Chapter 84: Chapter 84 I’m Grossed Out
Si Junyan received the news immediately. He was so incredulous he nearly flung the documents at his secretary’s head.
"Did Big Brother really say that? Increase support for the Jian Group? And have Jian Mingcheng, that old fossil, join the strategic planning seminar for market expansion?"
The secretary, sweating profusely, replied, "Yes, that’s what Director Si indicated. Vice Director, if you’d please look..."
Although Si Junyan held the title of Vice Director, his actual authority was worlds apart from Si Yuhuan’s.
He couldn’t change Si Yuhuan’s decisions.
Every time he thought of Jiang Qimeng’s tear-reddened eyes, his heart ached as if it were being squeezed. No, I have to see Big Brother myself! I refuse to believe he’s been so bewitched as to make such an outrageous decision.
Si Junyan slapped the documents onto his secretary and stormed out.
Jian Xi had just lain down on her bed when Wan Yu urgently started a WeChat call with her.
"Sis, something terrible has happened!"
"My contact just saw Si Junyan receive a document. He was furiously asking for your address. I’m guessing he’s probably coming to make trouble for you."
Wan Yu said anxiously, "That guy’s a desperado! You absolutely must lock your doors and windows. I’m calling the police for you right now."
"No need," Jian Xi replied calmly.
"Are you crazy?"
"Si Yuhuan is staying with me. What do you think Si Junyan can do to me?" Jian Xi sneered. "Even though Si Yuhuan is a piece of trash, he’s not so pathetic that he’d stand by in a good mood while another man beats up his wife right in front of him."
"Uh... you two slept together again?" Wan Yu stammered, speechless.
Her matchmaking was actually working!
"Slept, my ass! That shameless guy insisted on staying. He’s still useful to me for now, so I might as well keep him under my nose. Let Jiang Qimeng suffer."
"Awesome! You’ve finally wised up!" Wan Yu roared with laughter. "Just imagining Jiang Qimeng looking like she’s eaten shit right now makes me feel great!"
Jian Xi agreed, "Me too. It feels great."
"Si Yuhuan has definitely fallen for you," Wan Yu said, repeating her usual refrain. "He’s so high and mighty, yet he’s repeatedly stooped down for you. That can only mean it’s true love!"
Jian Xi was unimpressed. "A cold-blooded animal like him, capable of true feelings? He’s just annoyed that a toy he discarded was picked up and cherished by someone else. He probably wants to snatch it back just to toss it aside and let it gather dust again. That’s just his contrarian psychology, get it?"
"That actually makes some sense. If he’s really like that, then he’s trash on a whole new level."
After hanging up with Wan Yu, Jian Xi frowned, wondering how Si Yuhuan could possibly fall in love with her.
Does he love her for being such a drama queen? One moment, he’s undoubtedly deeply in love, and the next, he’s tossing her aside like an old shoe?
Jian Xi waited a long time, but the anticipated drama didn’t unfold. Could Si Junyan have gotten lost?
She carried a fruit platter to the study.
Si Yuhuan was still working. Under the dim yellow lamplight, his handsome face was serious as he tackled some thorny issue. Hearing a sound, he looked up, saw Jian Xi, and then set aside his work and stood up.
"Bringing me fruit?" he asked, somewhat surprised.
Jian Xi hadn’t taken care of his meals or daily needs for a long time; her sudden thoughtfulness was unusual.
"Seeing you work so hard, I felt I should come and check on you." I could puke, I’m such a hypocrite, Jian Xi thought.
Si Yuhuan, accustomed to her care, casually took a piece of cantaloupe and bit into it. Juice moistened his thin lips, making them glisten as if coated with natural lip gloss—truly alluring...
Jian Xi quickly averted her gaze, yet couldn’t help but feel her eyes drawn back to him.
The man’s Adam’s apple bobbed. He casually undid a few more buttons on his shirt, an act of immense allure. Her gaze drifted lower, taking in his prominent collarbones and the smooth, well-defined lines of his chest—not bulky, but perfectly proportioned...
No, no! Jian Xi, if you keep looking, you’ll get a nosebleed! It’s late at night; your mind must stay clear. Don’t be seduced by his looks. For a man one has deeply loved, even if it’s hatred now, there can still be a physical desire. That’s a normal physiological response for an adult woman.
Si Yuhuan noticed all her subtle reactions and deliberately undid another button.
The faint outline of his eight-pack abs was even more striking.
"COUGH, COUGH, COUGH!" Jian Xi tried to ease the awkwardness. "I just came to ask what’s going on with Si Junyan. I wouldn’t want to be the cause of a rift between you brothers."
A flicker of disappointment crossed Si Yuhuan’s eyes. Her interest in him was clearly superficial.
"You don’t need to worry about how company matters are handled. Publicly, he (Si Junyan) is merely a manager I’ve hired. Privately, he has no right to interfere with my decisions."
Such a domineering statement, Jian Xi thought.
Jian Xi pouted. "Then why do you still let him act as the representative?"
"It’s a basic reward for employees, part of the rules and regulations I’ve established. I won’t break my own rules unless it’s absolutely necessary."
"So, your ’absolutely necessary’ only applies when it comes to Jiang Qimeng?"
If it concerned Jiang Qimeng, Si Yuhuan would undoubtedly deal with Si Junyan sternly, without batting an eye, leaving no room for leniency. Her own miserable death in her past life was a bloody lesson!
"Can you stop bringing her up all the time?" Si Yuhuan said, a headache starting to form.
Jian Xi’s lips twisted into a smile uglier than a grimace. "Acting like this, it’s no wonder everyone deserts you, leaving only Jiang Qimeng by your side."
BANG!
Only after slamming the door on her way out did she remember: she had forgotten to ask Si Yuhuan why Si Junyan hadn’t shown up.
His not following the usual script really piqued her curiosity.
Wan Yu soon provided the answer.
"Explosive news! Jiang Qimeng chased after Si Junyan and literally dragged him home! If you ask me, she’s not just good at playing the innocent white lotus; she’s a master manipulator. Xixi, you need to be careful. She’s not as simple as you think."
"Of course, she’s not simple." Otherwise, I wouldn’t have died so miserably, Jian Xi thought.
Jian Xi reassured Wan Yu, "Don’t worry. Know your enemy and know yourself, and you will win a hundred battles. I’ll be fine."
Early the next morning, Jian Xi got up for a run.
She hadn’t expected Si Yuhuan to be out for his morning exercise already. In his casual sportswear, he seemed more approachable and less coldly aloof. His every graceful movement exuded an air of nobility, attracting openly flirtatious gazes from many nearby women.
Jian Xi deliberately bumped into him as she ran past.
To her surprise, he called out, "Wife, wait for me!"
Instantly, Jian Xi became the public enemy of all the women there. Their jealous glares were sharp enough to kill.
"Si Yuhuan, are you trying to disgust me?" If this were back when she deeply loved him, his calling her ’Wife’ would have made her so ecstatic she wouldn’t have been able to sleep for days.
But now, it just sounded utterly hypocritical.
UGH! She stopped, an irresistible urge to vomit washing over her.
Si Yuhuan’s face darkened. She was actually going to vomit! What was wrong with calling her ’Wife’? They were legally married! Why would it provoke such a strong, adverse reaction from her? This dealt a severe blow to the overbearing CEO’s pride.
Jian Xi herself didn’t understand what was wrong. Could it be that I got up too early, and my body can’t handle such strenuous activity?
She patted her chest and felt another wave of nausea.
Si Yuhuan lost his patience. "Jian Xi, that’s enough!"
"I really do feel like throwing up," Jian Xi said, glaring at him. "And yes, you’re genuinely disgusting me."
