Chapter 38: Chapter 38: The Disappearance of Luo Qianqian (Part 2)
Where am I? Luo Qianqian slowly came to her senses and stared at the darkness surrounding her, feeling a bit stunned, yet wisely she made no sound. She remembered that she had been drugged and taken away by three strong guys. Looking at her current surroundings, was she possibly in the trunk of a car?
Carefully observing her surroundings, the space was narrow and dark, and there was that gasoline smell she hated, confirming without a doubt it was a car’s trunk. Then what was the purpose of these people? If it was a kidnapping, shouldn’t they target a child from a wealthy family? To abduct and sell her as a child bride to the Deep Mountain? Even then, shouldn’t they pick someone prettier who could fetch a good price? Capturing her, so dark-skinned and opinionated, wasn’t that asking for trouble? But then, which five-year-old wanders the streets alone? There might be a chance it just happened coincidentally. But it couldn’t be for organ trafficking, could it? Although her organs were healthy and vibrant, her body was so small, even if they were transplanted into someone else, it wouldn’t necessarily work, right? So, was it revenge?
Luo Qianqian suddenly remembered those two capable-looking women at the police station, could it be that they were holding a grudge and seeking revenge?
In this era, owning a car was rare; who would go through so much trouble and have the capacity to do so if they weren’t harboring some grudge against her, aside from the "Rainbow-colored hair boy" incident, there was no other.
"Third brother is so slow. Just buying cigarettes and taking a dump takes him ten minutes; is he constipated?" a man’s voice fiercely reached her ears, followed by the sound of a car door opening and closing near Luo Qianqian.
"Big brother, I just don’t get it. Why did Boss make us kidnap this little girl? She’s all skin and bones, dark as night; surely he doesn’t have a thing for kids, right?" another car door sounds came from the other side.
"Don’t ask what you shouldn’t. Boss has his reasons for doing this; we, as his underlings, just need to obey his commands without question; knowing too much might endanger our lives," the first man’s voice came through again.
"Oh, but brother, what if the kid suffocates?"
"Go check if the kid is awake. If not, open it up for a while to air it out. Boss did say to bring her back, but he never mentioned needing a body," another voice responded.
Hearing this, Luo Qianqian quickly closed her eyes, smeared some saliva on her face, and half-opened her mouth, mimicking one of the strange sleeping poses her mother had photographed her in before.
"She’s still asleep," the younger voice’s owner opened the trunk, and Luo Qianqian was greeted by bright light, but for safety’s sake, she didn’t open her eyes to look around, only pretending to be soundly asleep.
"Lower your voice, you idiot. If the sunlight wakes her up and she starts screaming and fussing, you can be the one to soothe her," a slap sound followed, then the brightness diminished considerably. Accompanied by the young voice’s apology, Luo Qianqian silently squinted. The trunk lid was propped up less than a fist-sized gap with something bunched up, possibly clothing or a rag, preventing the door from fully closing. Through the gap, Luo Qianqian saw the exterior seemed to be a gas station, indicating someone had probably stopped to shop, thus temporarily halting the vehicle. Careful listening to the nearby road suggested heavy traffic.
Gas station, shop, a lot of cars... Was this location a highway rest stop or just a ordinary street? Luo Qianqian couldn’t tell. Considering the physical stature of those strong guys, even if she cried out to passersby for help, escaping would likely be impossible and could even lead to more suffering. She consequently abandoned the idea of escaping. For the moment, she seemed not in immediate danger, but as the outside sky reddened, it must be nearly evening. She wondered if her brother had noticed her absence and thought to report her missing to the police?
Regardless, she should leave some clue behind. If someone reported to the police and paid attention, she would have a better chance of being rescued.
Luo Qianqian felt around her body for a while and was pleasantly surprised to discover her small bag had not been taken, just the hat her brother gave her was missing.
With a pen and paper, leveraging the dim light, Luo Qianqian wrote down her name, height, gender, and the names of her brother and mother. To be safe, she also wrote He Jun’s name and his workplace’s address. She briefly described how she was taken and didn’t know what would happen and asked any kind-hearted person to call the police and notify her family. She avoided writing anything related to the kidnappers or anything she suspected. For safety, she used Pinyin for most parts except for names and addresses. Her crooked handwriting and incorrect Pinyin tones indicated her youth. She had written about three or four pages when she heard another voice:
"Boss, look what I bought, heh heh."
"What are you thinking about buying naughty books at a time like this? Confiscated!" The Boss’s voice followed by the sound of the car door closing.
"Boss, the trunk is still open."
"No need to lock it. Don’t suffocate her. A little kid can’t open it, especially now that she’s sleeping soundly. The dose I used is enough for an adult woman. Hurry up and get in the car, or if we miss dinner, I’ll freaking slaughter you."
Sounds of car doors opening and closing, the engine starting, and the car gradually moving, Luo Qianqian hurriedly wrote "SOS" in bold on the back of the first sheet and threw it from the car, hoping someone kind would see it. Unfortunately, she didn’t know the license plate number, which could have greatly increased her chances of being found.
The car drove smoothly, yet inside the moving vehicle, no matter how hard she tried, her writing still appeared crooked but looked even more like a child’s handwriting under the light.
Brother, Mom, Xiao Yu, godfathers and godmothers, have they noticed her disappearance yet? Would they be worried? As Luo Qianqian wrote, she felt sadness creeping in, tears swirling in her eyes. Why was it her who was taken and not someone else!!!
But soon, Luo Qianqian realized her brother was really only ten years old, and Xiao Yu was really only five. Only she wasn’t as young as she appeared, possessing experience beyond those two and the wisdom of an adult. Suddenly, she felt grateful; it was she and not her brother or Xiao Yu who was taken. Otherwise, informing anyone of her whereabouts would have been truly impossible.
Luo Qianqian held back her tears, feeling fortunate. It must have been because she was alone that they took her. Fortunately, when her brother wanted to come and exchange places with her, she disagreed, fearing he wouldn’t understand the investigation needed and she refused her brother. Fearing Xiao Yu couldn’t handle it alone, she also refused him. Fortunately, she had refused both. Otherwise, either of them might have panicked, enraging these burly guys, and ended up suffering physical torment. Fortunately, it was her and not her brother or Xiao Yu. Fortunately, it was her.
But, her brother, upon discovering her disappearance, would probably blame himself bitterly, regretting that he hadn’t taken her job. That’s just how her brother was, fierce in speech but internally, he truly only blamed himself. He must be berating himself now, perhaps even saying things like he’d make her "butt bloom."
Since they had targeted the three kids, it indicated that their godfathers and godmothers would receive the message. Although she didn’t know why she was kidnapped, she still feared her mother would be deeply upset. "I’m fine, Mom, so please don’t worry, okay?" Luo Qianqian dropped a sheet with "SOS" written on it, brought her hands together, closed her eyes, and silently prayed to the heavens.
