QT: The Rescue Of The Miserable Bigshots -
Chapter 243 - 8.30
Chapter 243: 8.30
In the corner, Jiang Jiamian, who was still unnoticed, rolled his eyes in exasperation. When he turned around, he saw Fu Yanchen’s face darken at what someone had just said.
Jiang Jiamian quickly gave a dry laugh and held his hand comfortingly.
Looked like it was time for him to put on a show.
He hadn’t come here to act, but now, the stage was set, and he had to step in.
He had to show these people, especially the one who just spoke up, that he was clearly not inside. Let them open their eyes and see the truth.
Jiang Jiamian made his face go pale. He stood up unsteadily, wearing a shocked, devastated expression. He stumbled toward the corridor with disbelief on his face, voice trembling, "Was... was that Xiaoyuan’s voice? Who’s he in there with?!"
The hall had already quieted, but when he stood up and spoke, everyone turned their attention to him.
Their expressions shifted instantly.
If Jiang Jiamian was here, then who was the one inside with the Second Young Master of the Fu family?
Hiss... this was going to be exciting!
Those who knew that Fu Xiaoyuan didn’t actually like his fiance started to understand.
Clearly, he and his lover had gotten drunk and lost control, right during the banquet.
Poor Young Master Jiang. The serious, proper fiance, how unlucky to be humiliated like this in public.
"Who is he in there with?!"
Jiang Jiamian looked like a heartbroken fool, blinking back tears. He stumbled forward, seemingly desperate to know the truth.
"Shut up!"
Mr. Fu, already on the edge with rage, snapped. Seeing Jiang Jiamian add to the spectacle, he lost control and barked at him, "Why are you yelling and making a scene? Xiaoyuan did something wrong, I’ll deal with him. You want to be the Fu family’s son-in-law, don’t make yourself a joke!"
Before Jiang Jiamian could rush forward, his parents stepped in.
They grabbed him firmly on both sides. "Jiamian!"
Seeing Mr. Fu take his anger out on their son, the victim, the Jiang couple’s expressions turned cold.
Father Jiang pulled Jiamian to his side and faced Mr. Fu directly, "What do you mean, Mr. Fu? Are we the ones being laughed at here? Fu Xiaoyuan shamed our family in public, and now our son isn’t even allowed to react? He has to endure humiliation and still play the role of your son-in-law? Still cover for your precious Fu family?"
Mr. Fu’s face froze. He could feel the judgmental gazes around him. Forcing his anger down, he tried to soften his tone, "Of course not. I’m just worried Jiamian would be too upset. What happened today was Xiaoyuan’s fault. He drank too much and lost control. I’ll have him apologize later."
He didn’t want to cancel the engagement. Not now.
Better to swallow his pride and try to patch things up with the Jiang family.
He would never allow Tang Tang to step into the Fu family!
And if this engagement broke off, it would be nearly impossible to find a suitable match. After this scandal, half the potential families would withdraw.
Outwardly, Mr. Fu offered apologies, but inside, he was furious. How did he raise such a disgrace like Fu Xiaoyuan?
The Fu family had lost face today.
Even their long-standing business reputation might take a hit.
Father Jiang sneered, "There’s no need. Apologies mean nothing now. Since Fu Xiaoyuan has done this, let’s make things clear right here: the engagement is over. We’ll return the engagement gifts and end this properly."
"You! You! You! Jiang Zhihong!"
Mr. Fu trembled with rage. His hand pointed at Father Jiang, shaking uncontrollably.
"Don’t you forget it was your Jiang family who begged for this marriage! You think the Fu family actually needed it? We agreed out of ten years of cooperation and goodwill! Without us, how long do you think the Jiang family would last in this city?"
He was trying to twist it with threats and false sentiment, but his tone gave him away.
It was just arrogance.
But Father Jiang wasn’t intimidated. Holding Jiamian’s arm with his wife, he said firmly, "Whether we survive or not is our own business. One thing is certain, Jiamian will not marry into your Fu family."
Mr. Fu’s face burned with humiliation. The Jiang family, who once groveled to him, was now stomping on his pride in public.
His mask dropped completely. "Break this marriage, and you become our enemy. Don’t think I won’t retaliate. I won’t spell it out, but you know what that means."
Father Jiang only laughed. "Only you, Mr. Fu, could turn a broken engagement into a threat. Are you saying you’ll crush our family now?"
But he had already made up his mind.
Even if the Fu family tried to retaliate, he’d leave the city with his wife and son if he had to.
Better that than sending his child into a nest of wolves.
It was over. There was no going back.
And if things were going to break, let them break completely.
In the corner, Fu Yanchen sat under the dim lights, watching the Jiang family stand together.
His heart was in turmoil.
Not because of anger, but something deeper, something hollow.
Ever since Jiang Jiamian walked away with his parents, Fu Yanchen had wanted to chase after him.
But what position did he even have?
He wasn’t anything to him, not a fiance, not a lover, not a family.
And watching the three of them, sharing the same blood, facing the world side by side...
He felt like a complete outsider.
Sadness gave way to envy.
That kind of family, warmth, protection, love, it was something he had only dreamed of as a child.
"This isn’t a threat." Mr. Fu finally muttered. He saw that the Jiang family wouldn’t back down, so he changed tactics.
His pride slipped back into place. "I’m just concerned for you. Where do you get the confidence to go up against the Fu family? Jinsheng’s Group support? You think they’ll really protect you? They’re just using you to get back at me. When they’re done, they’ll throw you away. And the Fu family won’t show mercy then."
Father Jiang replied curtly, "No need to worry about us."
In truth, he wasn’t sure how long they could rely on Jinsheng. Fu Yanchen had made that deal happen, but the future was uncertain.
Still, the Fu family was no longer an option.
The Jiang parents looked at each other, said nothing more, and led their son out.
The crowd, awkward and silent, tried to make themselves as invisible as possible. They wished they could follow the Jiang family and vanish from this mess.
"Dad, Mom, wait!"
Just as they reached the door, Jiang Jiamian suddenly stopped and broke free.
"Jiamian!"
Father Jiang reached for him instinctively, fearing he might go back to Fu Xiaoyuan in some moment of misplaced compassion.
But Jiang Jiamian was already walking away.
Before Mr. Fu could scoff, thinking he was crawling back, Jiang Jiamian walked straight to the corner, straight to a man in a wheelchair that everyone recognized.
Fu Yanchen.
Gasps rippled quietly through the room.
But that couldn’t be right. Jiang Jiamian and Fu Yanchen?
No way.
After all, Fu Yanchen was useless now. A cripple, a shadow of his former self in the Fu family.
Who would be stupid enough to get involved with him?
And then Jiang Jiamian spoke with a clear and composed voice, "Fu Yanchen, I’m sorry. I almost forgot I’m your personal rehabilitation specialist now."
Fu Yanchen, whose heart had frozen like a block of ice after watching Jiamian leave with his family, visibly began to melt.
He nodded calmly, but his heart was warm, "It’s alright. The banquet’s almost over. I was planning to leave too. Let’s go together."
"Okay!"
Jiang Jiamian smiled gently and, ignoring everyone, including the stiff-faced Mr. Fu, pushed Fu Yanchen’s wheelchair toward the exit.
The hall was left in stunned silence.
Mr. Fu stood trembling, his vision darkening, barely able to stay upright.
"Everyone... leave. I’m not feeling well. That’s all for tonight."
Even his voice sounded weak now.
The guests breathed a collective sigh of relief and quickly dispersed.
The Fu family was still a powerful entity, this wasn’t something to laugh at openly.
But no one would forget this night.
The grand hall emptied quickly, leaving only a few waiters standing quietly in the corners.
