Chapter 56: Final Exam Day!

Chapter 56: Final Exam Day!

Shortly after, Aurora joined Tina in the dining room.

The room feels chilly even though the house has a sophisticated central heater.

Her eyes landed on Alex’s empty chair. While she didn’t mind his absence, Tina asked her nearly every day why Alex never returned home.

Each time Tina asked, Aurora replied with a random answer, and at times, she even found herself lying to Tina. This made her feel even more regretful.

"Young Miss, please hurry and finish your breakfast. You don’t have much time," Tina reminded her, noticing that Aurora was lost in thought and eating too slowly.

Aurora smiled as she continued to eat her sandwich and sip her coffee.

She wanted to enjoy her breakfast, but strangely, the thought of Alex still preoccupied her mind.

’Should I check his schedule? Is it okay if I do that?’ she wondered.

It was easy for her to find his schedule or present location. Still, her previous life’s feelings toward Alex always held her even though she realized how irrational that was.

Shaking her head lightly, she tried to push thoughts of Alex away while focusing on finishing her breakfast.

"Ma’am, is Master Alex still on a business trip?" Tina’s question jolted Aurora from her thoughts.

Aurora sighed inwardly, taking her time to respond as she finished her coffee.

"Hmm, that’s what he told me last night."

"Did you ask when he would return?" Tina asked.

"I forgot to ask him, Aunty. I haven’t talked to him much lately; he knows I would be busy studying." Her response remained unchanged—making excuses and lying when necessary.

She began to feel uneasy about it but had no choice; otherwise, Tina might suspect that her marriage to Alex was not real.

Tina laughed, saying, "Oh my goodness, how did I forget that? Your husband was sweaty and so understanding!" She giggled, but Aurora felt even worse seeing the brightness in her eyes.

...

Aurora didn’t want to stay there any longer—she felt exhausted from lying to Tina.

After finishing her breakfast, she left the house.

In the front yard, she found Josh waiting for her by the car they usually used.

They took the cheapest vehicle from Alex’s garage. It was the same model as her old car, but this time, the only difference was the color.

Aurora felt much more excited than before as she headed to Arcadia University.

Josh, who witnessed that, couldn’t help but express his curiosity.

"Aurora, did something good happen? Why do you look so happy?" Josh casually asked as the car passed through the gate.

Aurora smiled and turned to Josh, grateful he had finally dropped the formality in their conversations. He had started calling her "Aurora" when they talked outside the house.

His relaxed attitude made their interactions feel much more natural, almost like those of friends.

Sometimes, while speaking with Josh, Aurora nearly forgot that she was no longer Aurora Moon but Spencer.

Considering their closeness, she wanted to be honest with him but worried about doing so.

She turned to see him before responding to his words.

"Of course, I’m happy today! This is our last day of exams, and we won’t have to return there anymore," she said.

Josh nodded in agreement with Aurora.

"You’re right. I should be happy, too. I’m finally free after all that torture of pretending to be kids..." He sighed deeply, focusing his gaze on the street ahead.

"You are free, Josh. We won’t go back there unless it’s for graduation," she said, taking in the beautiful autumn scenery.

After a few minutes of silence, Josh finally spoke up.

"What are you doing tomorrow? Do you have any plans? If so, I need to make arrangements..." His question pulled Aurora out of her thoughts.

"I plan to visit my hometown, Opal City," she replied calmly, though her answer surprised Josh.

"Opal City? Why are you suddenly flying there?" he asked, curious about her decision to travel to another province.

Aurora turned her gaze away from Josh, feeling guilty about having to lie to him and the people around her.

"My mother’s birthday is in two days, and I want to visit her grave and see my father, too," Aurora answered softly, deepening the impact of her words on Josh.

In truth, Aurora hadn’t planned to visit Opal City anytime soon; she didn’t even remember the date. It was Tina who reminded her this morning.

Because of this reminder, Aurora decided to change her plans. She felt a growing curiosity about what had really happened in that city.

From what she remembered about the Spencer family, they were pretty wealthy.

Still, she couldn’t understand why her father didn’t want her to return to Opal City. Was that the reason he forced her to marry Alex? She needs to know all of that.

Josh glanced at Aurora and noticed her pensive expression. He felt terrible for bringing up the topic earlier.

"Aurora, I apologize if I reminded you of them," he said softly, returning to the street ahead.

After a moment, he added, "I’ll book your plane ticket and go with you."

"No need, Josh. I can order it myself..." She wanted to avoid involving Alex.

Josh frowned and replied, "Aurora, you know I must follow you there, right?"

"Of course! Even if I try to stop you from coming with me, you’ll still insist, won’t you?" Aurora chuckled when she saw him nod.

"But you don’t have to book my ticket, Josh. I’ll take care of it..."

"Sorry, Aurora. It’s my job to follow you wherever you go," Josh replied softly.

"Are you sure you don’t want me to order it? If you’re worried about me using my money, I won’t. I have a card from your husband that I can use for your expenses." He added.

Aurora was taken aback by his words.

’Geez, Alex! How could you give him your card and not me?’ she thought, frustrated as she waited for him to transfer her father’s money.

Until today, she had never seen that money in her bank account. She waited for him to return home so she could ask him about it directly, but he never showed up. He didn’t even text her.

She felt frustrated but was too lazy to reach out first, fearing he might think she had feelings for him or was needy and clingy.

"It’s okay, Josh. The airfare is cheap, and I’ll bring Aunty Tina along to fly there," she said.

"Okay... But please accept any arrangements I set for you in Opal City. It’s part of my responsibility to prepare your accommodation, personnel guard, and proper vehicle there..." he urged.

Aurora simply nodded in agreement.
