Chapter 573: Chapter 177: Buddha Mountain Stewed Bird_1
The Nether River Patriarch said with a helpless face, "Can’t I just be a good person?"
The Emperor of the Perdition City looked at the Nether River Patriarch with a knowing look, and the Nether River Patriarch hung his head in misery, drowning his sorrows in his drink and muttering, "Damn, after the great witch-demon war, I never lifted a finger, so why does everyone call me a bad guy..."
The Emperor of the Perdition City didn’t reply but just chuckled and continued drinking.
The Nether River Patriarch heaved a long sigh and kept on drinking.
Meanwhile, as the night dragged on, Qin Shou simply couldn’t manage to sleep for 18 hours straight...
Waking up in the middle of the night, unable to fall back asleep, Qin Shou got up from the bed, touching his rumbling stomach, and muttered, "As expected, I’m hungry..."
After saying this, Qin Shou checked his Black Demon Box and to his dismay, the food inside was all gone.
"Forget it, I’ll go out and find something to eat," Qin Shou sighed with resignation, closed the Black Demon Box, and stepped out the door.
As soon as he stepped outside, Qin Shou was stunned to see that the sky over Buddha Mountain was full of stars! The countless stars, different from those on Earth but exactly the same as those above the Heavenly Court!
Qin Shou scratched his head, a bit confused. Buddha Mountain didn’t have a sun during the day, nor did it have daylight. How come there were stars at night?
Unable to figure it out, Qin Shou decided not to ponder anymore and would just ask Bodhisattva Ksitigarbha directly when he had the chance.
After circling around his house without finding anything edible, Qin Shou considered going to Li Zhenying to ask if there was anything to eat, but then he thought better of it—it was late, and the girl was probably asleep, best not to disturb her.
Look for the three idiots?
Qin Shou decisively shook his head, still vividly remembering the scene when the three idiots pulled out a saber-toothed fish and stuffed it into the mouth of the Sun Wandering God...
Besides, judging from the bizarre items they had dished out that day, the culinary preferences of those three fellows were completely different from Qin Shou’s.
Qin Shou was even less inclined to seek out Lady Diyong; having been around her for so long, he had never seen her eat anything. As it seemed, she always maintained the habit of absorbing the Spiritual Energy of heaven and earth to sustain herself...
Qin Shou could do the same, but he was different from everyone else.
Some people eat just to maintain a habit from their past lives as humans or to satisfy their gourmand cravings.
But Qin Shou was different, his body’s energy consumption was exceptionally high. He ate not only because of gluttony, but also because the Yuan Qi he absorbed simply couldn’t meet the demands of his physical body! His corporeal form’s consumption included not just Yuan Qi, but also the most primal energies contained in food. Moreover, Qin Shou’s appetite was getting better, and his portion size was growing larger. He had noticed this situation a long time ago, which is why he hoarded a bunch of delicacies containing the Yuan Qi of heaven and earth when he left the Dragon Palace. As a result, he still underestimated his own appetite and never expected to finish all the food so quickly.
Touching his growling stomach, Qin Shou casually chose a path and started walking up the mountain, all the while trying to sniff out a whiff of something tasty.
To Qin Shou’s frustration, the mountain air was crisp and clean, and aside from the northwest wind, there was no scent of anything edible.
Gurgle...
Suddenly, a strange noise caught Qin Shou’s attention!
Qin Shou suddenly looked up to see an owl perched on a tree, staring at him with its large eyes!
Qin Shou likewise widened his eyes as he stared back at the owl!
After a while, Qin Shou discerned something from the owl’s gaze – it seemed to be hungry!
As the two locked eyes once more and affirmed their mutual understanding, the owl suddenly spread its wings and swooped down with a push of its legs!
Without a word, Qin Shou conjured a large pot with one hand and a pot lid with the other, promptly trapping the descending owl with a clang!
"Hey, I was feeling hungry myself, and you just flew right into the pot. You can’t blame me for this, can you?" Qin Shou laughed contentedly.
After observing for a while, he had confirmed that the owl was still an ordinary one that hadn’t awakened its spiritual intelligence. Of course, saying it was ordinary was not quite right either. It was tinged with Buddha energy, and it was only a matter of time before it became a sentient spirit.
If the owl hadn’t harbored murderous intent towards Qin Shou first, he would have had a bit of difficulty making a move.
But since it attacked him of its own accord, Qin Shou certainly didn’t hold back.
Finding a secluded spot against the northern wind, Qin Shou skillfully and smoothly plucked the feathers from the owl, cleaned it, and then tossed various ingredients into the pot to start stir-frying over a high flame, followed by a slow simmer...
While stewing, Qin Shou took out a gourd and started drinking spicy soup. Sipping away, he looked up at the star-filled sky and murmured to himself, "There’s a sky full of stars, but no moon. It must be fake!"
"It’s real." Just then, a voice sounded near Qin Shou’s ear.
Startled, Qin Shou looked up abruptly to see a young monk clad in white robes standing behind him at some unknown time.
Qin Shou instinctively glanced at the steaming pot he was tending...
The young monk chuckled and said, "You are not a monk, so eating meat is not something I would concern myself with."
Relieved, Qin Shou grinned and said, "For saying that, I like you. I’ll share a bird leg with you later!"
The smile on the young monk’s face instantly froze, and he pressed his palms together, saying, "Amitabha, as a monk, I naturally do not partake in meat."
Qin Shou waved his hand dismissively, "I know you’re a monk, but I’ve seen monks who eat meat before. When I was up in heaven, I saw a monk eating meat at a gathering filled with gods and Buddha. If he could do it, naturally so could you, right?"
The young monk shook his head, "You’re talking about Ji Dian, the Dragon Subduing Arhat, right? His mouth possesses the miracle of bringing the dead back to life. He can eat a dead chicken and later spit out a live one. Naturally, that’s not considered killing nor breaking the precepts."
Qin Shou thought for a moment. Ji Dian had indeed performed this feat, but still unwilling to give up, he asked, "Can’t you do it?"
The young monk shook his head, "The great Dao of the world is vast; there’s no way to master it all. Ji Dian’s magic is, for now, something only he possesses."
"Is it that hard to learn?" asked Qin Shou.
"It’s not about being hard to learn, but as each person comprehends the Heavenly Dao, it tailors the Dao for them based on their individuality. Moreover, the same Dao is perceived differently by different people, leading to a wide divergence in understanding. For two individuals to grasp the exact same Dao, the only way would be for one to write down their entire comprehension and teach the other. Of course, with countless beings in the world, there might be some whose understandings resonate with each other. However, Ji Dian’s Dao is truly mystical, encompassing the mysteries of reincarnation and rebirth; even he can’t explain it clearly, let alone others learn from it. Hence, this magic remains unique to him, and he’s become the sole meat-eating monk on Buddha Mountain."
