Chapter 73: Jumping as a Prophet
Chapter 73: Chapter 73: Jumping as a Prophet
Securing brands, getting them into malls, collaborating with the Jian Group, and even investing—all told, it had already exceeded 1.5 billion. Yet, he kept dragging his feet, refusing to divorce her, until last night when she finally couldn’t endure it any longer.
If it hadn’t been for the tangible harm she suffered in her past life, Jian Xi would have doubted if she was out of her mind.
"Are you sure you’ve kept Silicon Crystal clutched in your hand and not sold it to him?" Jian Mingcheng took a sip of coffee handed to him by his secretary and spoke coolly.
He supported Jian Xi unconditionally and agreed with any decision she made. However, he felt it necessary to remind her; otherwise, there would be no turning back for either of them.
Jian Xi nodded. "I’m sure."
She clenched her palm tightly, leaving pale indentations. Only this kind of pain could make her remember, deep in her bones, how she had been betrayed in her previous life. No matter what happened, nothing would change her desire to become stronger.
"Jiang Qimeng..." Jian Mingcheng was about to ask, but Jian Xi interrupted him.
"Brother, that’s all in the past. She’s just an inconsequential clown; to me, she’s nothing."
They were already divorced; what did it matter anymore? For all she knew, Jiang Qimeng could be Mrs. Si by tomorrow.
Jian Xi felt a tightness in her chest. She shouldn’t have acted so impulsively and divorced Si Yuhuan so soon. No, that’s not right! What was she thinking! It was already done! Whoever regrets it is a damned fool!
Jian Mingcheng felt a knot of frustration; his own sister was as stubborn as a mule.
"In any case, don’t let anyone bully you. With several brothers like us in this world to back you up, you should be the one bullying others, not the other way around. Understand?"
"Understood."
Jian Xi joyfully threw herself into her brother’s arms, playfully seeking his affection for a while before leaving the Jian Group.
Jian Mingcheng called their mother. "Everything seems normal. Could the butler have seen things incorrectly?"
"How could that be? She’s acting so strangely. Anyone who didn’t know better would think she’d had a huge fight and gotten divorced!"
Jian Mingcheng’s heart skipped a beat. What did she mean by ’all that being in the past’? His little sister couldn’t have really gotten divorced, could she?
He dialed his secretary. "Check if Xixi and Si Yuhuan have divorced."
「...」
Jian Xi pondered. Since the marriage was over, she might as well go to the Si Family Old Residence to retrieve the things she had left there and take them back to the Fuyuan Official Residence.
The renovation crew had just called, saying they were nearly done and she could move in that evening.
Grandfather was taking his nap, and the butler led her straight upstairs.
"The Old Master was just saying we should clean it daily so you can rest as soon as you return. How many days will you stay this time?"
Jian Xi hesitated for a moment, her hand pausing on the door handle. It seemed Si Yuhuan hadn’t yet told Grandfather about their divorce.
"I’m not staying over. I’m just here to pick up some things."
Jian Xi curved her lips into a smile. The butler, not suspecting anything, said, "Alright then, Madam, please make yourself comfortable. If you need anything, I’ll be just outside."
She went in and efficiently packed some personal items into a large bag.
Just as she was about to leave unnoticed, someone called out to her from behind.
"Feeling better? You come and go in such a hurry without even stopping to see your grandfather!"
Old Master Si had awoken from his rest. Seeing her tiptoeing around like a thief, he couldn’t help but speak up.
"Grandpa, you’re awake," Jian Xi said, a bit embarrassed.
Retrieving her own things, yet she felt like a thief.
She walked over and massaged the old man’s shoulders, thinking this would likely be the last time she could show him such filial piety.
"I’m quite well. It’s just some minor injuries, nothing to worry about."
Having heard that Si Junyan was thriving in the Northwest, Jian Xi thought for a moment and couldn’t help but ask, "Grandpa, have you been in touch with Si Junyan recently?"
Unexpectedly, Grandfather exclaimed angrily, "That bastard! How could I contact him? The Si Family doesn’t have such despicable scoundrels who dare to lay a hand on their own sister-in-law—an unforgivable crime!"
Old Master Si’s face darkened with gloom; just mentioning the incident caused his blood pressure to rise. The butler quickly handed over his blood pressure medication.
Jian Xi nodded. "I’m sorry, Grandpa. I didn’t mean to bring him up. Please don’t be angry."
Old Master Si didn’t seem to be faking it. Jian Xi seriously suspected Si Junyan had a powerful backer. He was certainly capable, but surely not *that* monstrously so! How could anyone thrive in an unfamiliar place without any help from the Si Family? She’d need to find time to investigate.
Old Master Si sighed heavily. "The Si Family has wronged you. Those two scoundrels have wronged you."
His attitude made Jian Xi feel quite uncomfortable.
"Actually, it’s nothing. I brought it all on myself."
If she hadn’t fallen for Si Yuhuan, if she hadn’t insisted on marrying him, if she hadn’t believed true feelings could be reciprocated, how could all these tragedies have happened? From the very beginning, she shouldn’t have loved someone she wasn’t supposed to love.
Old Master Si frowned deeply. "Nonsense! If anyone’s to blame, it’s me. If not for me, you and Yuhan wouldn’t have had so many years of misunderstandings."
It was he who had favored Jian Xi, deeming her suitable in terms of social standing. Knowing her genuine feelings for his grandson, he had taken it upon himself to drug Si Yuhuan. He also arranged for reporters to ambush them outside the hotel and sent Jiang Qimeng abroad, thereby forcing Si Yuhuan to marry Jian Xi. He had orchestrated all of it.
He had thought that once they were married, Si Yuhuan would settle down. To his dismay, however, Si Yuhuan became convinced it was all Jian Xi’s malevolent scheme. No amount of explanation worked, leading to his years of indifference towards her.
"That scoundrel has been utterly bewitched by Jiang Qimeng, completely blinded to who the truly good person is," he said. "Don’t worry, your love for him can melt even the hardest of hearts."
Jian Xi wanted to laugh.
She once thought so too. But reality proved that not only could she not melt his heart, but she had also dragged herself, her parents, and the Jian Group into the abyss. In her previous life, she died tragically. Her parents, who had lived in affluence their entire lives, were ruined by him, forced to eke out a miserable existence in a shabby motel!
In this life, she had tried seduction again, and again she had failed. Si Yuhuan was her calamity.
But now they were divorced. She no longer needed to hide her sharp claws. This life, she would have her revenge. That scheming bitch Jiang Qimeng—she would make her pay dearly.
"Grandpa, have you ever thought that persistence might be fruitless?" she asked, her gaze fixed intently on Old Master Si.
Old Master Si was immediately at a loss for words.
He saw in Jian Xi’s eyes a weariness with the marriage, an indifference that unsettled him. "Xixi, perseverance is important. I’ve always thought the world of you as my granddaughter-in-law. You mustn’t give up so easily. Si Yuhuan is a faithful man. As long as you have him wrapped around your finger, no one else’s attempts to entice him will matter."
By the same token, since he loved Jiang Qimeng, nothing she did to entice him would ever work!
But Jian Xi didn’t argue. She just gave a noncommittal, cheerful response and said she needed to return to the Jian Family Old House.
The moment she left, the old master began to sigh again.
The butler approached.
"Old Qi, did you see that? She doesn’t seem as enthusiastic about Yuhan as she was initially. Has that boy been misbehaving lately and angered Xixi? If that woman decides not to look back, not even ten bulls could drag her back. That boy is in for a rough time."
Old Master Si didn’t realize he had just spoken like a prophet.
