Chapter 249: Chapter 223, Ksitigarbha Makes a Mistake
Bai Jin stumbled and appeared, standing on Three Lights Immortal Island, muttering to himself: "It’s over, Eldest Uncle is going to be angry, I must hide, but where can I hide?"
Eldest Uncle is angry, anyway, Master can’t protect me now, let alone Second Master. I can only go to the Underworld now, Pingxin Goddess should be helpful, right?!
Bai Jin summoned a scepter in his hand, and his figure instantly disappeared.
In the Netherworld, Pingxin Goddess was lying on a lounge chair, with a plate of fruits beside her, while a bald man was kneeling on the floor with a cloth, wiping the floor slowly.
Bai Jin ran in from outside, cheerfully calling out, "Goddess~ I’ve come to see you."
Pingxin Goddess glanced at Bai Jin and said, "Come here!"
"Alright~" Bai Jin trotted over and sat cross-legged beside Pingxin Goddess on a green stone, which had been polished smooth by Bai Jin over thousands of epochs.
Bai Jin turned his head towards the bald man, puzzled, he asked, "Ksitigarbha?"
Ksitigarbha stood up, holding the cloth with both hands together, bowed his head respectfully and said, "Ksitigarbha greets the teacher!"
"Er~ Ksitigarbha, why are you here cleaning instead of transforming the fierce ghosts at Yin Mountain?"
Ksitigarbha stole a glance at Pingxin Goddess and said under his breath, "I made a mistake and am being punished."
Bai Jin looked at Pingxin Goddess and then sternly said, "How have I taught you usually? If you make a mistake, go and make amends. Is wiping the floor here useful? Aren’t you going back to work hard yet?"
Ksitigarbha stood still, not daring to move, bowing his head respectfully.
Pingxin leisurely said, "Since you’ve taken Bai Jin as your master, you should learn well from him. Bai Jin’s enlightenment is far greater than yours, go back now!"
Ksitigarbha replied reluctantly, "Yes!" I also want to make amends, but wasn’t it you, Goddess, who told me to wipe the floor?"
Ksitigarbha quickly left, walking out of Pingxin Palace, disappearing into the Netherworld.
Bai Jin sat on the green stone, peeling two fruits—one for the Goddess and one for himself.
Then peeled two more fruits, one for himself and one for the Goddess.
Pingxin leisurely commented, "Recently, the Primordial World has been quite troubled!"
Bai Jin swallowed the flesh of the fruit in his mouth and smiled, "It’s embarrassing for the Goddess to see, as the Holy Envoy of the Human Clan, I must do something."
"The incense faith should be carefully used, it can easily enhance strength, but also easily lead one into the evil path."
"The Goddess is absolutely right!"
"To sever all divine beings with a thought and to abolish the divine dao with a hand, the twilight of the gods falls like rain, such ruthless methods can only be done by Nuwa."
Er~ Bai Jin lowered his head obediently, this is not something he can comment on. From Nuwa’s perspective, it is to eradicate future troubles, from a neutral angle of Immortal Gods, it does seem somewhat ruthless, but these are not for him to judge, he still has this self-awareness.
Pingxin Goddess looked at Bai Jin with a frown and said, "More than seventeen hundred epochs have passed, how have you not yet comprehended your own Dao?"
Bai Jin embarrassingly said, "Disciple is dull, and has been unable to take that crucial step, making the Goddess laugh."
"As the Inspector of the Netherworld Underworld, your Dao should be under the Six Paths of Reincarnation, today I will preach the Dao to you."
Bai Jin hastily expressed his gratitude, "Thank you, Goddess!"
The sound of preaching resonated in the Pingxin Palace.
No one knows how much time passed, but after the preaching ended, Bai Jin took his leave from Pingxin Palace and headed straight to Yin Mountain.
Before the Ksitigarbha Temple at Yin Mountain, Ksitigarbha stood with a Divine Beast lying prostrate beside him, with the body of a dragon, the head of a tiger, a single horn on its head, dog ears fluttering, a lion’s tail, and qilin hooves treading on clouds.
Bai Jin arrived gracefully, and Ksitigarbha bent over respectfully saying, "I greet Master!"
Bai Jin solemnly said, "Body as the Bodhi Tree, heart as the bright mirror stand. Always strive to wipe it clean, lest dust should stain the land.
Ksitigarbha, do you still remember these words I gifted you when we first met?"
Ksitigarbha, with a guilty expression, responded, "I have disappointed my teacher!"
Bai Jin laid a hand on Ksitigarbha’s shoulder and said, "Follow me!"
Ksitigarbha followed Bai Jin towards the temple; Diting stood by, tilting his head and watching Bai Jin. Although he couldn’t hear his thoughts, it felt like he was coaxing the Bodhisattva.
The two entered the temple and sat down in the main hall.
Bai Jin spoke gravely, "Tell me! What exactly have you done?"
Ksitigarbha tentatively replied, "Has not the Goddess mentioned it to you?"
"The Goddess was busy preaching to me about the scriptures until now. She briefly mentioned your situation, which I heard in passing, and it involved the spirits of the Underworld. Now, explain everything to me in detail."
Ksitigarbha sighed enviously, "The Goddess truly preaches the Dao!"
"Now, say it! What exactly have you done? The Goddess is still furious with you."
Ksitigarbha paused for a moment, then spoke in a low voice, "I do not wish to deceive my teacher, but fellow disciples from the Western Sect came to me, asking me to help redirect some souls to perfect their Buddha Country."
Bai Jin immediately frowned, "Did you agree?"
Ksitigarbha nodded guiltily, "They are my fellow disciples after all. They earnestly pleaded, and it was hard to refuse. Moreover, entering the Buddha Country might indeed be fortunate for those spirits."
Bai Jin, furious with the lack of opposition, said, "Have you lost your senses? Or has the chilling wind at Yin Mountain seeped into your brain? Or have the evil spirits eaten your brain?"
"They are my fellow disciples."
"You treat them as fellow disciples, but do they acknowledge you?
Ksitigarbha, you must realize that you are now in the Underworld serving Goddess Ping Xin and accumulating merit. Once you offend the Goddess, your path will be fraught with difficulties, perhaps even trapping you forever."
"I understand!"
"Your fellow disciples in the Western Sect understand this too, but have they ever cared about your situation? No!
They know full well how dangerous this matter is for you, yet they still repeatedly begged you to do it. You talk to them about loyalty and sentiment, but they never considered your safety at all. Do you not see yet? The Western Sect has already abandoned you."
Ksitigarbha abruptly stood up, speaking sternly, "Teacher, you have guided me, and I respect you, but if you are trying to sow discord between me and the Western Sect, I would rather you leave!"
Bai Jin also got up, angry that there was no fight left in him, "Think about it yourself! Now give me the names of those disciples from the Western Sect who are collecting souls. I’ll see if I can still turn things around with Goddess Ping Xin and plead for a way out for you."
Ksitigarbha, with his hands clasped in prayer, bowed his head and said, "Thank you for your kindness, teacher. They are all my fellow disciples."
"Then you might as well prepare for death!" Bai Jin turned and left.
"Cough, Teacher, allow me to think..."
After a moment, Bai Jin entered Ksitigarbha Temple with a jade talisman, followed by Ksitigarbha.
Bai Jin stopped and said sternly, "Ksitigarbha, you once vowed not to achieve Buddha status until Hell is empty, and only when all beings are liberated will you attain Bodhi. You also said, if I don’t enter Hell, who will? I hope you always remember your original intention, distinguish priorities clearly, and avoid missteps. You are first the King of the Underworld, then the Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva of the Western Sect."
Ksitigarbha clasped his hands in prayer and replied, "Thank you for your teachings, teacher."
