Chapter 50: Undercover

David was surprised to hear that. He glanced at Josh in disbelief.

"Is he crazy to transfer to our department just a few days before our final exam?"

"I don’t know. Maybe he studies online..." Aurora responded nonchalantly.

She considered speaking loudly so Josh could follow the story she had crafted for him.

"No way! Why have I never heard about that program?" David asked, his expression reflecting his doubts.

"Why do you ask me, David? You should ask him. Ah, I forgot to mention that his name is Josh!" Aurora replied, quickening her pace and leaving David stunned in his spot.

When Aurora and Josh arrived in the small classroom, most of their classmates were already seated.

Everyone immediately turned to look at them, this time not gossiping about Aurora but rather about the man walking beside her.

Aurora heard snippets of their amusing conversation, which made her stifle a laugh as she walked toward the back seat.

"Wow! Who is that handsome man? Is he a new student?"

"No way! He looks just like Keanu Reeves in Speed!"

"You’re right! The only difference is that his skin is a bit tanned."

"I can’t believe it! Why do such handsome and intelligent guys always surround Aurora in our class?"

"Yeah, I envy her. She has David, who follows her everywhere, and now this Keanu Reeves look-alike!"

"Don’t forget, Max!"

"Max? He was left out, for sure. That bold Aurora had a crush on him, but he never liked her..."

"Ah, you’re right... Max didn’t like her."

"Exactly! Max didn’t care about Aurora. He even rejected her harshly in the cafeteria a few days ago."

"I saw that! It was awful. I watched Aurora walk away in tears after Max rejected her."

All the chatter abruptly ceased when the lecturer finally entered the classroom.

Aurora smiled upon hearing her classmates admire Josh’s handsome face; he was a gorgeous young man.

However, when she heard the comments about Max’s rejection, anger bubbled up inside her again.

She wanted to clarify things with them but decided against it when she remembered that it wasn’t she who had a crush on Max; it was Aurora Spencer.

Besides, she wouldn’t see them again. After their final exam, she would never return to this place. The best option for her was to ignore them all.

She not only ignored her classmates but also the lecturer.

Unbeknownst to her, her gaze fell on Max, who was still sitting in his usual spot.

After a few seconds of staring at him, he suddenly turned and looked in her direction. She was surprised, but only for a moment.

Aurora smiled at him, but he only responded with a sour expression. She couldn’t help but chuckle inwardly.

’My goodness, Maxi, you look so cute when you’re angry like that. Oh, right, I met your big bro...’ she spoke in her mind before turning her gaze back to her empty notebook on the table.

Suddenly, something crossed her mind. She looked at Max again and noticed he no longer stared at her.

’Maxi, did you know that I’ve already passed away? Did Danny tell you about it?!’

...

Not long after, the class finally ended. Aurora hadn’t paid full attention to the lecturer’s earlier explanations, planning to wait for David to fill her in later.

After class, Aurora and Josh hurried to leave, trying to avoid their female classmates, who were eager to get to know Josh better.

Poor Josh! Even though he shot them an annoyed glance, the female students continued approaching him.

"Josh, you’re really popular with those girls! Alex is right; changing your hairstyle gives you a youthful vibe," Aurora whispered once they finally managed to escape from Josh’s new admirers.

Josh’s expression instantly became even grimmer upon hearing that.

"Ma’am, please don’t tease me, and don’t mention this to anyone—especially not Martin or Alvin," Josh replied in a hushed tone.

He found this undercover job quite challenging, not because of the threat to Aurora, but because he had to avoid the female students.

"Martin and Alvin?" Aurora asked, surprise flashing in her eyes. She pretended not to know about it.

Aurora was aware that Alvin and Martin were good friends with Josh. They would surely tease Josh if they knew what had happened here.

"Yeah, they’ll use this to make fun of me," Josh replied, glancing back. He gritted his teeth as he noticed a few girls still chasing them. A couple of them even tried to take pictures of him.

"No worries. I won’t tell them if you stop acting like my guard. My friend will find out who you really are," Aurora expressed concern after they finally walked out of their faculty building.

Josh glanced at her with a frown. "What do you mean, ma’am? Was my acting really that poor?"

"Hmm, you need to smile more. You look older with that stern expression. And can you stop calling me ma’am? Geez, why did you forget again?"

Aurora sighed but smiled when she saw his comical, panicked expression.

Josh awkwardly smiled at her before his stiff expression returned. He felt exhausted. He would prefer to fight against bad people rather than smile at others or, worse, at the girl.

"That’s better, Josh," Aurora smiled back at him. However, her smile faded when David’s voice echoed from behind.

"Aurora, wait..."

David’s voice halted Aurora’s steps. She turned back only to see David running after her. "Yes, David?"

"I will drive you home. Let’s go," David said as he stopped in front of Aurora, ignoring Josh, who shot him a sharp glare.

"David, thank you, but there’s no need," Aurora replied, continuing to walk with Josh closely behind her.

"Aurora, come on—"

"Stop following us!" Josh’s heavy, angry voice sent a shiver down David’s spine, but the shameless David continued to ignore him.

Unable to hold back any longer, Josh lightly pushed David. But his gentle push was enough to cause David to stumble and come close to kissing the ground.
