Chapter 130: Chapter 65 You Disappoint Me_2

Sang Wan felt a bitter sourness in her heart, with overwhelming humiliation and shame. She had always thought he was different, but now she realized it was all her misunderstanding.

Could I still trust you? Sang Wan didn’t ask; she had already answered that question in her heart.

"What if the one causing me distress is her?" Sang Wan, not knowing why, asked this question.

Shi Fengju was taken aback, then soon replied earnestly, "She would never! Even if it was her, it shouldn’t be."

Sang Wan disregarded his words, and with a regained composure smiled, "Congratulations, young master! Your long-held wish has finally been fulfilled. It is truly a joyous occasion!"

Shi Fengju managed a bitter smile, as he had never heard her speak with such a mocking tone before. Yet, now it only added to his guilt and remorse.

"She has just entered, everything else remains as before," Shi Fengju couldn’t help but explain.

Sang Wan, however, lost any further interest in listening and gracefully stood up with a smile, "The luggage you brought back has been placed in the study by people I asked for. Mrs. Li personally oversaw them being moved in. We were not sure about the contents and dared not tamper with them. The young master can sort them out later by himself. Oh, and if the young master would like anything special for dinner, it would be good to say it now so I can instruct the kitchen to prepare it in advance. If not, shall we proceed with your usual preferences? You must be tired by now, you should rest a bit! There seem to be matters outside as well; Xingzhi has been glancing this way several times!"

Shi Fengju was momentarily stunned.

He thought uncontrollably: Could it be that changing faces is an intrinsic skill of women? Fangzi has changed in ways I fail to recognize, and Miss Wan too!

"Oh, well, you go ahead then! I’ll head to the study! As for dinner, prepare whatever you like, I don’t mind," said Sang Wan, exuding an aura Shi Fengju had never seen before. Though unfamiliar, his innate business intuition warned him that it was best to not provoke her anymore and keep his distance.

"Alright, I understand," Sang Wan said lightly.

Shi Fengju smiled weakly and almost fled the scene.

At dinner time, Shi Fengju knew he should have returned to Ningyuan early to accompany Sang Wan, but he lacked the courage to face her, unconsciously feeling unfit to confront her. In the end, he made up an excuse about needing to work, eating in the study and telling Sang Wan not to wait for him.

Sang Wan couldn’t wish for more, and without a second thought, she instructed the kitchen to send over the dishes prepared for him and enjoyed her meal leisurely and tastefully.

After dinner, Shi Fengju had someone send over a set of the latest published travel notes from the capital, claiming it was specifically bought for Sang Wan. Sang Wan thanked the servant and took them, but wasn’t in the mood to browse through them and just asked to put them aside for later.

The atmosphere in Ningyuan suddenly became strange. No one could pinpoint exactly why, but something was indefinably odd. Everyone was too normal, especially the young master and the primary wife, their unusual normality causing an inexplicable tightening of the heart.

"Primary wife, you see the young master still cares for you!" Mrs. Li encouraged with a smile: "Look, the young master keeps in mind everything you like! You should also take more consideration for the young master since he’s just returned. Why don’t you send these grapes to the study? Go have a chat with him! These are fresh from the manor today!"

"Madam, please send Liu Ya or Xingzhi, it doesn’t matter which. Or you could go yourself! I’m feeling a bit tired today and would like to sleep early!"

Normally, Sang Wan would never defy Mrs. Li’s wishes, even if coaxing and mildly disobeying Mrs. Wang in subtle ways, but today, she suddenly felt disinterested, as if the things she once deemed important were not so critical after all!

Mrs. Li, taken aback, sighed internally but showed no anger. Instead, she felt a touch of pity. In her view, the primary wife was perfect in every aspect and beyond reproach—perfection incarnate, but that very perfection lacked a genuine human touch, the warm sparks of everyday life. Without that, she seemed no different than a cold, lifeless clay Bodhisattva in the temple. At this moment, her oddly petulant demeanor actually made her seem more approachable and endearing.

One wonders what expression Sang Wan would make if she knew Mrs. Li’s thoughts about her.

"Primary wife," Mrs. Li, handing her a steaming cup of tea with a smile, persuaded, "I know you’re upset, but perhaps you’re not seeing this situation in the best light!"

Sang Wan, amused by her words, asked half-jokingly, half-seriously, "Oh? And how should I view it to see it in a positive light, Madam?"

Mrs. Li then responded with a smile, "Just think about it, her eagerness to enter the household actually puts her in a less favorable position than before. That’s certainly not a bad thing!"

Mrs. Li continued, recounting what she had said at Mrs. Wang’s earlier and her instructions at the peony garden today, and scoffed, "I know exactly what that little vixen is plotting! In the end, isn’t she just afraid that after mourning for three years at home, the young master might not want her? That’s why she is so eager to come inside. Just wait and see, primary wife! The restrictions and taboos for a woman in mourning are numerous. Once she arrives, watch how I’ll handle her! I promise that after three years, she’ll be so well-mannered and transformed she won’t dare to jump around anymore!"

Sang Wan suddenly didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. She and Mrs. Li truly were not on the same page! What she worried about was not this, but she found it challenging to explain it to Mrs. Li directly.

However, why did her mood somewhat lift after listening to Mrs. Li speak?
