Chapter 228: Chapter 199: Such Great Resentment_3
Additionally, as long as Li Si isn’t married, he believes he still has a chance. Since opportunities are equal for everyone, why can’t he try again?
"Li Si, I... I fell for you the first time I saw you! Even though you have a boyfriend now, could you not reject my kindness to you? Let me be your close confidant, alright?"
When said like this, others might think having one more person treating you well isn’t a bad idea.
But not Li Si. She had decided on Leng Mochen in this lifetime, and there was no place for a close male confidant by her side.
A close male confidant—it might sound nice, but only if she agreed to it.
"Sorry, class rep, I love my boyfriend very much. I’m not interested in your proposal. Could you leave yourself a little pride? Xiao Le and I are leaving now!"
With that, Li Si pulled Liu Xiaole along, bypassing Xu Yi and heading out of campus. Xu Yi stood there, staring blankly at her retreating figure, his eyes filled with hurt. How could she be so cold and heartless?
"Oh! Class rep, what are you doing here?" Ling Wei smirked meaningfully as her eyes followed Li Si’s retreating silhouette, teasing Xu Yi.
She had just witnessed that scene and understood everything. She couldn’t believe the class rep actually had feelings for Li Si—what a perfect opportunity this was. If she could let Li Si’s boyfriend know, perhaps it would cause tension between them and even lead to a breakup.
That would give her a chance, wouldn’t it? After all, Wang Zhe had already broken up with her. Just thinking about Wang Zhe made her burn with resentment. Who would’ve thought the man could be so petty that he’d demand back the gifts he’d given her after their breakup?
Fine, take them back. If she really ended up with that Leng Bing, what did these things even matter?
"Ling Wei, why are you here?" Xu Wei quickly adjusted his expression and calmly countered. He could sense Ling Wei’s hostility toward Li Si. Although it was inexplicable, a person’s eyes never lie.
"Class rep, really, what’s so wrong with liking someone? A fair lady is to be pursued by a gentleman—there’s nothing wrong with that. The problem is that your method of pursuit is all wrong!"
Ling Wei’s eyes did a quick turn, and she thought of a brilliant idea. It could mess up Li Si’s life, annoy her, and achieve her own ends—truly killing two birds with one stone!
"So, what method do you suggest?" Xu Yi eyed her warily, knowing she might have ulterior motives, but he was still curious to hear this so-called method of hers.
In all his years, this was the first time he’d fallen for a girl. Despite his usually mature and steady demeanor, when it came to pursuing a girl, he was childishly clueless.
"Girls are all thin-skinned! If you confessed to her in front of Liu Xiaole, there’s no way she’d say yes! Plus, everyone knows Li Si has a boyfriend. Even if she likes you, she wouldn’t dare say so in public.
Also, confessions need to happen in romantic settings with the right atmosphere. The two of us standing around here? It’s utterly unromantic!
And haven’t you heard? Persistent guys win the girl in the end. Class rep, you just need to show up in Li Si’s life more often, let her get used to your presence. Then one day, when you suddenly disappear, the emotional gap might just make her fall for you!"
Xu Yi nodded. The first part of her suggestion seemed reasonable, but when he heard the latter part, to be honest, he thought it wasn’t great. After all, he’d already blocked Li Si twice, and each time, she’d become increasingly annoyed with him.
But he still said: "Ling Wei, your method is good. I’ll give it a try! I’ve got something to do, so I’ll leave now. Thanks! Bye!"
"Class rep, no need to be polite! I also hope you two can get together! Then our class will have another couple to talk about!"
...
Since it was the latter half of their junior year, there weren’t many classes left at school, so Li Si had plenty of free time to do this and that.
When she wasn’t on campus, she now spent most of her time wandering between Simeng and Mo Si.
Today, she was in Leng Mochen’s office, keeping him company while he worked. The efficiency of his work was astonishing; he’d already finished reviewing half a tall stack of documents.
Li Si lay on the sofa, reading a novel on her phone. She really missed the smartphones of the future. The tiny screen of her color-display phone felt ridiculously small, and the repetitive clicking of its buttons was making her fingers sore.
On top of that, the GPRS network wasn’t helping either—sometimes it took two refreshes just to load a single page.
"Knock, knock, knock!"
"Come in!"
Du Xue entered with complicated thoughts, bringing in a cup of coffee and a glass of milk as per her earlier instructions. She saw the boss reviewing documents while Li Si lounged on the sofa, playing on her phone leisurely. Annoyance bubbled up inside her. What was so great about this girl? What made her special enough to catch Mr. Leng’s eye and get engaged to him? It was simply unfair!
Li Si noticed the subtle resentment in Secretary Du’s gaze and couldn’t help but chuckle softly. Why did it feel like she was the guilty party here?
"Secretary Du, the coffee is mine!" She watched as Du Xue placed the coffee on Leng Mochen’s desk and headed toward her with the milk.
Du Xue froze slightly, her expression stiffening for a moment. What was going on? The milk wasn’t for Li Si? She’d just been ridiculing her in her mind, thinking that calling her childish was an understatement—how old was she, and she still hadn’t weaned off milk?
That thought passed swiftly through her mind as she maintained her elegant demeanor. She gently placed the glass of milk in front of Leng Mochen. "Mr. Leng, please enjoy."
Then, she brought the coffee to Li Si. "Enjoy."
But inwardly, her complaints ramped up even more.
Leng Mochen shot her a long, penetrating look. "Secretary Du, you can leave now."
Secretary Du kept a polite smile on her face despite her wounded pride and quietly exited. Li Si took a sip of her coffee, her eyes sparkling with amusement as she looked at Leng Mochen. "What a huge heap of frustration!"
Leng Mochen raised an eyebrow. "Talking about yourself?"
"Of course not! I was talking about Secretary Du. Did you see that double standard just now?" She imitated Secretary Du’s tone: "To you, she said, ’Mr. Leng, please enjoy!’ dripping like honey. When it came to me, all I got was a dry ’Enjoy.’!"
"I’m picking up a lot of jealousy in the air," he remarked, looking at her with a teasing smirk. Secretary Du’s words had barely registered in his ears, but hearing them repeated in Li Si’s playful tone gave him an inexplicable thrill. Especially as she lounged on the sofa in that tempting pose, her long legs encased in those shorts, her chest rising and falling—it was driving him to distraction.
