow."
"Mm, very good." Si Yuhuan hung up, satisfied.
「Haohan Group.」
「CEO’s Office.」
Si Junyan pushed past Yan Qing and burst in.
"Big Brother, how can you let Jian Xi humiliate Mengmeng like this? Do you have any idea how the industry is laughing at her right now?"
Si Yuhuan frowned, his voice naturally authoritative as he warned, "This is the office."
Si Junyan seethed with indignation. "Big Brother! Even if Jian Xi is your wife in name only, you can’t spoil her and let her act so recklessly! Mengmeng saved your life! Have you forgotten she still bears the old injury she got saving you?"
"Mengmeng doesn’t have grand ambitions; she just wants to be a top streamer. What Jian Xi is doing is clearly intended to make things difficult for her. It’s outright bullying!"
"Just now, Mengmeng drank too much at the bar. I took her home. The doctor said she almost had gastric bleeding."
Si Yuhuan tensed instantly, his cold, dark eyes sweeping towards him. "How is she?"
Seeing Si Yuhuan was still concerned about Jiang Qimeng, Si Junyan felt slightly more at ease.
"Her emotions have stabilized for now. She begged me not to tell you about this. See? That’s how much she cares about you! Do you know, if I hadn’t accidentally run into her while I was out meeting a client, Mengmeng would be hospitalized by now! She just fell down the stairs recently, and those injuries haven’t even healed yet. Being hospitalized again and again, on top of her old injury—her body won’t be able to take it for much longer! You should go see her."
