Chapter 639 - 622 Discharged from Hospital

Chapter 639: Chapter 622 Discharged from Hospital

Lu Jiaxin saw him looking energetic and said, "It’s too late today. We’ll handle your discharge tomorrow. Hospital beds are in short supply, so let’s not occupy public resources."

Although this is a high-class ward, people with connections can stay here. When the time comes, a regular ward will be freed up.

Lu Hongjun asked with concern, "Are you really okay?"

"Didn’t Shanzi tell you?"

Upon hearing this, Lu Hongjun wilted. Returning the house is a minor issue; losing the pension is truly a matter of life and death for him. Although his daughter has money, their relationship... the days ahead are likely to be hard.

Seeing his expression, Lu Jiaxin asked, "What, distressed over the pension and the house? If you’d known it would come to this, why act in the first place?"

Lu Hongjun hung his head without speaking. At times like this, saying anything is wrong; it’s better to listen quietly and get less scolding.

Lu Jiaxin was hungry, only wanting to eat and not argue. She checked her watch; it was half past six: "It’s getting late. We’re going out to eat, and we’ll be back in the morning to handle your discharge."

Lu Hongjun hoped for discharge too, not just to escape the daily smell of disinfectant but also because pretending to be confused was exhausting: "Jiaxin, after discharge, I want to live in Shichahai."

Lu Jiaxin refused: "The Shichahai is under my name, but Aunt bought the house and paid for the renovations. She’s living there now, so you can’t move in."

Lu Hongjun said, "Gou Dan and his siblings are always fighting, making it unbearable. Living with them, I can’t rest well, and my recovery is slow."

Lu Jiaxin said, "Then move to Chaoyang. I’ll hire two caregivers for you, rotating to care for you, and an auntie to do laundry, cook, and clean."

Lu Hongjun really liked the Shichahai house, but knowing Lu Jiaxin’s character, he conceded: "I’ll move to Shichahai after I’m discharged tomorrow. Once you return to Hong Kong, I’ll move to Chaoyang."

After saying this, Lu Hongjun gave Nie Zhan a look, hoping he would help convince Lu Jiaxin. Unfortunately, Nie Zhan just looked at Jiaxin, not getting the message.

Lu Jiaxin frowned and said, "Moving back and forth is too troublesome."

Lu Hongjun quickly said, "It’s not troublesome, not at all. You’re rarely back; Dad just wants to live with you to be able to see you all day."

Hearing these cheesy words, Lu Jiaxin got goosebumps, but Nie Zhan was quite touched.

After they left the hospital, Nie Zhan said, "Your father still cares about you."

Lu Jiaxin chuckled softly, "He’s a person who knows how to seize the moment. With no pension in the future, and having to pay for his own medical expenses, he won’t dare treat me like he did before."

If Lu Hongjun kept the same attitude as before, she wouldn’t bother... Let bygones be bygones, as long as he doesn’t make any trouble in the future, she’d be willing to change her attitude. Lu Jiaxin didn’t want to go through it again; it was too painful.

Nie Zhan said, "Ultimately, he knows he’ll rely on you, and won’t trouble you again. Unlike my mom, who hasn’t changed at all over the years."

Lu Jiaxin spoke bluntly, "Your mom won’t change because she knows your grandpa won’t really abandon her. When your grandpa is gone, she’ll cling to you."

"If she only wants money, reasonable expenses can be covered, but unreasonable requests must be refused. Also, when she decides to return and settle in Hong Kong, she can’t live in your house; it’s best if she visits less."

This kind of cold-hearted, romance-focused mindset she didn’t want to be associated with. She was grateful they were in Hong Kong; even if not living with her mother-in-law, no one would pay attention to her complaints. But on the Mainland, people would criticize from a moral high ground.

Nie Zhan nodded, "Don’t worry, even if she comes back and settles in Hong Kong with the kids, I wouldn’t dare let her come over often."

In the future, he and Jiaxin would also have children, and if the kids were influenced by her... hmm, with his and Jiaxin’s upbringing, they definitely wouldn’t turn out that way.

Lu Jiaxin was satisfied with Nie Zhan’s response.

The two went to Cuihua Building to eat. Since they had made a reservation, they went straight to the private room upon arrival. The dishes were pre-ordered, consisting of the restaurant’s signature dishes.

Nie Zhan particularly enjoyed the furong chicken slices. This dish was snow-white and beautiful, with an excellent flavor, soft and tender like tofu, aromatic and fresh, very delicious.

Apart from the furong chicken slices, the braised chicken with sauce and the stewed black fish eggs were also excellent. After eating, Lu Jiaxin wiped her mouth with a napkin, "The food here is good. Let’s come back in a couple of days."

They couldn’t dine out tomorrow due to hosting guests. The day after, they’ll decide based on the situation; if there’s time, they’ll come, if not, so be it. But before leaving, for sure, she’d bring Nie Zhan for another meal here.

After a long day on the road, they went home, washed up, and went to bed after eating. The next day at eight, they went to the hospital. Lu Jiaxin had Secretary Zhang handle the discharge, while she went to talk to the doctor. She didn’t need to pack things herself; Lu Shan and his wife were there.

Now that Lu Hongjun had to pay for his own medical expenses and couldn’t claim reimbursement, the discharge procedure was simple: just pay the remaining bill to leave.

Secretary Zhang completed everything and returned: "Boss, everything’s settled, we can go home."

Da Mai habitually asked, "How much did it cost?"

Secretary Zhang glanced at Lu Jiaxin and, seeing her nod, replied, "Six thousand six hundred and eighty-three."

Da Mai exclaimed in surprise, "Why is it so much?"

Lu Hongjun was also startled, not expecting the hospital stay to wipe out a year and a half of his pension. No, he already had no pension.

Secretary Zhang reviewed the detailed bill, bringing it back as well: "The old man underwent a craniotomy this time, using all imported medicines."

Lu Jiaxin said to Da Mai, "You don’t have to worry about Dad’s living and medical expenses; I’ll handle them. In the future, if you have time, bring the kids to visit him more often."

Da Mai was puzzled, "Aunt, isn’t Grandpa staying in Shichahai?"

Lu Jiaxin explained, "My Aunt lives in Shichahai, and she’s already lost her mind. It’s inconvenient for Dad to stay there long-term. So after a few days in Shichahai, once Ah Zhan and I return, he’ll move to Chaoyang."

Da Mai quickly said, "Aunt, I discussed it with Shanzi. After Grandpa is discharged, he can live with us. Someone you hire won’t take as good care of him as family."

This isn’t right; if you pay well enough, people will serve you comfortably.

Lu Jiaxin replied, "The kids are noisy, not conducive to his recovery. Besides, your mother is still home helping you with the kids, so it’s inconvenient for him to move in."

Given Lu Hongjun’s reputation, if he recovered and lived long-term with Lu Shan and Da Mai, and her mother-in-law didn’t rent outside, rumors would surely spread. Especially since Lu Shan’s father-in-law is still around, it would lead to more complications.

Da Mai remained silent. Her mother had been nagging her about firing the two waitstaff at the noodle shop to hire two sisters-in-law instead, but she hadn’t responded. Her mother-in-law repeatedly warned that if her family needed money, they could borrow it, and if they wanted to find work in the Forty-nine City, they could help seek it but shouldn’t be hired at the shop. If they got hired and slacked off, because they were relatives, it would be awkward to criticize, spending money while feeling aggrieved.
