After the couple left the house, Lu Shan lowered his voice and said, "Dama, how can we take Auntie’s house on Radiance Road? You can’t buy that house for less than seventy or eighty thousand."

Dama said, "Auntie has already offered it to us, so it would be rude to refuse. There are many rooms over there, and when Grandpa gets out of the hospital, we can bring him back to live with us."

Lu Shan shook his head and said, "No need. Auntie said that after Grandpa is discharged, he’ll be sent back to the house in Chaoyang to recuperate. At that time, we can hire two caregivers and a nanny, and we can visit him with the kids regularly."

Dama glared at Shanzi, "I said you have a wooden head, and you really do. Auntie arranged it this way to avoid giving us trouble, but Grandpa is sick and will definitely want to live with family. It would be so lonely only seeing caregivers and a nanny every day and not having family around."

Dama said, "No need to ask, just bring him home after he’s discharged. If he feels it’s too noisy later on, he can go back to Chaoyang."

The next day Lu Jiaguang went to the hospital and saw that only the caregivers and Xing Ziyang were in the ward; Lu Jiaxin and Lu Shan weren’t there. Upon inquiring, he found out that Lu Jiaxin had taken an early flight back to Hong Kong.

"What’s he doing at the housing authority?"

Xing Ziyang smiled and said, "My boss gifted the house on Radiance Road to Comrade Lu Shan, and today he and his wife, along with a lawyer, are there to handle the transfer."

Of course, there was a condition to gifting the house: it could only be lived in and not sold.

Lu Jiaguang knew something was up when he heard this because otherwise, Jiaxin wouldn’t just hand over the house on Radiance Road to Shanzi out of the blue: "When Shanzi gets to the hospital, have him give me a call."

"Sure."

After handling the transfer at the housing authority, the next step was moving. Dama said, "Shanzi, I’ll have Mom start packing, and we’ll hire movers the day after tomorrow."

Ever since news got out about Lu Hongjun being arrested, people in the residential building have been giving them strange looks. A friendly neighbor quietly told them that some people thought Lu Hongjun’s wrongdoing meant the house should be taken back, saying it’s unfair for a leech to occupy such a big house.

Maizi knew that these people were only talking and not taking action because the verdict wasn’t out yet. Once it’s decided that Grandpa is guilty, they won’t be able to live there anymore. Now that the house on Radiance Road is in their name, it’s best to move soon and not deal with the residents’ judgments any longer.

As soon as Maizi arrived at the residential building, she saw an old lady giving her a disdainful look and commenting in Mandarin, asking how this family still had the nerve to live there.

Normally, Maizi would have held back, especially as they hadn’t secured a suitable house and didn’t know when they could move. But since they were moving in a few days, there was no need to tolerate it silently.

Maizi looked at the old lady, smiled insincerely, and said, "We’re moving out this week. But even if we vacate, it won’t be your family moving in."

Aunt Zhao’s face darkened.

A neighbor who got along with Dama was off work that day, and while she’d just returned with groceries and was chatting in the courtyard, she heard this and asked with concern, "Dama, is there an update on your grandfather’s situation?"

Dama said energetically, "No, my Auntie felt that the atmosphere in the residential area was bad for the kids’ growth, so she gave us the house on Radiance Road."

When Lu Shan arrived at the hospital and got Lu Jiaguang’s message, he went out to make a phone call. "Yes, Auntie said the house in the residential area needs to be returned to the government. The Radiance Road house was vacant and might become run-down without anyone living in it, so she gave it to us since we had nowhere else to stay."

Lu Jiaguang knew that Jiaxin was sympathetic to this nephew, which is why she gave them the house: "Returning the house in the residential area to the government, was that your aunt’s decision or your grandfather’s sentence outcome?"

Lu Jiaguang was both shocked and relieved, "Is that all?"

The cancellation of a pension and medical expense reimbursements and the loss of a house would feel catastrophic for a normal family, but for Third Uncle, it wasn’t much of a concern since with Jiaxin’s help, his later years would still be secure.
