Chapter 252 - Chapter 252 Chapter 241 The New Guardian

Chapter 252: Chapter 241: The New Guardian Chapter 252: Chapter 241: The New Guardian Once Ding Jing signed, Lu Hongjun went to the Civil Affairs Bureau to complete the divorce procedures. When he received the divorce certificate, his feelings were complicated. He had thought he would grow old with Ding Jing, but he never expected to end up with this outcome.

After seeing the divorce certificate, Lu Jiaguang called Lu Jiaxin from the post office that same evening, “We’re divorced, I accompanied Third Uncle to the Civil Affairs Bureau.”

Lu Jiaxin’s mood was not too bad upon hearing the news; one of her original self’s two wishes had been fulfilled, and in just over three months, the other would be as well.

Lu Jiaguang asked, “Su Heyuan said you donated two million Hong Kong Dollars to the Mainland. Did you donate all the money you had on hand?”

Lu Jiaxin replied, “That was the money Aunt gave me. I didn’t want it, so I donated it. Big Brother, I won’t go back on my promise. After I start working, I’ll send him living expenses every month.”

Regarding the donation, Su Heyuan thought there was no need to keep it a secret from the Lu family members. Not telling Lu Jiajie was because he didn’t trust him, but Lu Jiaguang was different.

Knowing that she was upset, Lu Jiaguang said with a laugh, “It’s okay, Third Uncle has savings and a pension, and his medical expenses can be fully reimbursed.”

Lu Hongjun was a cadre on medical retirement; his medical expenses could essentially all be reimbursed. However, should his age advance to a point where he needed routine care and medication, the costs would become significant.

Lu Jiaxin hummed in response, “Big Brother, I need to revise; if there’s nothing else, I’m hanging up.”

Lu Jiaguang had intended to tell her about Lu Jiajie’s situation, but since she needed to study, he agreed immediately and decided not to bother her before her exams.

On Saturday, Lu Jiaxin called Yan Yihua, and together with Su Heyuan, they went to the Guh Residence. She attended classes from Monday to Friday, so weekends were the only time she had available.

After receiving her call, Gu Xiuxiu also invited Lawyer Bai over. Regarding her request to change guardianship, Lawyer Bai sensed there was more to the matter. However, since Gu Xiuxiu wouldn’t say and it wasn’t related to inheritance issues, he didn’t probe further.

In the presence of both their lawyers, the matter was settled quickly. After signing, Lu Jiaxin and her party left, and Lawyer Bai stayed to go into the room with Gu Xiuxiu, probably to discuss additional matters.

Yan Yihua said to Lu Jiaxin, “On Monday, I will apply to the court.”

“Do I need to go with Big Brother Su?”

“No need,” Yan Yihua replied. With all parties in agreement and no disputes, he only needed to make a trip; the parties involved did not need to be present.

Yan Yihua submitted the application, but there was a waiting list. Lu Jiaxin originally thought that the He Family would cause some trouble, but unexpectedly, the application for the change of guardianship succeeded without any movement from the He Family side within half a month.

Although Lu Jiaxin found it odd, she didn’t inquire further; as long as the guardianship was changed and she had nothing to worry about from behind, it was fine. The only regret was that Gu Haifan’s custody could not be changed. It couldn’t be helped; Gu Xiuxiu did not agree, and Gu Haifan was not pleased with the idea either.

After the matter was resolved, Su Heyuan said with a smile, “Now, I’m your guardian. You can’t call me Big Brother Su like before anymore, you have to call me Brother just like Heming.”

“Brother…”

Su Heyuan crisply responded.

Mid-March, Qian Xiaoxiao returned.

Lu Jiaxin got quite a scare when she saw Qian Xiaoxiao, whose round face had slimmed down to a melon seed shape. “What happened to you? Is Master Qian starving you by not feeding you every day?”

Qian Xiaoxiao complained with resentment, “My grandpa’s old ailment flared up, and the doctor instructed him not to smoke or drink. He disagreed, so I hid all those things. He got so angry, he said unless I stop eating meat, I have no right to stop him from smoking and drinking.”

Lu Jiaxin couldn’t help but laugh and cry at the same time, thinking how these two were really matching wits. “So, you haven’t eaten meat for a while?”

Qian Xiaoxiao touched her face, looking miserable. “Exactly, to stop him from smoking and drinking, I haven’t touched any meat or fish for a month and a half. Sister Xin, can I have a full meal today?”

She had made a great sacrifice for the old man’s health.

Lu Jiaxin cruelly refused her, “You haven’t eaten meat for a month and a half; if you eat rich food now, you’re definitely going to get diarrhea. Later, let Auntie make you some lean meat porridge and put some meat in the stir-fried dishes. Once your stomach adjusts, we’ll buy you roast chicken and goose to eat.”

Roast chicken and goose were Qian Xiaoxiao’s favorites, and she happily clung to Lu Jiaxin, “Sister Xin, you’re the best, my grandpa is simply a demon. It was his rule that I shouldn’t touch meat or fish, and yet he deliberately ate braised pork and drank fish soup in front of me, it drove me nuts. When he’s bedridden and can’t move in the future, I’m going to eat roast chicken or braised pork right beside him, just to make him drool endlessly.”

Lu Jiaxin burst out laughing, feeling that both grandparent and grandchild were precious in their own way.

After eating a bowl of three-delights dumplings, Qian Xiaoxiao spoke with some regret, “Sister Xin, we sold our orchids too cheaply. If we had taken them to Spring City to sell ourselves, they would have been worth at least three million.”

Lu Jiaxin didn’t feel the same regret, “Making more than ten times the profit is enough. One shouldn’t be too greedy; too much greed can lead to loss.”

Qian Xiaoxiao agreed with this viewpoint, “I went back to my hometown with my grandpa. The villagers saw us in new clothes, and rumors started that we’d struck it rich. Guess what? The next afternoon, my birth mother came knocking, asking me for money for her retirement. She’s not even forty this year, what kind of retirement money does she want? Besides, in the countryside daughters don’t take care of their parents’ retirements, let alone when she remarried and never looked after me.”

“What happened after that?”

Qian Xiaoxiao said disdainfully, “I kicked her out. Later on, my mother told me that the son she had later on took a fancy to a girl, but they couldn’t afford the bride price the girl’s family was asking for. It’s laughable, why should her son’s inability to find a bride be my concern? She wanted me to be the sucker, in her dreams.”

“I’m not even going to care when my own brother wants to get married in the future. If he can’t find a bride, it’s his own fault; he needs to reflect on himself, it has nothing to do with me.”

She was raised by her grandpa, and she would take care of him in his old age. As for her father and stepmother, she would respect them, but caring for them in their old age was her step-siblings’ business, not hers. Of course, her stepmother said the same thing–that she doesn’t need to take care of her when she’s old and just to take care of herself.

Lu Jiaxin said with a smile, “Your grandpa is buying land and building a house in Peng City; he might need your care later, but you won’t need to provide for his old age.”

When it came to buying land and building a house, Qian Xiaoxiao mentioned, “I accidentally let slip about the Peng City land purchase. When my dad found out, he wanted my grandpa to build a house for my brother back in our hometown, but he got cursed out by my grandpa instead.”

In fact, Master Qian had originally planned to do just that, but Lu Jiaxin told him that the land and houses in Peng City would be very valuable in the future. Lu Jiaxin was so capable and had even advised him; if he didn’t listen, it would serve him right to be poor. He just couldn’t tell his son the reason, so he ended up cursing him out instead.

Lu Jiaxin laughed, saying, “If it weren’t for your grandpa’s old age, I would really like to keep him by my side.”

Qian Xiaoxiao quickly waved her hands and said, “The doctor said he can’t work too hard anymore because of his health. Now that he’s gotten better, once the land is bought, he’ll go to Ancient Capital to help you manage the store.”

Lu Jiaxin hadn’t even met Old Man Sun; if Master Qian could go oversee things, she wouldn’t have to worry anymore.
