Chapter 357: Arriving At The Palace
They zipped through the air, with Lilith keeping up with him fairly easily.
And yet, with every step he took, he traveled nearly 1,000 kilometers.
So within four seconds, he had arrived in Elarin.
The air was still crackling from his steps, courtesy of his Calamity Agility effect that disrupted space in a 10-meter radius with each movement.
Lilith arrived less than a second after him.
"That really was an interesting skill. Any way you could teach it to me?" Lilith asked with a hum.
"Hmm... maybe," Rael replied. "But you would need to change races for that. I don’t think the skill I have would be enough."
"Change races...? Never mind then," Lilith said with a sigh. "I’ll just let you handle the annoying bunch of liars."
"Don’t you have a few mind-related skills, though?" Rael asked.
"They’re direct attack skills," Lilith replied. "Only those that rely on my charm and fear can do something to the mind. But... it’s not really as great as yours."
Rael nodded in understanding.
"I see... well, it doesn’t matter much. Let’s go to the palace."
"Sure~"
With that, the two once again calmly strolled through the streets. But unlike the streets of Sanctis, the streets of Elarin were deathly silent.
He couldn’t even hear the occasional barking in the distance or the prayers that always seemed to seep out of the churches.
And it didn’t take long to figure out that the two of them were trapped.
Rael glanced to the side, and to his surprise, two Holy Knights emerged, also known as Paladins.
They wore heavy armor and had considerable power.
All in all, their roles as defenders of the Holy Kingdom were not exaggerated. If this was Rael before the summit, then two of these people might’ve actually been able to put up a fight.
However...
"Sup, boys. What’s the occasion?" Rael asked playfully. "Have you come to greet the king of a neighboring country? Or maybe..."
His smirk grew. "You’ve come to kill me?"
One of the Paladins stepped up, brandishing their sword at Rael.
"Our sources say you’ve allied yourself with the Demonic Lands. That is unacceptable. But as a courtesy of you being a ruler, a valuable one at that, we must ask you to kindly leave."
Rael tilted his head. "And if I don’t?"
The Paladin sighed. "Then I’m afraid we’ll have no choice but to eliminate you, Your Majesty."
The moment the Paladin finished his words, he raised his sword high into the air.
Immediately, a single beam of light shot into the sky, slowly creating a dome-like barrier around an area a few hundred meters wide.
Then, without warning, the Paladin in the back took a step forward as majestic wings of light sprouted from his back.
And of course, the remaining Paladin did the same.
He felt their power drastically spike, but it was still nowhere near worrying territory. Correct content is on NovelFire
—Jonathan [Level 599] - Vitality: Tier 4 [100% / 100% HP]
—Alerian [Level 724] - Vitality: Tier 4 [100% / 100% HP]
"So are you sure you want to do this?" Rael asked, taking out his Violin Blade. "Because when I ring this violin, you two will be shredded to pieces."
Jonathan and Alerian exchanged glances, taking deep breaths.
And as expected...
"For the glory of the Goddess of Light!"
They dashed forward at a surprising speed, closing the distance in an instant.
However, in the grand scheme of things, it didn’t matter.
Rael put away his Violin Blade and took a step forward.
The pressure alone destabilized the wings of the two Paladins, causing them to slightly stagger.
They attempted to reposition themselves, but in that very same split second, Rael grabbed hold of their necks and lifted them up into the air.
Through their helmets, he saw their eyes widen as they tried their best to wriggle out.
However...
"Thank you for your service."
-100%! Fatal Hit!
-100%! Fatal Hit!
Just like that, they fell to the ground with their necks snapped, without having stood even a single chance against Rael.
Even after a few seconds of waiting for a particular pop-up to appear, it never did.
And he soon realized why.
<Ding!>
<Gluttony has detected an overwhelmingly weak opponent!>
<Calculating...>
<Calculations have been finished.>
<You may not absorb the strength of those weaker than you.>
Uhh...? Rael tilted his head. So can I only get stats from Grade Two or higher opponents?
<Ding!>
<Notice: You may not absorb the strength of those below Grade 1 Ascension.>
That made a bit more sense.
It just meant he couldn’t go on a weak boar-killing spree to gain an infinite amount of stats.
"Is everything alright?" Lilith asked, puzzled. "You’ve been standing there for a while. Are you getting a guilty conscience?"
"What? No. I just didn’t get the rewards I was expecting," Rael replied plainly. "Anyways, what I’ve done here is basically a declaration of war, so we need to deal with King Arthur quickly."
He didn’t wait for an answer as he sent two fiery notes at the two Paladins, cremating them.
Then he dashed toward the palace and arrived in an instant.
He sensed a few more Paladins scattered throughout, but for some reason, they weren’t approaching him.
Is this what they call a royal welcome? Or is this another trap? Rael mused.
There was this tingly feeling in his heart, similar to what he felt in the Memory Record.
It wasn’t as pronounced, but that was simply because he hadn’t focused on it much.
But now that he brought his attention to that feeling, he realized something was off.
Even his Ancient Instinct from the Dragon Bloodline was reacting to the danger.
And from Lilith’s slightly slowed steps, it seemed like she noticed something too.
Hmm... just what are you planning, King Arthur? Rael wondered.
He navigated through the spacious hallways alongside Lilith until eventually, they found the throne room.
It was an extremely large door, resembling a city gate.
But when he put his hands on it, he was able to push it apart effortlessly.
And that was when a surprising sight caught his eye.
