Kranos took the first batch of herbs, then his mana flowed out from his mental space, through his meridians, and into the herbs. Soon, a pale blue light permeated the herbs.

The elder and his disciple stared at the pitch-black medicinal pill hovering in the air. "He succeeded?" The elder was stunned.

He faintly felt he had underestimated Kranos. His disciple beside him was in disbelief as well. "Maybe he got lucky?" he mouthed in shock, causing the elder to look at him as though he were stupid. However, after some thought, the elder then said to Kranos,

"Craft the medicinal pill once again."

Kranos also understood their doubts after hearing the youth’s words. Without any hesitation, a new batch of herbs was taken into his hands. His mana flowed smoothly, just like the previous time, and a pale blue ethereal light danced around his palm.

In a few minutes, another pitch-black pill appeared in Kranos’s hand. This time, the elder and his disciple could not refute the fact that Kranos had truly mastered crafting Rank 0 pills after observing it once.

"Good! Good! Good!" the elder exclaimed three times as he stared at Kranos. He was extremely pleased.

He continued after some thought, "It seems there is nothing much to teach you about this. Lessons will be put on hold for now. I will research and ask around to see where you can find a good flame to use in alchemy. After that, we can begin crafting Rank One pills. During this time, it’s best if you take some Rank 2 and 3 alchemy books and study as well so that reaching Rank 2 and 3 will be easy when you finally get the fire."

Listening to the elder’s words, Kranos nodded gratefully as the elf passed him a spatial ring containing some books. Kranos didn’t glance at them, as he could roughly guess their contents. He turned to the medicinal pills; he still had to try if he could purify the medicinal pills using mana. If that was possible, it would be a groundbreaking discovery.

"Elder, can I take the remaining herbs?" After some moments of hesitation, Kranos finally asked. The elder was stunned for a moment before nodding. He didn’t care about these herbs, as they were barely useful for him, who had gone far on the path of alchemy.

Kranos thanked the elder, then took all the medicinal herbs. After some more words, he walked back to his room to put his plan into practice. He could hardly suppress his curiosity as he rushed back to his room, eager to see if he would actually be able to create a Rank One pill with this technique.

As soon as he entered his room, Kranos sat cross-legged and then took out the herbs. His mana flowed through his meridians, and soon the room was filled with a light ethereal glow. This time, he didn’t suppress his mana in the slightest and released everything.

Immediately, as the mana entered the herbs, Kranos felt the same sensation as before. He could sense the impurities in the herb. He quickly split his use of mana in two, using one part to purify the herb while using the other part to extract the pure essence which seeped out from the herb.

Soon, it began to take shape. In the blink of an eye, the impurities in the medicinal herbs had been eliminated, and he was left with a pure, transparent liquid. "Why isn’t it taking shape?" Kranos wondered silently as he stared at the liquid that wasn’t solidifying.

His thoughts moved rapidly, and he soon came to the realization. "Could it be because I didn’t use fire? Previously, when I didn’t extract the impurities, it had shape, but by extracting the impurities, I’m left with this liquid, an elixir."

"Also, although the impurities are removed in the real alchemy process, it is because of the fire that the medicinal pill is able to take shape." Kranos guessed, and he felt he was right. He brought the transparent liquid to his nose, and an intoxicating medicinal fragrance drifted to his nose.

Kranos was stunned; "It smells even more potent than that of the elder from before!" He stared at the liquid in his hand. From the aroma, this had confirmed his guess that he had actually crafted a Rank 1 medicinal pill, or in this case, an elixir.
