Chapter 148: Chapter 148 I’m Just Not Ready Yet

"I’ll come pick you up in a bit."

While on the phone with Lily Turner, Easton Holmes was already on the way to her house. At this moment, he had already driven out of the Military District Compound.

Hearing Easton say he was coming to pick her up, Lily was startled and broke into a cold sweat, "You don’t need to come pick me up. I still don’t know why my mom is looking for me. I’m staying here tonight."

She didn’t know what her mom really wanted. Her heart was in turmoil, and she felt uncertain.

"But I’ve already started driving."

Easton informed her truthfully. He didn’t turn back as per Lily’s suggestion, but instead, continued driving towards her place.

By now, the car had already stopped at the gate, "Miss! We’re here!"

Upon hearing the driver speak, Lily snapped out of her shock, quickly paid the fare, and got out of the car.

"You don’t have to come all the way to pick me up. I’ll take a cab back after I’m done here."

Even though Easton was already on his way, Lily was anxious, and her tone was somewhat blunt, and her mood turned for the worse.

Through the phone, Easton sensed the change in Lily’s mood and half-jokingly, half-seriously said, "What’s wrong? Am I, the son-in-law, not allowed to meet the in-laws?"

Although she didn’t say it outright, he could tell from her words that she didn’t want him to meet her parents.

This realization made him feel a bit uncomfortable; she was afraid of her family finding out about their relationship.

Why was this? Was she still thinking about the man who betrayed her?

"Don’t jump to conclusions, okay? I’m just not ready." For Lily, the idea of introducing Easton to her parents wasn’t something she hadn’t thought through yet; she had never even considered it.

When he suddenly brought it up today, she found it a tricky issue to handle.

Easton didn’t press Lily further, knowing that continuing to ask would lead to no result. She hadn’t even considered taking him home to meet her parents.

"I get it. You take care of your things; I promise I won’t go in and disturb you." He was determined to pick her up, to introduce her to his comrades, which was his real goal for tonight.

"You..."

"Go ahead with what you need to do, I’m hanging up now."

Lily’s words were cut off by Easton, and before she could react, he had already hung up the phone.

This guy! He’s really stubborn, stubborn enough to give her a headache.

As Lily stood at the gate, hesitating whether or not to call Easton back, two cars drove towards her, one following the other. Instinctively, she turned to look at the approaching cars.

When she recognized the cars coming towards her, her face turned pale.

She wanted to hide away, but it was already too late. The car in front had stopped not far from her.

"Lily!"

Charles Thompson got out of the car first. As soon as he did, he greeted Lily standing at the gate, walking towards her while speaking.

Meanwhile, Amber Wood, who got out of the car after him, was visibly displeased. She rolled her eyes at Charles’s back, and feeling unsatisfied still, pursed her bright red lips.

Lily caught this scene perfectly. Glancing at Amber, she subtly shifted her gaze to Charles, "Uncle!"
