Chapter 349: 346 Ping is at the bottom of the mountain_1
Qin Shou entered Shushan and had just jumped down from the vessel when he saw that Wenqu Star Monarch was already sitting on a stone at the shore, waiting for him.
Qin Shou said in surprise, "Master, how come you are here?"
Wenqu Star Monarch raised an eyebrow and said, "This morning, as soon as I woke up, my eyelid began twitching, and I felt that trouble was on its way. Sure enough, no sooner had I sat down than you showed up..."
Qin Shou’s face turned red as he said, "Master, just because I’ve come doesn’t mean I’ve brought trouble with me."
Wenqu Star Monarch didn’t say anything, just stared straight at Qin Shou with an expression that said you’re a walking disaster!
Qin Shou’s face became even redder, but although he no longer had hair on his face, his skin was still as thick as ever, so he pretended not to understand Wenqu Star Monarch’s implication and chuckled, "Master, may I inquire about something?"
Wenqu Star Monarch remained silent, simply extending a hand.
Understanding the hint, Qin Shou handed over a jar of wine. Wenqu Star broke the seal and sniffed the aroma, then nodded slightly before saying, "Speak, what is it?"
Qin Shou asked, "Do you know about Emperor Shun of the Yu Family?"
Wenqu Star Monarch nodded to signal his acknowledgement.
Qin Shou continued, "I heard he was buried in Jiuyi Mountain. Is there something special about that Jiuyi Mountain?"
Qin Shou actually wanted to ask directly about the Chonghua Sutra, but he thought that the immortals all seemed to disapprove of him practicing cultivation techniques, so he decided not to mention it.
Wenqu Star Monarch glanced at Qin Shou and clearly understood what he was really after, but chose not to expose his thoughts. Instead, after taking a sip of wine, he said indifferently, "Rabbit, have you ever heard a saying?"
Qin Shou looked up attentively, listening.
Wenqu Star Monarch stood up, leading Qin Shou to the summit of Shushan, looking over the churning mist over the sea of books, and said, "The ancients say, ’ten thousand li of rivers and mountains bow to Jiuyi,’ meaning that all the landscapes of the world pay homage to Jiuyi Mountain in a prostrating manner. Jiuyi Mountain is also known as the birthplace of the dragon vein! How could I not know?"
Upon hearing this, Qin Shou was genuinely startled. He knew Jiuyi Mountain was impressive, but he didn’t expect it to be this formidable!
Qin Shou scratched his head and said, "Master, isn’t it said that the Five Sacred Mountains take precedence in the world?"
Wenqu Star Monarch took another drink and said, "That’s only in the present."
Qin Shou looked puzzled at Wenqu Star Monarch.
Wenqu Star Monarch sighed and explained, "It’s said that in ancient times, Jiuyi Mountain was the genuine ancestral land of the dragon vein, believed to be where the Ancestral Dragon could emerge and take control of the Heavenly Court once again."
When Qin Shou heard this, he was truly alarmed. Such a rumor was frightening! It was tantamount to rebellion!
Wenqu Star Monarch continued, "Later, Emperor Shun died at Cangwu Mountain and was buried at the Shunyuan Peak in the center of Jiuyi Mountain. Nine streams flow from Jiuyi Mountain, converging and forming the two rivers of Xiao and Xiang... The flow of these two rivers nourished the land.
Later, Emperor Shun’s wives, Erhuang and Nvying, died of sorrowful lamentation at the foot of Jiuyi Mountain, thus they were also referred to as the Ladies of Xiang.
Later still, an emperor came to Jiuyi Mountain, saw the lay of its land, and was greatly alarmed. He ordered a fortune-teller to divine the implications of Jiuyi Mountain’s terrain.
The fortune-teller, being very skilled, told him, ’Here lies the concentrated might of all the mountains and rivers under heaven; there will surely arise someone from this place who can overturn the world.’
The emperor, furious, commanded the fortune-teller to change all this.
The fortune-teller then made a suggestion, ’You could have people change the course of the Xiao and Xiang rivers so that they flow through the interior of Jiuyi Mountain, dispersing its concentrated might, spreading the world’s fortune everywhere, thereby breaking the mountain’s terrain.’
Thus, the emperor ordered his men to carve paths through mountains, divert the Xiao and Xiang rivers into Jiuyi Mountain, breaking open the grand situation of the Ancestral Dragon emerging from the depths!"
Upon hearing this, Qin Shou exclaimed in admiration, "Impressive! But I hear there’s a city beneath Jiuyi Mountain called Lingling, where the descendants of Emperor Shun dwell. Did they just watch as this emperor carved mountains and diverted rivers, destroying the feng shui of their ancestor’s tomb?"
Wenqu Star Monarch smiled slightly but didn’t say anything more; there were clearly other secrets involved, but he chose to remain silent.
Seeing this, Qin Shou had a bold idea. Could it be that emperor was not one of the mortal realm? But he didn’t dare to ask; not because he feared death, but because it would be pointless—Wenqu Star would most likely not respond at all.
When Wenqu Star Monarch got to this point, he sighed and said, "Even though the landscape of Jiuyi Mountain has been damaged, it remains a rare and prosperous vein of the world! The descendants of Emperor Shun are full of skillful masters. They are a top-notch power in the whole Cangwu Mountain and even across Yunmeng Marsh; nobody dares to underestimate them. Over the years, there have been no fewer than a hundred Earthly Immortals among the descendants of Emperor Shun! There are as many as ten Heavenly Immortals! Some even say that within the descendants of Emperor Shun, there may be Golden Immortals. But these are all legends, unseen by anyone..."
Rabbit, you ask these questions; are you going to attend that great ceremony of worship?"
Qin Shou nodded eagerly like a pecking chick and said, "Yes, I thought it looked interesting. Master, besides what you just mentioned, are there any other interesting rumors about Emperor Shun?"
Wenqu Star Monarch thought for a moment and said, "Nothing else. However, I have made a special study of Jiuyi Mountain and it seems that it is not as simple as it appears. It seems to be a natural great formation, but I also cannot deduce what kind of formation it might be—just a sixth sense feeling. Perhaps my feeling is completely wrong... Rabbit, Emperor Shun was a grace to the world. I don’t care how naughty you usually are, but I won’t allow you to covet Emperor Shun’s Mausoleum, understand?"
Qin Shou nodded seriously like a pecking chick and said, "Master, rest assured, although I am no good thing, I still know the difference between right and wrong. How could I ever desecrate Emperor Shun’s acheivements by digging up his tomb? If it must be dug, I’d have to find someone else to do it..."
Before he could finish, Wenqu Star abruptly stood up, staring solemnly at Qin Shou and said, "Rabbit, you wouldn’t be thinking of..."
Qin Shou looked at Wenqu Star Monarch with a dumbfounded face, waiting for the words to come.
But Wenqu Star Monarch suddenly cut himself off, shook his head and said, "Never mind, Rabbit, go have fun, but be mindful of propriety. Don’t tarnish the name of Wenqu Palace. Especially at the great ceremony in honor of Emperor Shun, which is the foremost in righteousness under heaven. If you embarrass yourself, it’s not just your face you’ll lose, but that of all your masters, understand?"
Qin Shou nodded earnestly, remembering his words.
Qin Shou might not care about his own face, but now that he had family and friends, he understood that he could lose face, but he could not let down his masters.
After leaving Wenqu Star Palace, Qin Shou’s mood was far from relaxed; a sentence from Wenqu Star Monarch lingered in his mind: "Rabbit, you wouldn’t be thinking of..."
Thinking of what?
Could it be that there is more than one tomb in Jiuyi Mountain? Aside from Emperor Shun’s Mausoleum, who else would be there?
Qin Shou was completely perplexed.
Qin Shou then went around to visit the Kitchen God and Master Lu, asking the same questions, but the two of them had more or less the same knowledge about Jiuyi Mountain and Emperor Shun as Wenqu Star did; nothing more could be gleaned.
Having no other choice, Qin Shou bid them farewell and left.
Back on the moon, he informed Chang’e that he would be away for a few days. Chang’e did not hold him back but instead reminded him to be careful while traveling.
Time flew by swiftly, and a month passed in what seemed like an instant.
As the great ceremony of Emperor Shun’s Heavenly Sacrifice was about to commence, Qin Shou packed his belongings and, after bidding farewell to Chang’e, headed straight for the Southern Gate, leaving the Heavenly Court. He followed the directions given to him by Dog Xiaotian.
In the southern region of the South Shanbu Continent, there are twin rivers named the Xiao and Xiang. The upper stream is called Xiao River, while the downstream is referred to as Xiang River...
The twin rivers are actually the same watershed, originating from the same place. Some say they stem from Jiuyi Mountain, but others claim they originate from Blue Mountain. However, the two sources are not far apart, and either claim could be considered valid...
Qin Shou originally thought he would have to inquire his way there, but soon he realized that his worries were unnecessary. He saw numerous flying swords and escape lights in the sky, countless Immortals riding various bizarre demon beasts, divine beasts, and birds, all heading in one direction.
From afar, Qin Shou could hear the loud voices of cultivators shouting: "Hey, Master Mu, are you also going to attend Emperor Shun’s Heavenly Sacrifice ceremony?"
"Yes, brother, you’re going too?"
Conversations like this were plentiful, and Qin Shou was quite certain he no longer needed to ask for directions—just following these people would suffice.
Qin Shou was happy to go with the flow, and as he was flying along, he heard a thunderous commotion ahead, with roars resounding non-stop!
Of course, other sounds and visual spectacles were secondary. What stood out was one guy’s extremely loud voice, who bellowed with domineering presence: "Damn it! So many arrogant folks, yet not one who can fight! All you creatures flying in the sky, what the hell are you staring at! If you disagree, come down here and fight! I, Ping, could take ten of you by myself!"
