Chapter 33: What’s Important.
’’Amari!!... Amari!!’’ Freyr walks around, scanning for Amari’s whereabouts.
She looks for him from building to building, asking around about his whereabouts. After what felt like hours of question, a few boys who are playing around indicate that they saw a moor who was by the river on his own.
’’Thank you for your help.’’
Freyr waves at them and leaves. When she arrives by the river, she sees Amari sitting there hugging his legs and resting his chin on his knees. He looks at her and as she slowly approaches him.
’’Maybe I should be alone... Because everyone that comes around me dies.’’
’’Why would you think that? You’re not a curse to anyone.’’
’’But it’s true... Apollo said it, and he isn’t the first one to mention how much danger I bring to my friends.’’
She seats next to him, and they both look at the flow of the river.
’’Do you care about them? Your friends...’’
’’Yes, I do. I care about all of my friends, and I’d do anything for them.’’
’’Then fight, fight for them. Everyone dies in the end but while they’re alive you have to fight for them.’’
’’But I want the fighting to stop.’’
’’No, not fighting physically only.’’ Freyr smirks
’’Then what do you mean then?’’
’’You could fight for them emotionally, by just being there with them when they need you the most. You see, your friend is angry, confused and sad and you are the only one who can support him right now. You need to stick together and fight for one another, as a family.’’
’’A family.’’
Freyr grins while looking at Amari, and Amari grins back.
’’Should we go back?’’
Amari nods and they start walking back to Freyr’s house; while walking through the city they stop at the market and buy some fruits and vegetables. They also stop by the butcher to buy meat.
After a while of buying from the market, they head back. When they arrive at the house they see Apollo drinking coffee with Erling.
’’You’re finally back.’’
The room suddenly becomes silent.
’’How’s the young prince?’’
’’Let’s just say, the king wasn’t happy with him.’’
Freyr starts preparing tea for her and Amari, and Amari sits to the that’s next to Erling and across Apollo.
’’What happened?’’
’’He banned the prince from leaving his room.’’
’’What? Why didn’t you talk to him?’’
’’I tried, but you know my brother, if he makes a decision that he thinks is best he’ll stick with it. He’s that stubborn.’’
’’Well, that’s not surprising.’’
After preparing the tea she gives Amari his cup and joins them at the table.
’’Okay so what about these two, how are their injuries healing?’’
’’Amari is fully healed... surprisingly. And Apollo, he’ll probably take a few days to heal from his wounds.’’
’’I’ve healed.’’ Apollo interrupts.
’’No, you haven’t.’’
’’Yes, I have.’’
Erling presses at Apollo’s ribs where the bandages are, and he reacts in pain. Erling starts to chuckle.
’’Yeah right.’’
...
(At the forest)
Four men of the Wachter Guild approach the scene where Nana was killed. They start investigating the area and find Nana’s head pale and being eaten by crows.
’’Is that a head?’’
’’Fuck!! yes, it is. And it looks like it matches the profile of one the women we’re looking for.’’
’’What about the two boys, where are they?’’
’’No... there’s no sign of them around here... but there are signs of fighting, telling from these claw marks.’’
’’Hey! I found something!’’
The two join their partner while he’s looking at Lewis’s remains.
’’It doesn’t look like this is one of the boys, telling from the size of his shoe. Do you guys think it’s the kidnapper?’’
’’Yeah, it probably was, looks like this was caused by a beast. Do you guys think it took the boys too?’’
’’No.’’
’’Why do you think so?’’
’’Because there’s no blood trail or any sign of them being eaten, except for these two.’’
They go on to investigate further, and one of the men find something that he thinks is a clue of what could’ve happened.
’’There’s no sign of them here, let’s make a move.’’
’’There is a village that’s close from here, we should go and ask them about it.’’
’’Yeah, the Scyl village. But I doubt it, they don’t allow outsiders that easily in there, so we should keep on investigating.’’
’’Wouldn’t hurt trying, we should at least look for anyone who would know about their whereabouts.’’
’’Or if they’re the alive.’’
’’Yeah hopefully.’’
They start moving to investigate in a different location.
...
’’Why are those two not talking to each other I thought they were friends.’’
’’They had a huge fight before you came.’’
Freyr explains the altercation they had earlier that day. Amari gets up and approaches Apollo who is sitting at the side of the dining room.
’’Apollo... Can I talk to you?’’
’’...’’
’’I’m here for you... you are not alone.’’
Apollo looks at Amari with straight face.
’’That ...was so awkward.’’ he chuckles.
’’I just didn’t know how to tell you.’’
’’I’m sorry for what I said earlier, I just... can’t believe she’s gone.’’
’’She’s not gone... She always told me that people don’t die if they are in our hearts.’’
’’But what about when I need, for moments like now... when I was sad, she was always there for me.’’
’’We could always stick together, be what Nana was to us, towards each other.’’
’’You think we can? I don’t think what Nana gave me can be done by anyone but her.’’
’’We don’t have to have a relationship that’s the same as Nana’s and yours, we could have our own.’’
’’That doesn’t sound like a bad idea.’’
Apollo grins and starts to chuckle; and they both start laughing.
’’Looks like the two of you finally made up.’’ Freyr joins.’’ Come the food’s ready.’’
They all go to the dining hall and start feasting.
’’Why are you always here? Aren’t you the king’s brother?’’ Apollo asks while stuffing food into his mouth.
’’Who me?’’
Apollo nods.
’’You know, that’s a good question, why are you always around.’’
’’Because... I like it around here.’’
’’Or you’re just lonely...’’ Amari adds
They start laughing. Everyone in the room start laughing while they’re eating their food.
