Chapter 366: Inside Alcetas’s Mind

<You’ve become a Bystander!>

<Bystander: Milan Ansar [Level 5]>

<Role: Childhood friend of Alcetas Audagar.>

<Personality: Cheerful, blunt, supportive>

Rael glanced down at his hands, and as expected, he was in a completely different body, a body belonging to someone going by the name of Milan Ansar.

Coincidentally, Rael was right beside a broken mirror, so when he looked ahead, he saw a black-haired teenager looking back at him.

Surprisingly enough, he was wearing makeup that made his skin appear slightly paler, along with a suit that looked both mysterious and comical.

And moments later, the final pop-up appeared.

<You are now inside the mind of: Alcetas Audagar [Grade 6 King Class | Level 209]>

<Role: First Seat of the Blazing Sun faction.>

<Personality: Prideful, righteous, unpredictable.>

<Memory Timeline...>

<8,422 years before the current timeline.>

8,422 years? Rael’s eyes widened. Fucking hell, this guy wasn’t kidding when he said he might’ve had a life before.

Of course, it was still too early to assume anything. For all Rael knew, this was just a trap, and Milan was another Seat of the Blazing Sun faction.

Even if they were slightly younger...

The moment he had those thoughts, he heard a knock on the door.

Taking a deep breath, Rael adjusted his clothes and slowly walked toward the door, then swung it open.

What met his sight was a golden-haired boy around his age, wearing a strange fedora. He had drawn a moustache on with a pen and was trying to act all smug and cool.

<The Mindforged Emperor has recalled a distant memory!>

<Description: Today is the day when the priests of a foreign nation decided to visit Araknia, the homeland of Milan Ansar and Alcetas Audagar. The two had made plans a few weeks in advance to meet up in cosplay and piss off the priests.>

"Hmm... you dressed pretty shitty," Alcetas remarked. "Weren’t you supposed to be a doctor?"

Rael snapped back into focus. "The other stuff was too expensive, there’s no way I can afford that. But look, now I’m a butler."

"How is a butler supposed to look menacing?" Alcetas asked and straightened his posture. "I mean... do you at least want my hat?"

A faint smile appeared on Rael’s face as he accepted the fedora and put it on.

As he was about to head out, Alcetas raised a single finger, stopping him.

"Did you bring the thing?"

"The thing...?"

Alcetas’s eyes widened. "Milan... did you damage your head yesterday?"

Rael stayed quiet and shrugged, prompting Alcetas to explain further.

"You said you were going to bring the magic wand. Didn’t you say your sister had one lying around?"

"Oh... that."

<The Mindforged Emperor has recalled a distant memory!>

<Description: In the drawer beside the mirror lies the magic wand Milan had hidden from his sister in preparation for today.>

Rael nodded slightly and approached the drawer, pulling out a twig that looked ordinary at first glance.

But his senses were clearly stating that if he waved this twig around, his house would probably explode.

"Great! Give it here." Alcetas ran up and snatched the twig from Rael’s hand.

He carefully wrapped it in a cloth, and then, after giving Rael one more wave, he made his way out of the house.

A few moments later, Rael followed after him.

It seemed like Milan lived in some sort of hut, much smaller than Rael had imagined. But at least his claim that he had no money to afford doctor gear wasn’t total bullshit.

But clearly, this wasn’t the modern era, nor was it during the time of Sketa Online.

It was very far back in history, to the point where Rael saw multiple water wheels scattered throughout the open cornfields.

The farmers attended to the fields, but at the same time, Rael spotted several dozen people walking around with stone collars around their necks.

Slaves? It’s that far back, huh?

"Milan, is everything okay?" Alcetas asked innocently. "You look a bit out of it."

"I’m fine, just tired," Rael replied with a sigh. "I was a bit too excited for today."

"Oh yeah? I guess some people are excited." Alcetas whistled with a distant look. "Though out of all of them, I hadn’t expected you to be one of them. Especially after the priests took your mother away because she was labeled as a heretic."

Rael’s eyes narrowed.

"I didn’t forgive them. I was excited because I wanted to mess with them. That’s all."

"Sure, if that’s what you say," Alcetas replied, and just like that, they made their way through the fields. After roughly an hour, they arrived inside the city.

"Free berries! Come get some free berries!"

"Selling pickled frog feet! Only 2 coppers per!"

"Come get your children a holy sword! Only 1 copper!"

"How stupid..." Alcetas muttered.

"Say, could we stop by your place later?" Rael asked. "I think I left something there."

"Hmm? That plushie? Yeah, sure," Alcetas replied. "We can stop by right after we’re done here, okay?"

"Mhm..."

Like that, the two strolled through the busy cobblestone streets, passing by dozens of vendors until eventually, they had arrived right beside the city gate, which was made entirely out of wood.

This place is pretty fancy for something that existed over 8,000 years ago, Rael thought in amusement. Still, the church being the enemy? How cliché.

With that thought in mind, Rael stood beside Alcetas and waited.

After two hours of waiting, and with Rael wanting to finally get out of here, he heard a whistle in the distance.

He turned toward the sound and saw several banners held high, with an army marching toward the city.

More importantly, the symbols on those banners caught his attention.

After all, they belonged to a faction he was oh so familiar with.

"YEAAH! The priests of the Blazing Sun are arriving! Everyone, be on your best behavior!"

"Oh my god! Is that Prince Zander? Why is he with the priests of the Blazing Sun?"

"Milan..." Alcetas mumbled, unfurling the magic wand from the cloth and aiming it toward the incoming army of people.

"Get ready to run..."
