Chapter 93 Threat
Chapter 93: Chapter 93 Threat
"Zhou Yan, come out here."
It was Zhou Bo’s voice from outside the door.
Upon hearing it, Zhou Yan immediately got up.
"Senior, I..."
"Just go out. I don’t need you here."
Jian Xi roughly understood. After she had fainted last night, Zhou Yan must have attacked Si Yuhuan upon regaining consciousness. Given Si Yuhuan’s temperament, he definitely wouldn’t have let Zhou Yan off easily; that was probably why Zhou Yan’s arm was broken.
Zhou Bo, holding a high position, didn’t want the situation to escalate. So, he had suppressed the incident and called a private doctor to diagnose and treat the three of them.
Zhou Yan must not have been watched closely just now, allowing him to run in here, which is why Zhou Bo has appeared again.
Alas! A parent’s heart is deep. Zhou Bo probably hates me intensely right now. He might even want to revoke my degree to quell his anger.
Ten minutes later, Zhou Bo met with Jian Xi alone.
"Where’s Si Yuhuan?" With such a commotion, if he was staying in the next room, he wouldn’t be out of sight, Jian Xi thought, a bad premonition stirring within her.
Zhou Bo raised his hand. Everyone else left, leaving only the doctor Nurse Xiaoxing had mentioned.
"I can guarantee on my honor that Director Si has returned to the hotel to continue dealing with this public relations crisis. As for you..."
Zhou Bo looked up at the doctor.
The doctor immediately stepped forward.
"Miss Jian, you’re pregnant."
"What?" Jian Xi jerked her head up to look at the doctor opposite her, then fell silent. It felt as if she’d been struck by a bolt from the blue, her ears ringing, her head spinning.
The doctor took out the medical report. "Although this is just a preliminary examination, based on my experience, I’m quite certain you’re showing signs of pregnancy. There are also signs of a threatened miscarriage."
Jian Xi didn’t know how she managed to walk out of there.
She felt as if her entire body wasn’t her own; walking was like floating, as if treading on cotton. She touched her lower abdomen. A new life was budding here. Her child with Si Yuhuan. What a colossal joke! The emergence of an unloved child—what did this even mean? And who tampered with the previous examination?!
Just moments before, she had pleaded with Zhou Bo, "Principal Zhou, I assume you called me out alone because you haven’t told Zhou Yan or Si Yuhuan about this. You’re a perceptive man; you must know I don’t want this news to spread. Please, help me keep it a secret. I assure you, I will definitely not get involved with Zhou Yan. Please, rest assured."
Zhou Bo had agreed.
Talking to an intelligent person really doesn’t require much effort, Jian Xi thought.
Jian Xi returned to the hotel and lay on the bed, her head throbbing as if it would split.
She called Wan Yu.
"Xixi, I was just about to look for you! Remember that doctor I arranged to give medicine to Si Yuhuan? I wanted to ask her to do something today, but guess what? That girl is as timid as a mouse; she actually quit her job and fled abroad! Anyone who didn’t know better would think she had a guilty conscience, as if she were behind some huge, shocking conspiracy. I..."
"I’m pregnant."
Silence instantly fell on the other end of the line.
After a long moment, Wan Yu screamed, "Si... Si... Si Yuhuan’s child?"
"Who else’s would it be?"
Wan Yu was floored.
"Didn’t the examination say you were fine, just some stomach discomfort? Damn it..." Suddenly, a thought struck her, and she swallowed hard. "Was *she* the doctor you consulted? No, no, that damn Jiang Qimeng must have been plotting behind the scenes, mustn’t she?! What is she trying to do? She wants you and the child dead! Connecting all her recent actions—how she went out of her way to provoke you, even risking her ’innocent maiden’ image—it all makes sense now! That woman wants you to miscarry!"
"She knew you were pregnant all along and wanted to harm you and the baby! Is she even human? She’s a devil!" Wan Yu was furious, and Jian Xi felt a similar rage.
"I’ll tear her apart! I have to tear her apart today!" Wan Yu seethed.
Jian Xi stopped her. "Don’t be impulsive."
"How can I not be impulsive? Xixi, has pregnancy made you stupid? Have you lost your mind? They’re practically dancing on our graves, and you’re telling me to repay evil with kindness?"
"Now isn’t the best time for revenge. The issue at hand is what to do about the baby."
Wan Yu was speechless.
"Are you thinking of aborting it?"
Jian Xi nodded. "Yes."
"Help me arrange for the best doctor. Let’s just quietly take care of this."
"But wouldn’t that be exactly what Jiang Qimeng wants?"
Jian Xi pursed her lips. "Bringing a child born without love into this world wouldn’t be fair either."
"Alright. I support you."
Wan Yu promptly went to arrange for a doctor.
Jian Xi spent a sleepless night.
After all, it was her own flesh and blood. All night, whenever she closed her eyes, she seemed to hear a child’s voice by her ear, calling, ’Mommy, don’t abandon me! I’ll be good.’ Tears streamed down Jian Xi’s face instantly.
Why did it have to be so cruel!
「...」
Jiang Qimeng had been quietly waiting for good news. They said Jian Xi fainted, so why hadn’t there been any word of a miscarriage?
Assistant Xiaozhang, understanding his master’s thoughts, advised, "Everything is foolproof, Sister Meng. First, Du Mingrui stirred up trouble, and then Zhou Yan paved the way for us. I heard Director Si had a fierce argument with her. Given her physical condition, she’s bound to miscarry. When that happens, an insurmountable gulf will form between them, and the position of Director Si’s wife will definitely be yours."
Jiang Qimeng’s cold gaze swept over him, and Xiaozhang immediately fell silent, though he sensed she was somewhat calmed by his words.
She went to pour some water.
Just as Jiang Qimeng answered a phone call, she suddenly slammed the covers to the floor.
"Why? Why didn’t it work even after all that?!"
She was frantic, unable to hide her inner turmoil, her violent nature completely exposed.
Xiaozhang was terrified, nearly collapsing to his knees.
Jiang Qimeng pointed at him and yelled, "Is this how you handle things? Did something go wrong? How could her body possibly withstand it!"
"Sister Meng, Sister Meng, it really has nothing to do with me!" Xiaozhang pleaded. "It was always said her health was fragile; she couldn’t possibly have carried the child to term. There must be some information we’re missing. It really isn’t my fault."
Xiaozhang, quicker-witted than the previous assistant, added, "Sister Meng, the priority now is to clear our names. If Director Si finds out she was pregnant, won’t that put us at a disadvantage? There’s still time. Why don’t we go over there tonight and..." He made a swift, throat-slitting gesture.
"No!" Jiang Qimeng exclaimed, panic-stricken.
Suddenly, her cell phone rang.
Jian Xi’s voice came through, languid and calm, "Feeling anxious, Jiang Qimeng? Are you that eager for me to die?"
"Jian Xi! Do you even know what you’re saying?"
"How could I not know? I nearly had a miscarriage! All thanks to you, it was all your plan, wasn’t it? Sending people to provoke me time and again. If Si Yuhuan hadn’t helped me out of this jam, I might have died out here in the Northwest with no one even to claim my body, right?"
"You’re so malicious. Does Si Yuhuan know?"
"If I told him it was all your scheme, that you nearly dragged down both the Si Family and the Jian Family, do you think he would still marry you?"
"What do you want, Jian Xi?"
