Chapter 629: Chapter 612: Worse Than Beasts
Lu Jiaxin didn’t stay in the hospital to keep vigil at night, she hired two caregivers to take turns, and Wang Lin stayed at the hospital to watch the caregivers. She didn’t trust the caregivers but trusted the bodyguard by her side.
She woke up at six o’clock on time, washed up, and went out for a run. The house in Shichahai was big, so she could run inside her own property without going out.
After running for a short while, Qian Xiaoxiao caught up with her.
Lu Jiaxin slowed down and asked, "When did you come back yesterday?"
Qian Xiaoxiao came back at around eleven last night, and when she got home, Lu Jiaxin was already asleep: "Boss, I rented out the house in Chaoyang, let one of my younger guys live there for free. They will leave once Old Comrade Lu is discharged."
As soon as Lu Jiaxin heard this, she understood. Having her younger guy live there would make Tang Sufen not dare to act up. Otherwise, with her shameless nature, she’d cause a ruckus if someone was there or would break in when no one was around.
Qian Xiaoxiao carefully observed her expression and, seeing no dissatisfaction, whispered, "Huang Jianye is having an affair with a woman from the alley. I had my younger guy leak the news to the woman’s husband, who was so furious that he cut off Huang Jianye’s arm with a knife."
Lu Jiaxin stopped in her tracks, looked at her, and asked, "How did you know that Huang Jianye was having an affair with a woman from his alley?"
Qian Xiaoxiao didn’t hide it and said, "I felt this family was no good, so I had to keep an eye on them. I had my younger guy watch them last time we returned, and we really found something."
These younger guys were ones she took under her wing in the Forty-nine City back then. They were little nobodies then, but now they were quite something.
Lu Jiaxin didn’t have anyone watch the Huang family, they didn’t warrant her attention: "So, you also kept an eye on Huang Jianshe?"
Qian Xiaoxiao not only had someone watch Huang Jianshe but also watched Tang Sufen. She thought that with Tang Sufen’s character, she would be having affairs outside, but she stayed loyal after marrying Lu Hongjun, yet found out about the shady business Huang Jianshe was involved in.
Lu Jiaxin was shocked: "He swapped someone’s family heirloom incense burner with a fake one?"
Qian Xiaoxiao nodded and said, "Yes, that incense burner isn’t an heirloom; the old lady of that family found it on the road over twenty years ago. She thought it looked ancient and brought it home, stuffing it under the bed. A few years ago, when policies relaxed, she took it out and used it for incense on the first and fifteenth of each month for her husband."
This kind of thing could happen over twenty years ago, but not anymore.
"How did Huang Jianshe know that family had this antique incense burner?"
Qian Xiaoxiao thought this bastard was very vile: "Huang Jianshe was friends with the old lady’s eldest grandson. He saw the incense burner while visiting their home and thought it was an antique. So he had a replica made, and when no one was home, he went in and swapped the burner."
Lu Jiaxin asked, "He wasn’t discovered?"
Qian Xiaoxiao said, "He stole it while the old lady was sick. When she came back from the hospital and used it for incense, she noticed something was wrong. It was a good imitation, so the family didn’t notice and thought she was confused from illness. Angry and upset that no one believed her, she fell ill again and soon passed away."
That’s truly sinful.
Lu Jiaxin asked, "How did that family eventually find out?"
Qian Xiaoxiao said, "Before she died, the old lady kept talking about the incense burner. Her eldest son, being filial, got it appraised after the funeral. The expert said it was newly made to look old."
The burner had been with them for over twenty years, so it couldn’t be new. The truth was, the burner had indeed been swapped. This not only cost them an antique but also the old lady’s life.
Qian Xiaoxiao explained, "When he went to sell the burner, my younger guy happened to be following him. He sold it for over thirty thousand yuan. Back then, my younger guy thought he had found it on a junk hunt and didn’t know it was stolen. It wasn’t until that family made a big fuss searching for the thief that he knew, but by then the old lady was gone."
Yesterday, she paid off a kid to tell that family about it, including the buyer and the transaction amount for the burner. They quickly investigated and, upon confirming the truth, went to settle accounts with Huang Jianshe.
Lu Jiaxin simply said, "He brought this upon himself."
Meanwhile, Wang Xiaojie also found out that Huang Jianshe’s leg had been broken, thanks to a warm-hearted aunt from the alley who came by to tell him.
Sister-in-law Lu said, "Why did they go so hard on him?"
The aunt didn’t know, but breaking Huang Jianshe’s leg must have created a deep grudge.
At Wang Xiaojie’s workplace, a nurse lived in the same area as Huang Jianye. The commotion last night was so big that she heard about it, and also knew about Tang Sufen being chased out.
Hearing that Han Jianye’s arm was cut off, Wang Xiaojie was too shocked to speak. After a moment, she asked, "Is what you’re saying true?"
The nurse replied with a smile, "Of course, it’s true. He was taken to the First Hospital. If they’re lucky, the arm might be reattached."
One coincidence might happen, but two is unlikely. And combined with Qian Xiaoxiao’s strange behavior yesterday, she suspected that both incidents were orchestrated by Qian Xiaoxiao. More accurately, they were Jiaxin’s doing.
Wang Xiaojie didn’t like Tang Sufen’s family, but she thought Lu Jiaxin’s way of handling things was dangerous. After some hesitation, she went to a public phone booth during lunch break and called Lu Jiaguang.
Lu Jiaguang’s first reaction was disbelief, saying, "That’s impossible. Jiaxin wouldn’t do such a thing; it must be a coincidence."
Wang Xiaojie hoped so too, but she worried she might be right: "Ask her. If it’s not Jiaxin, all the better. But if it is, please persuade her. This isn’t Hong Kong; we have to follow the law here."
Lu Jiaguang refused: "If we ask, we’re suspecting Jiaxin. Don’t overthink it; I believe Jiaxin is mindful in her actions."
When Lu Jiaxin arrived at the hospital, she inquired whether Lu Hongjun had a fever and felt relieved when the answer was no, then went to find the doctor for an update.
Knowing Lu Jiaxin’s background, the doctor was more amiable now and explained in more detail. As long as Lu Hongjun didn’t get a fever, he could be discharged in a week.
In the ward, Lu Jiaxin told Lu Shan, "His condition is stable now. The doctor said it only requires some attentive care from family. I’ve got some business to handle in Hong Kong, so I’ll head back first. I’ll return once things are settled."
Lu Shan had no objections: "Aunt, you take care of your work. I’m here! Da Mai is managing the shop now. I can stay with Grandpa."
With the two caregivers taking turns to care for Lu Hongjun, all he had to do was keep watch. There was a bed in the ward, and he could sleep there if he got tired.
Lu Jiaxin said, "No need, I’ve got everything arranged here. Just drop by to see him and chat if you have time."
Two caregivers taking turns, plus assigning a bodyguard to keep watch. As for the bodyguards, Xing Ziyang said they would take turns in shifts. Just keeping watch in the ward without other duties, plus receiving an extra allowance, everyone was happy to earn this money.
