Chapter 97: Chapter 97: Don’t Try to Blindly Direct Me
Lily Turner doesn’t have the time or the energy to figure out what Easton Holmes really means on the other end of the phone, so she decisively and directly sends him a message.
"It means exactly what it says. Luke Crowe handles all your matters anyway. Make no exception with this one. Don’t get involved. I don’t want things getting more complicated."
Whether it’s about the house, investments, or even those small incidents that happened before, Luke Crowe is the one handling them for Easton Holmes. Lily’s suggestion is made with full confidence and justification.
"I’m meddling?"
Easton Holmes quickly replies with a short, four-character message, but it clearly conveys his point.
Reading the brief message, Lily feels Easton’s dissatisfaction. As she prepares to send a message explaining herself, she suddenly notices a flaw in his message.
When did she say he was meddling unnecessarily? What she said was not to get involved.
These two statements have different meanings, okay?
Lily rubs her forehead in frustration, her slender fingers flying over her phone’s screen as she quickly types and sends a message.
"I wasn’t saying you were meddling unnecessarily. I’m saying you shouldn’t handle this matter. Let Luke Crowe deal with it, OK!"
After explaining, she intentionally adds "OK" at the end, her tone firm.
"I know how to handle it myself, no need for you to mess around."
Easton quickly sends another text, its words dripping with displeasure, and Lily senses the hidden anger within the message.
Does this guy insist on getting involved in this?
Lily is feeling uncertain about this matter. She really wants to persuade the man on the other end of the phone not to step in, but knowing he’s already quite angry with her, anything more she says will only make him angrier.
She decides not to add fuel to the fire and not escalate things to a completely uncontrollable state.
Lily puts her phone back in her pocket, resting her hands on the windowsill as she stands by the window, staring at the distant skyscrapers while her mind is filled with the troubling stories coming from the media.
While Lily is staring blankly out the window in frustration, Robert Xander, the company boss, calls Freya Yeager.
"Mr. Xander!"
Seeing it’s a call from her boss, Freya immediately answers.
Robert doesn’t waste words, and goes straight to the point on the other end: "I know you’re with Lily Turner now. Please tell her to just focus on filming and not worry about anything else."
"Mr. Xander! Those issues the company needs to..."
"Those matters will be resolved. Just stay with the crew these days. I don’t want to see any more problems arising."
Before Freya could finish, Robert interrupts, implying some things before quickly hanging up, regardless of how Freya might react on the other end.
When the phone rang earlier, Lily had already diverted her attention from the window and turned to look at Freya standing nearby.
"Sister Freya! What did Mr. Xander say on the call?"
Standing a bit far, and with Freya speaking sparingly, Lily didn’t hear the conversation clearly and couldn’t understand what it meant.
"Mr. Xander said you should focus on filming, and he’ll handle the rest." Although Robert didn’t explicitly state it, Freya knew that’s what he meant.
