Chapter 66: Chapter 66 Can I go?
Si Yuhan had left, but Jian Xi just couldn’t fall asleep.
Jiang Qimeng was more troublesome than she had imagined.
Having learned from past mistakes, Jian Xi decided this time to get the most solid and compelling evidence, to break her hypocritical wings, and see if she could still fly in front of her and show off.
The next morning, she got out of bed with dark circles under her eyes and sat before the vanity mirror, applying concealer and powder.
She was going to the police station.
The car accident couldn’t just be left unresolved. The losses Wan Yu had suffered, her own injuries, and those of Zhou Yan—all of it demanded an explanation. She wouldn’t let Jiang Qimeng dictate the narrative.
Just as she finished breakfast and was about to drive to the police station, she found a driver standing at her door.
The butler explained, "Director Si sent him over early this morning to be your driver from now on."
"No need, I can drive myself," Jian Xi refused decisively.
However, the driver got into the car before she could.
Jian Xi’s eyes widened.
The driver gave a helpless, wry smile and explained, "Madam, please don’t make things difficult for a humble worker like me. Director Si said that if you don’t accept my services, I’ll be fired immediately. I have elderly parents to support and young children to feed..."
Jian Xi was speechless. Why are Si Yuhan’s people as shameless as he is?
The butler coughed and whispered in Jian Xi’s ear, "It’s free for you to use, and your husband is paying. You might as well enjoy it. Why not?"
That’s true!
"Fine then," Jian Xi got into the car.
The driver beamed. "Where to, Madam?"
"The police station."
Jian Xi stared at him intently. The driver, however, didn’t even pause for a moment before responding, "Alright, please sit tight."
Huh? Jian Xi was baffled. Could Si Yuhan really be so kind as to just send me a driver? Is he definitely not trying to monitor my every move?
After several probing attempts on the way, Jian Xi seriously suspected that Si Yuhan’s brain wasn’t working right.
After all I’ve done to him, he still sent me a driver! Has he lost his mind?
I always felt he harbored some subtle feelings for me. Could one really develop feelings just by sharing a bed? If so, then men truly are creatures that think with their lower bodies. He doesn’t seem to love Jiang Qimeng as much as he did in our past life.
"Madam, from now on, if you have any instructions, just let me know. Assistant Yan said that you’re not feeling well and need someone to look after you."
When Jian Xi alighted from the car, she agreed readily.
Now, all she wanted was to see Xiaozhang.
After a ten-minute wait, separated by an iron fence, Jian Xi saw the once arrogant and fawning Xiaozhang.
In just one short night, her time in there seemed to have aged her ten years. What should have been the vibrant life of a twenty-five-year-old now exuded a haggard, aged, and deathly aura. Her hair was disheveled, she wore a yellow vest, and her wrists and ankles were shackled with heavy iron chains that had rubbed her skin raw, leaving faint red marks.
"What, Miss Jian? Have you come to laugh at my misfortune?" She looked up, her eyes bloodshot.
She probably hasn’t slept all night, Jian Xi guessed. Someone who willingly turned herself in should have let go of everything. How could she be in such a state of resentment?
"Jiang Qimeng was the one who wanted to teach my brother a lesson, not you, right?" Jian Xi asked bluntly, not beating around the bush.
Xiaozhang was stunned.
"With your flimsy frame, you think you could seduce Si Junyan? You probably wouldn’t even dare to dream of it. Isn’t this the story Jiang Qimeng forced on you so she could get herself out of trouble?"
Xiaozhang’s lips trembled. Remembering something, she suddenly barked, "Jian Xi! What exactly do you want? I’ve already said it was me who did all these foolish things! I fell in love with Young Master Junyan! It was all me! I’m already in jail and will soon be sentenced. What more could you possibly want!"
"Nothing much. That was a good performance, very loyal. I just wonder if Jiang Qimeng will keep her word and make you willing to stay locked up in here."
"What do you know?" Xiaozhang immediately became alert.
Jian Xi curled her lips into a smile and pulled out a photo.
It was her father.
She had asked Chu Xiao to search all night, but unfortunately, the man had already been moved, leaving only this photo behind. Jian Xi was just trying her luck and hadn’t expected it to actually work.
She pressed her advantage. "I know Jiang Qimeng is using your father to threaten you, forcing you to take the fall for her. If I were you, I’d spill all her dirty secrets. You might even make some money from the exposé. At worst, you just quit this line of work, take your dad, and flee the country to live a carefree life. Why don’t you consider my suggestion? If I’m in a good mood, I might overlook your past arrogance, let bygones be bygones, and even give you some money."
Xiaozhang was visibly moved.
Jian Xi excitedly and discreetly adjusted the recording pen she had prepared, having already pressed the record button. Unexpectedly, the door swung open, and a police officer outside said, "9522, your boss Jiang Qimeng is here to see you too."
Xiaozhang immediately fell silent.
Damn it! Jian Xi was furious.
At that moment, Jiang Qimeng walked in. She was now a famous celebrity, dressed discreetly, a pair of black sunglasses obscuring half her face.
After entering, she gave Jian Xi a slight smile, then her gaze fell on Xiaozhang. "I’ve come to see you."
"Sister Meng..." Xiaozhang’s eyes instantly reddened, on the verge of tears.
Jian Xi massaged her forehead. What impeccable timing.
It seems I miscalculated—the driver wasn’t Si Yuhan’s man, but Jiang Qimeng’s!
"Miss Jian is here too. What a coincidence," Jiang Qimeng said.
A coincidence? You call this a coincidence? I arrive, and you just happen to arrive too. Could there be anything more coincidental?
"She did work for me for two years, after all," Jiang Qimeng continued. "I wanted to check on her, especially since I’ve looked after her family for so long."
Jiang Qimeng’s words were beautifully phrased. Jian Xi clenched the recording pen tighter, realizing it would be useless with Jiang Qimeng present.
"Jiang Qimeng, what kind of skill is it to exploit a young girl like this?"
How utterly shameless! Jian Xi inwardly despised her despicable behavior. In this regard, I’m leagues behind her. She can use someone as a scapegoat without even blinking.
Jiang Qimeng innocently asked Xiaozhang, "Sister here has never treated you unfairly, has she?"
"Of course not!" Her father is still in Jiang Qimeng’s hands. Xiaozhang had grievances she couldn’t voice, so she could only vent her anger on Jian Xi to demonstrate her loyalty. "Jian Xi, stop slandering Sister Meng! A vicious woman like you will never win Director Si’s affection!"
She shot up with a bang, her hands gripping the iron bars, snarling like a rabid dog.
The police officers behind her restrained her. "Quiet down!"
Xiaozhang wailed, her cries heart-wrenching.
Jian Xi taunted with a chuckle, "Even if I can’t win his heart, I can have his body. Your Sister Meng knows very well how energetic he is when we’re rolling in the hay together."
Yan Qing, who had just entered, heard this and stumbled, nearly falling.
Seeing a familiar face enter, Jian Xi blushed.
"Madam, the Boss asked me to tell you to come home. He said the Old Master has arrived."
Tsk! They’ve even gotten Grandfather involved! That bastard Si Yuhan must be scheming something against me, Jian Xi thought, wanting to refuse.
Yan Qing added, "The Old Master is waiting for you for lunch."
Jiang Qimeng eagerly asked, "Can I go too?"
