Chapter 90: Chapter 90, Separate Dinner Party
Tongtian General handed over the task of the farewell party to Bai Jin, who then immediately delegated it to Shi Ji. At Shi Ji’s command, Jie Sect Disciples sprang into action, hustling to procure the needed items, with those who had belongings offering them up and those without running errands and lending their strength.
Three days later, on the night of the full moon, atop Kunlun Peak, the three Sect Hierarchs sat in a circle under a tea tree.
Halfway down the mountain hung a colorful orb of light, illuminating the entire Kunlun Mountain Range in festive, vibrant hues.
At the foot of the mountain, Three Sects Disciples sat at separate tables, drinking and eating meat, calling out to friends in what seemed, at least on the surface, like a harmonious gathering.
At Bai Jin’s table sat Shi Ji, Gu Liang, Golden Light Immortal, and other close Disciple comrades. In the center of the table boiled a hot pot, with Gu Liang’s little face flushed red from eating, beaming with happiness.
A graceful figure with a bamboo basket approached the table, stood in front, and called out with a smile, "Brother Bai Jin~"
Bai Jin immediately stood up, laughing as he corrected himself, "Sister... oops, my mistake, it’s junior brother. Good evening, Junior Brother Ci Hang."
Ci Hang’s smile froze as a vein on his forehead throbbed. Damn that Bai Jin, how dare he insult me like this?
Taking a deep breath to suppress his anger, Ci Hang managed a forced smile and said, "Brother, you’re still such a joker. I have offended you previously, please don’t take it to heart, Brother Bai Jin!"
"Junior brother, what are you talking about? Offend me? Wasn’t that just siblings of the same sect sparring? Us Three Sects Disciples have always been fond of each other," Bai Jin said with a look of bafflement.
Ci Hang watched Bai Jin silently, shocked that such shameless words could spill from his mouth. Does he have no face at all? A wave of realization washed over him: it’s no wonder we can’t beat him. A person with no face is truly invincible.
Thinking of Bai Jin’s impending departure from Kunlun Mountain, to continue troubling his pitiful senior and junior brothers, Ci Hang’s heart lightened, and he wore a smile on his face.
Bai Jin asked with curiosity, "Junior brother, is there something you need?"
Shaking his head and smiling, Ci Hang responded, "Nothing, just wanted to see you, Brother. Afraid it might be a long while before we see each other again."
He pinched out a wine cup between delicate fingers, holding it up and saying, "Brother, let me toast to you."
Standing up with his cup, Bai Jin laughed and said, "Alright, please go ahead, junior brother!"
They lifted their cups, drank down their wine, exchanged smiles, and then Bai Jin sat back down as Ci Hang, basket in hand, turned and left.
Gu Liang looked up and instantly fixed her gaze on the bamboo basket in Ci Hang’s grasp, pouting and exclaiming indignantly, "Damn it! My Golden Needle Mushrooms."
Only then did Bai Jin notice the basket in Ci Hang’s hand. Golden Needle Mushroom? Glancing back at the self-made bacon in front of him, a thought flashed across his mind; Golden Needle Mushroom wrapped in bacon might be quite delicious!
Ci Hang returned to the Chan Sect’s seating area, placing the basket on the table and cheerfully announced, "Dear brothers and junior sisters, let’s add a dish to our feast."
"Many thanks, junior brother!"
"Haha~ These Golden Needle Mushrooms look quite good."
"Many thanks, brother!"
...
Gu Liang leaped up, hands on hips, and shouted furiously, "Ci Hang, those are MY Golden Needle Mushrooms."
Ci Hang turned with a smile and countered, "Junior Sister, you must be mistaken, right?! These Golden Needle Mushrooms were foraged by me in the mountains." He held up a mushroom and tossed it into the pot, immediately releasing a rich mushroom aroma.
Jie Sect Disciples aware of the situation glared ragefully at All Immortals of the Chan Sect, outrageously incensed, while the unenlightened ones whispered inquiries among themselves. Soon, everyone knew about the tussle between Gu Liang and Ci Hang.
Senior Brother Duobao laughed and said, "Well then! I shall also add a dish for our Jie Sect junior brothers and sisters."
With a wave of his hand, a large crystal-clear piece of meat, scales still attached, shimmered into existence before him.
Huang Long’s complexion changed as he instinctively covered his waist with his hand.
"Divide~"
A gigantic piece of dragon meat instantly split into slices, tum-tum-tum dropping one by one into the hot pots of many Jie Sect Disciples.
Bai Jin’s arm rested on the table as he rubbed his forehead, "Ugh~ My head hurts, it really hurts!"
Thump~ Huang Long slapped the table and suddenly stood up, exclaiming furiously, "Duobao! You’re going too far!"
All the other Chan Sect Golden Immortals also stood up, their faces ashen with anger.
Whoosh~ All the Jie Sect Immortals also abruptly stood up, glaring with hostility, the tension-filled atmosphere on the brink of eruption.
Bai Jin raised his head and said somberly, "Master and Master’s brother have said that anyone who dares to cause trouble will be expelled from the sect."
The faces of many Jie Sect Disciples and Chan Sect Disciples changed at once.
Holding up a cup of wine, Huang Long said with a smile, "Senior Brother Duobao, parting is such sweet sorrow, my heart is heavy, but I toast to you, wishing you advance swiftly on the Great Tao."
Duobao lifted his cup, took a sip, nodded with a smile, and said, "You’re welcome to visit our Jie Sect any time, brother. I will always receive you with enthusiasm and open arms."
All Jie Sect Disciples and Chan Sect Disciples raised their cups from a distance, drank, and then sat down laughing and joking, returning the scene to a harmonious and joyful one.
...
At the summit of Taiching Peak, Taiqing, Yuqing, and Shangqing sat under a shimmering crystal tea tree, observing the harmonious scene of the Three Sects Disciples below.
Taiqing said with emotion, "Parting does bring up some feelings."
Tongtian replied with a smile, "No need to be sentimental. A Saint’s thoughts traverse the Primordial World, so distance means nothing."
Primordial turned to look at Tongtian, speaking irritably, "It seems like you can’t wait to leave Kunlun."
Tongtian replied unhappily, "Second brother, what do you mean by that? Would I, Tongtian, disregard our brotherhood of tens of thousands of years and wish to leave you? When the principles of the Tao clash, what can one do?!"
"It’s all excuses!"
Taishang knocked on the table, thump, thump, thump, and said helplessly, "Alright, enough bickering!"
Tongtian and Primordial both snorted coldly and turned their heads away.
After a moment, Primordial couldn’t help but say, "Tongtian, after you establish your sect, don’t act recklessly anymore. Don’t just accept any kind of demon or spirit into your fold. In choosing disciples, virtue is paramount. Do not diminish your status as a Saint for no good reason."
"All Ten Thousand Spirits have hearts yearning for the Tao; how can we cut off others’ paths to enlightenment based on personal preferences?!"
"The Tao should not be imparted lightly!"
"Diffusing the Tao throughout the Primordial World is my wish."
Primordial and Tongtian faced each other across the table, one’s eyes ablaze with righteous indignation, the other’s gaze resolute and unwavering.
Taishang held his head in his hand, sighing~ My head hurts~ It really hurts.
After a while, Taishang cleared his throat to alleviate the awkward atmosphere, "Tongtian, where do you plan to establish your sect?"
Tongtian turned his eyes and said, "I will go Overseas."
Primordial frowned and replied, "Overseas?" instinctively retorting, "No?"
"Why not?"
"Overseas breeds are mostly fierce fighters, not suited for spreading teachings."
"Second brother, if they are indeed warriors and brawlers, then they are in even more need of guidance."
"If I say no, it’s no!"
Taishang slowly said, "Second brother, let him go. If he stays in the Primordial Land, a conflict between the Jie Sect and Chan Sect is inevitable sooner or later."
Primordial frowned subconsciously, then nodded with resignation, "Overseas can work, but you should listen more to Bai Jin. Among your disciples, only Bai Jin truly has your best interests at heart."
Tongtian nodded, turned his head and looked down, his eyes resting on that figure. Bai Jin sometimes played little tricks; Tongtian was well aware of all this, yet he never really took it to heart. Sometimes he even joked with Bai Jin. It was because Tongtian also knew that of all his disciples, Bai Jin was the one who cared about him the most.
