Rabbit Must Die
Chapter 559 - 163: Watch the Dog!_1

Chapter 559: Chapter 163: Watch the Dog!_1

Xunxiang immediately broke into a delighted laugh, "Dragon is right, if that rabbit lives in the Bloody Nether Sea, then it’s definitely a Rabbit Asura! Maybe it’s even a new species deliberately created by the Nether River Patriarch! Oh, let me guess, now that Asuras are already major demons that everyone wants to beat up and can’t leave the Nether River."

"But if he sends out a rabbit, surely no one would pay much attention. And if these rabbits multiplied en masse and suddenly went on a rampage... tsk tsk, that would truly be disastrous for all living creatures."

With that thought in mind, capturing it, interrogating it, soul-searching—all are measures to ensure peace for the world, so naturally, any method goes!"

Heaven didn’t say a word, but the others were nodding in agreement.

Xunxiang smiled even more brightly, "Since no one has any objections, then it’s my turn to go, isn’t it?"

Garuda said, "Xunxiang is the best at tracking by scent. Since Mahoraga has been in contact with the rabbit, he must carry its scent. It would be convenient for Xunxiang to track the rabbit. Otherwise, if someone else went, they’d be blindly searching in the vast Blood Sea. Running into it would be a matter of luck, and if they don’t encounter it for ten or eight years, that would be a waste of time."

The crowd nodded in agreement again.

Xunxiang gave Garuda an approving glance and then stood up to approach Mahoraga. After a casual sniff, he curled his lips and said, "The rabbit has a bit of a woman’s scent. Seems like it has a woman by its side."

Mahoraga was taken aback and said, "What? I didn’t see any woman."

Xunxiang disdainfully said, "Even if you had seen her, would you remember?"

Mahoraga was at a loss for words...

Xunxiang casually grasped at the air, and a wisp of scent flew out from Mahoraga’s body, landing in Xunxiang’s hand. It then transformed into a plump rabbit. Xunxiang said, "Alright, I’m off to catch the rabbit. If things go smoothly, maybe I can join everyone for dinner... hmm, let’s have roasted rabbit, haha..."

With high spirits, Xunxiang left.

After Xunxiang had gone some distance, Garuda expressed worry, "Isn’t it a bit inappropriate for Xunxiang to go alone..."

Then, Heaven finally spoke, "Let her go. Her earlier suggestion was improper. The rabbit hasn’t done anything, but she wants to search its soul and ruin its spiritual foundation—this is no different from what demons do. Moreover, as Buddha has said, not all Asuras are bad, suffering a bit of hardship might actually be good for her."

"Among the Asuras are strong beings who don’t show mercy to women, and ganging up is the norm. What if she never returns?" Garuda asked.

Heaven replied with a slight smile, "Buddha is watching. If she doesn’t return, then she need not return at all. What do you think?"

Heaven looked towards Dragon.

Dragon said with a wry smile, "Big brother is right, I was mistaken," and Heaven nodded slightly.

However, Garuda, Kinnara, and Yasha seemed not to agree with Heaven’s words. They hung their heads low, not speaking, and exchanged glances as if communicating something.

Suddenly, Heaven shook his head, "Buddha is everywhere."

With those words, Garuda, Kinnara, and Yasha were startled and then realized what Heaven meant. They promptly stood up to salute Heaven and said in unison, "Thank you for the reminder, big brother. We were about to forget. Buddha’s law sees all beings in the Nether Sea, and should Xunxiang be in trouble, Buddha would surely offer protection. There’s really no need for us to worry..."

Heaven nodded, and everyone laughed.

However, at this very moment, on the summit of Buddha Mountain, in the cave where Bodhisattva Ksitigarbha resided...

A chessboard and two stone stools, each occupied by a person.

One was a monk, his face as serene as jade, a handsome young monk.

Sitting opposite the young monk was an old man, dressed in a blood-red robe, casually picking at his toes.

The two were none other than Bodhisattva Ksitigarbha and the Nether River Patriarch mentioned by the Eight Heavenly Dragons!

Not far from them lay an exotic beast with a tiger’s head, a single horn, dog ears, a dragon’s body, a lion’s tail, and kylin’s feet. The beast had its eyes closed and seemed to be sleeping, with light snoring indicating a deep slumber. Either it was an utterly carefree worthless creature, or it had long been used to their company. The exotic beast was none other than Diting, the listener of Bodhisattva Ksitigarbha...

"Look here, little monk, you were liberally reflecting light and disturbing my peace again... What’s the matter? You really want to start a fight?" The Nether River Patriarch said as he picked his toes, nonchalantly placing a white chess piece onto the board, without so much as a glance at the pitiful piece that was immediately surrounded and doomed to capture upon placement.

Bodhisattva Ksitigarbha said with a gentle smile, "That Buddha’s light can protect us and ensure tranquility. Besides, those who die all go to your cycle of reincarnation, don’t they? Those with strong wills enter the cycle, and after reincarnation, you focus on cultivating them. This is a blessing for them as well. As for those who have become my arhats, that was an agreement we had made before.

If one who possesses the body of a Three-lives Asura still cannot see through the essence of an Asura and is converted, such a person can be taken by me. And besides, if I left them with you, what would you do?

By taking them with me, you can save yourself quite some trouble, I am essentially cleaning up your backyard for you.

I didn’t ask you for a service fee, yet you come knocking on my door first, accusing me of wrongdoing. What’s the logic in that?"

The Nether River Patriarch spat, and then flicked the chess piece he just placed off the board, shamelessly saying, "I made a mistake, I made a mistake. I take it back, I take it back!"

Bodhisattva Ksitigarbha seemed to be long accustomed to the old man’s rascally nature, not stopping him from taking his move back, and simply commented, "What’s the point of regretting moves? My friend, with your chess skills, wouldn’t an early or late death be the same thing?"

The Nether River Patriarch glared at Bodhisattva Ksitigarbha, then confidently declared, "A struggle even for a moment is still a moment, that is the way of the Asura!"

Bodhisattva Ksitigarbha shook his head and said, "I think, what you’re doing is not the way of an Asura, but rather, the way of a scoundrel."

The Nether River Patriarch said as if it were the most natural thing in the world, "Heaven and earth are not benevolent, treating all beings as straw dogs. In the eyes of heaven and earth, there’s no difference between us and the grass tails by the roadside. Whether it is you or I, or the living creatures of the world, we are all but expendable beings in the eyes of the cosmos. Life is not easy, so how can one just die so readily? Heaven is vast, earth is large, but being alive is of the utmost importance. I just want to struggle on no matter what. Who cares by what means?"

Bodhisattva Ksitigarbha sighed and was about to say something when the Nether River Patriarch chuckled and said, "Don’t even try to refute me. If you truly had the resolve of ’I will not attain Buddhahood until the hells are emptied’, would you be here borrowing a mountain from me to squat on rather than marching up to Spirit Mountain with a kitchen knife to seize a peak and be a Buddha yourself? Besides, Spirit Mountain is vast. You could simply wander there and find a Pure Land to rule without any trouble, right? So why do you stay here, seeking tranquility? What is it that you really want?"

Bodhisattva Ksitigarbha looked down at the chessboard, waiting expectantly, and said, "It’s your move."

The Nether River Patriarch curled his lip and said, "Every time I ask you, you never say. I get it without you saying... Ah, seeking tranquility, how can I find tranquility here? I say, why not join me in the Nether River? You can be the second-in-command, and I’ll be the boss. If any of those thieving baldies from Spirit Mountain come here, we’ll just beat them up! Why do you have to play this act with me, exchanging for quietude?"

Bodhisattva Ksitigarbha chuckled and continued to urge, "It’s your turn."

The Nether River Patriarch looked at his own scattered chess pieces on the board and, all of a sudden, turned his head, pointed at Diting, and yelled, "Look, there’s a dog!"
