Chapter 562: Chapter 542: An Idea

"Huh? Was this assignment mentioned last week?" Luo Qianqian looked utterly confused. "I’m doomed, I completely forgot about it..."

"No worries, just make it up later. Many people forgot; after all, it is the first assignment since starting college." Elvis smiled, though he wasn’t one of those who forgot.

"Man, there’s so much going on lately. Is the assignment lengthy?" Luo Qianqian pouted, her eyes pleading as she looked at Elvis.

Elvis reached out as if to ruffle her hair but stopped mid-air, picked up a book from the table, opened it, and looked forward. "If it’s you, it should only take thirty minutes to handle."

Luo Qianqian pouted. If it was her? Did he mean it would only take ten minutes for others?

Disliking her dawdling was one thing, but to be so direct about it?

The next moment, Elvis frowned, fished out his vibrating phone from his pocket, glanced at the caller ID, bent down, and addressed Luo Qianqian, "Keep an eye on the teacher."

Luo Qianqian nodded, understanding he meant to watch the teacher currently lecturing. Elvis answered the call, spoke softly in response, then said something unknown and hung up and stood up.

"What’s wrong?" Although Luo Qianqian wasn’t particularly close to Elvis, she was undeniably one of the few significant people in this class; her concern, after all, was for a friend.

"In a bit, Xi Ming will join us." Elvis’s eyes were fixed on the front as if intently listening to the lecture, only his lips moved slightly, "Is that alright?"

Luo Qianqian’s eyes sparkled at the mention, right, there’s also that person, a likely ally.

"Yeah, the more, the merrier," Luo Qianqian immediately responded.

At this moment, she wouldn’t refuse anyone who could be of help, especially when the full situation was unknown...

Elvis just nodded and didn’t add anything more.

After class, Luo Qianqian sat obediently at her seat, waiting for the next class and tentatively studying the assignment, while Elvis left the classroom saying he was going to buy water.

Class was about to start, and he hadn’t returned. Luo Qianqian slightly furrowed her brows, took out her cellphone, and saw a message that she hadn’t noticed arriving.

Qin Nuan: "Cao Yingying came back this morning to give gifts. She said that Xiu Ran had already sought her out, telling her not to meddle no matter what happens."

Luo Qianqian looked puzzled. If it weren’t for the fact that only those who knew her well had her number, she would have thought it might be a prank.

She quickly replied: "Xiu Ran said that? She anticipated this?"

Soon after, Qin Nuan sent another message: "You could say she had long anticipated it."

Then, several more messages followed:

"The initial move on the dorm was done just so that we would notice."

"The person only asked her to tamper with your food. If she hadn’t done those unnecessary acts, she probably would have succeeded earlier."

"This is what Xiu Ran and Cao Yingying discussed; whether it’s true or not, I don’t know."

Luo Qianqian was stunned; if they had not conducted those direct acts initially, she definitely couldn’t have escaped. After all, she had trusted everyone in the dorm back then entirely.

If we talk about it, if it was deliberately done to keep us on guard, then it all kind of makes sense now.

Luo Qianqian put down her phone, her face slumped on the desk, her hands limply hanging in the air. Their suspicions were actually a deliberate act by others to be detected?

"What’s wrong?" Elvis’s voice rang out, and upon seeing him return, Luo Qianqian quickly got up to let Elvis in, only to show her exhausted face.

"Tell me, why would a criminal want their victim to notice and start suspecting them?" She looked at Elvis, confused. It wasn’t supposed to be like that from the start, was it?

"Why?" Elvis didn’t press further but looked at Luo Qianqian with a serious face, resting his chin on his hands. "Could it be because she never intended to harm the victim, but did it due to some unspeakable reason?"

Unspeakable reasons? Apart from Cao Yingying being a loner, everyone else in the dorm got along very well. Was there anything they couldn’t discuss together?

"Think about it carefully."

She tried thinking carefully but came up with nothing...

Wait, it started with money!

"Lacking money?" Luo Qianqian frowned. "She could have just said so, right?"

Not to mention Cong Rong, even Qhianqhian and Wen Qin alone in the dorm had some savings, right? Even though her family had previously encountered problems, it didn’t mean she was left with nothing, as a thin camel is still bigger than a horse.

"What if she couldn’t speak it aloud?" Elvis advised Luo Qianqian earnestly.

Luo Qianqian, for some reason, thought of the letters in the dorm before that, and the matter of soliciting donations. But she immediately shook her head. What could that have to do with Xiu Ran?

It must be related somehow because before that there were absolutely no anomalies. Luo Qianqian subconsciously took out her phone and sent a message to Qin Nuan: Where is Xiu Ran’s hometown?

It took a long time, so long that Luo Qianqian thought she wouldn’t reply, but Qin Nuan finally responded: It seems quite remote, but she doesn’t go home during summer and winter breaks. Instead, she works part-time at a restaurant, which includes food and accommodation. I heard it’s to earn living expenses for the next semester.

"No way? A roommate for a year and you didn’t know this?" Luo Qianqian muttered, her face full of disbelief.

However, she knew very well that if Qin Nuan didn’t know, it wasn’t because she didn’t care about her; because if she had been told about it, she would have remembered and categorized it according to what type of food it related to.

That meant, Xiu Ran had never mentioned it!

Then what’s the connection with that place that sent big-faced letters asking for donations?

"I need to skip class!" Luo Qianqian stood up, her face set determinedly as she looked at Elvis. She had to go to the library!

"I admire your courage, go ahead." Before Elvis could respond, a voice rang out. Luo Qianqian belatedly looked up to see Yue Xiluo, dressed in a suit, standing in front of the blackboard, her mouth opening wide in embarrassment. When had the teacher arrived?

Of course, it was while your thoughts were wandering off into outer space.

"I like such a spirited student, daring to raise your own views." Yue Xiluo, as if afraid that Luo Qianqian might think he was joking, waved his hand: "A child should act on their thoughts, that’s what youth is, regardless of the consequences."

"Then, teacher, I want to skip class too." Elvis immediately raised his hand.

"Go, go, you’re young." Yue Xiluo said with a laugh, shaking his head as he looked around at the packed classroom: "Those who have partners and haven’t bought a gift, and those without who plan to find someone to spend the holiday with, everyone go. Those who stay, I’ll help you with your homework."

Luo Qianqian was speechless. Is this really how a teacher acts?

She still nodded, however, bending over to bow respectfully: "Thank you."

After she said this, she grabbed her bag and dashed out, followed by Elvis, who winked at the people in front as he left.

Once out of the classroom, Luo Qianqian immediately took out her phone and sent a message to Wen Qin, giving her location.

Since she was skipping class anyway, she might as well head to the residential area across from the school, where Wen Qin lived.

Elvis caught up with her: "Did you think of something?"

Luo Qianqian nodded: "I just hope I’m not wrong."

If such a background indeed shaped a person, it made no sense for Wen Qin to get along with her, unless she truly was ’a lotus unblemished by mud.’
