Chapter 634: Chapter 617: Opening of Xinxin Supermarket (2)

September 4th, a good day for trading and opening.

In Hong Kong, it’s customary to invite celebrities for store openings, and Xinxin Supermarket followed this unspoken rule by inviting six of Wanjia Film and Television’s most popular stars for the event. Nie Zhan and Lu Jiaxin arrived just before the ribbon-cutting, as heavyweight figures naturally appear last.

Tian Pengyu also came over and introduced the stars to Lu Jiaxin. She recognized two actresses among them, Lan Yinggu and Miss Wang, while the other four were unfamiliar to her.

The beautiful Xiao Qian, Miss Wang, isn’t very career-driven. She takes on roles when offered but prefers staying at home otherwise, never going out of her way to seek opportunities. However, she has excellent personal attributes, making her the spokesperson for Green Forest. Lan Yinggu, on the other hand, is more career-focused, wanting to earn more money. After signing with Wanjia Film and Television, she’s appeared in many films and TV shows. She participated in four scripts Lu Jiaxin wrote, except "Gambling God 1." Since she’s the leading lady of Wanjia Film and Television, the company has been marketing her extensively, and her fame now far exceeds her previous life.

Being in close proximity to two beauties, Miss Wang’s attractiveness was undeniable. Yet, Lu Jiaxin thought her modern look slightly paled in comparison to her costume styles. As for Lan Jieying, her large, bright eyes were mesmerizing, exuding brilliance and charm. Beneath her gentle appearance lay a stubborn streak, truly embodying the notion of ’beauty lying within.’ Unfortunately, such a beauty met a pitiable fate due to mistreatment, ending up insane. But now, with a contract with Wanjia Film and Television, unless voluntarily, any forced actions would land the perpetrators directly in jail.

Noticing Lu Jiaxin’s unblinking gaze towards Lan Yinggu, Nie Zhan took her hand and said, "Jiaxin, the time has come, let’s head out."

Lu Jiaxin snapped out of it and smiled at Lan Yinggu, saying, "Once you earn money, invest in some fixed assets. Don’t venture into investments."

Use your pay to buy properties or jewelry and bags. The former ensures steady profit (here, it means purchasing properties, not speculating in real estate), and the latter might just depreciate slightly. Mimicking others in financial business or investing in startups will likely lead to losses.

In this era, there’s still a stigma towards artists, and society, particularly in the entertainment industry, is rather chaotic. Most entering it come from poor families, very different from later times where rich and second-generation stars emerge in flocks, lacking looks or acting skills yet still facing exaggerated praise. Engaging in investments without understanding usually results in losing everything.

Having been in business for several years herself, Lu Jiaxin understood the nuances. In her past life, she was an executive at a clothing factory, yet upon becoming a boss, she encountered numerous challenges. Luckily, with Nie Zhan and other professionals assisting, she avoided many pitfalls.

Lan Yinggu was stunned for a moment. By the time she regained her senses, Lu Jiaxin had already walked ahead.

Tian Pengyu was also slightly surprised. Though Lu Jiaxin was the owner of Wanjia Film and Television, she had rarely interacted directly with the stars. Many girls her age were starstruck, but she was not. She only considered if an actor suited a role.

Lan Yinggu asked in confusion, "President Tian, what did the boss mean by that?"

Tian Pengyu responded directly, "The boss means you should focus on acting. Use your earnings to buy properties or collectibles that can appreciate in value, rather than starting a business or a company because you aren’t suited for it."

Lan Yinggu pondered over it.

At the entrance of Xinxin Supermarket, Lu Jiaxin and Nie Zhan saw a packed crowd outside, which stirred a sense of sentimentality in her. Indeed, bargains attract crowds, whether in Hong Kong or the Mainland.

Lu Jiaxin herself had been among them once, understanding that these people just wanted to enter the supermarket quickly and weren’t interested in listening to a leader’s lengthy speech. She discarded her secretary’s speech, uttered a few simple blessings, and handed the microphone to Nie Zhan.

From work until now, Nie Zhan has handled various unexpected events, so Lu Jiaxin not sticking to the script was a trivial matter. He naturally took the microphone, gave a few formal remarks, and then proceeded with the ribbon-cutting.

After the ceremony, Lu Jiaxin and Nie Zhan left. Once they were safely away, the supermarket officially opened, and the customers flooded in like a tidal wave. Events were held for the first three days of opening, some offering a 12% discount, others as low as 34% off, far cheaper than usual.

In the car on the way back, Nie Zhan asked, "Why did you suddenly advise your artists not to invest today? You might be hindering their potential to make money."

Lu Jiaxin replied, "With her thinking, investing will undoubtedly result in total loss. She’s one of my artists, and I don’t want investment failures to affect her performance, preventing her from earning for the company."

In fact, Lu Jiaxin recalled Lan Yinggu’s later years when she lived on welfare, which prompted her previous advice. If Lan Yinggu took heed, all the better; if not, she could always start afresh without spiraling into insanity.

Nie Zhan noticed her concern for her artists, "When do you plan to release Legally Blonde 2 and Gambling God 2?"

Lu Jiaxin had discussed it with Tian Pengyu, "Tian Pengyu wants Legally Blonde to premiere on New Year’s and Gambling God 2 as a Lunar New Year release."

With the foundation built by the first film, Gambling God 2’s box office won’t fall short. Since she talked about expanding Wanjia Film and Television, Tian Pengyu immediately produced a feasible plan. So far, Wanjia Film and Television has successfully recruited talents from TVB, Asia Television, and other film companies, significantly expanding its scale.

Green Forest and Xinxin Real Estate had encountered a few issues while Lu Jiaxin was traveling, which Nie Zhan helped resolve. But Tian Pengyu managed Wanjia Film and Television so well that Jiaxin hardly needed to worry, let alone bother him.

Nie Zhan said, "Jiaxin, after such a big incident with your dad, and him still being in the hospital, I should visit him since my company currently has no pressing matters."

When Lu Hongjun was unconscious, he had a contract worth over a billion to sign. Lu Jiaxin advised him against visiting, prioritizing work first. Now that everything was settled, he felt it was time to visit. It wasn’t about winning favor, but rather basic courtesy.

Lu Jiaxin wasn’t inclined to return just yet, so she said, "Let’s wait until after Mid-Autumn Festival. I wouldn’t want to spend it with him."

Surely, she’d have to return eventually and ensure Lu Hongjun’s arrangements post-discharge are in place. Caring for Lu Hongjun until his end is her responsibility and duty, not something she plans to pass on to Lu Shan, whose support she simply expects.

Seeing the look of disdain on her face, Nie Zhan chuckled, "When he gets old and immobile, eventually you’ll have to bring him to Hong Kong."

He mentioned bringing him to Hong Kong, not necessarily living with him. Hong Kong healthcare is better than in the Mainland, and care staff are more professional.

Without a second thought, Lu Jiaxin said, "I’m living just fine; why bring someone to add to the trouble?"

"With age comes more ailments, and I don’t want you running back and forth," he said.

Lu Jiaxin replied, "For regular ailments, Shanzi can accompany him to the hospital. This time was special, it’s not always life-and-death."

Realizing her resolve, Nie Zhan didn’t say more.
