Pokemon: The Gameboy Effect
Chapter 342: Mew

Chapter 342: Mew

The Tree of Beginning, was believed to be the origin of most ancient Pokemon. Legends claimed it was the very root of existence itself, that once the tree was destroyed, the world would gradually wither and die alongside it.

Of course, no one knew whether this legend held any truth. After all, both the Tree of Beginning and the world remained very much intact.

But one thing was certain: the Tree of Beginning existed in a symbiotic relationship with the legendary Pokemon known as the ancestor of all Pokemon, Mew. If the tree were destroyed, Mew would perish as well.

John had seen this principle demonstrated in the Pokemon movies from his previous life.

The three Regi Pokemon stood before John like silent sentinels, making no move to attack. They simply waited, dedicated guardians protecting both the Tree of Beginning and monitoring John’s intentions.

"Not letting me pass?" John mused aloud.

In the anime movies, the Tree of Beginning was a highly unique existence. The entry of outside creatures often triggered what could only be described as an "immune response" from the tree itself.

That’s right, an immune response, much like when a virus invaded the human body and caused illness.

Though the Tree of Beginning might appear to have a Rock-type body, its structure was actually crystalline. Due to its symbiosis with Mew, it remained a living entity.

Therefore, any unexpected intrusion would be perceived as a foreign virus, to be forcibly expelled by the three Regi Pokemon.

"The immune response only targets Pokemon that differ from those naturally residing within," John reasoned, gazing up at the Tree of Beginning as it continuously emanated energy. "So... if I can make the tree perceive me as one of its own, perhaps it’ll be less hostile?"

He stretched out his hand silently, releasing his Aura. The power spread quickly throughout his body, enveloping him in its familiar warmth.

The three Regi Pokemon remained motionless, their attitude unchanged from before.

John considered for a moment, then produced a Pokeball to recall Gardevoir, leaving only himself wrapped in energy.

Immediately, the three legendary guardians departed one after another, returning to their posts deeper within the Tree of Beginning’s garden.

"Bingo!" John lightly clenched his fist in satisfaction.

This idea had struck him for two reasons. First, the Tree of Beginning’s constant emission of energy had provided the crucial inspiration. Second, John had considered the Graves family’s involvement.

Since he’d found the entrance to the Tree of Beginning so easily, the family must have known about it for ages. And if they knew, the Graves family had undoubtedly explored here before.

For any exploration to succeed, the three Regi Pokemon would need to be dealt with. Since the Graves family hadn’t defeated them outright, they must have discovered another method of entry.

Combined with the Tree of Beginning’s characteristic energy emanations, John had conceived the idea of using his own power to camouflage himself and slip past undetected.

Obviously, his theory was spot-on!

John activated his wind manipulation abilities, carrying himself toward the Tree of Beginning through the air.

The surrounding Pokemon watched him with curiosity rather than fear, sensing the kindness in his energy aura. His power was inherently pure, creatures capable of mastering it, whether Pokemon or human, rarely harbored malicious intent.

Flying over the Tree of Beginning’s perimeter, John entered its interior structure.

Inside revealed a cave-like formation that was extraordinarily bright. The tree’s crystalline nature allowed daylight to filter through without obstruction, illuminating every corner.

After flying for five or six minutes, John suddenly spotted an elderly figure ahead.

Dressed in white training robes with graying hair, the man sat cross-legged on the ground with a serene expression. Like John, he was enveloped in energy.

Sensing John’s approach, the elder opened his eyes and called out firmly.

"No fighting within these walls! If your energy control wavers and can’t maintain your disguise, leave immediately!"

Having delivered his warning, the old man closed his eyes again. He showed no concern about John’s presence here, nor any intention of forcing him to depart.

"Yes, sir!" John quickly agreed. This had to be one of the Graves family elders, without question.

Continuing his exploration, John kept his treasure detector active and ready.

’I may not be able to take anything from within the Tree of Beginning, he reasoned, but since I’ve got a lock on something, I should at least discover what this legendary item actually is, right?’ John said in his mind.

After flying for more than ten minutes, John felt himself approaching the tree’s center. The energy in the air grew increasingly dense with each meter traveled.

Crystals began appearing along the walls, each piece emitting a gentle luminescence.

Finally, John flew into a chamber constructed entirely of crystal.

The floor, walls, and ceiling all consisted of softly glowing crystal formations, creating an almost ethereal atmosphere.

In the room’s center stood a massive crystal pillar. Atop this pillar sat what appeared to be a small nest, similar to a bird’s dwelling, but crafted from the same crystalline material.

A pink horn rested quietly within the nest, its surface adorned with delicate green vines.

The treasure detector confirmed this horn was the legendary Pokemon artifact it had detected.

"Could this be similar to the Rock Horn?" John immediately retrieved his Rock Horn from his inventory. Both were musical instruments, both legendary Pokemon artifacts, the parallels were unmistakable.

If his suspicions proved correct, this discovery would be an artifact among artifacts!

[Rock Horn: increased all attributes of Rock-type Pokemon by 25%, and when blown, boosted the power of Rock-type moves by 50%.]

Was this pink horn a Fairy-type equivalent? One capable of enhancing all attributes of Fairy-type Pokemon?

John harbored strong suspicions, but he made no move to approach and claim it.

The reason was simple: this was the Tree of Beginning’s heart, and if his guess was accurate...

"This should be Mew’s personal lair, shouldn’t it?" John recalled that Mew, living in symbiosis with the Tree of Beginning, resided within its core. This central location was almost certainly the legendary Pokemon’s private dwelling.

"Mew?"

As if responding to John’s speculation, a soft voice suddenly echoed through the crystalline chamber.

In the next instant, a pink and delicate figure materialized in the space before him.

It resembled a pink kitten with a slender tail, a graceful but slightly fragile-looking body, and large eyes sparkling with intelligence and curiosity.

Speak of the devil, and he shall appear.

Standing before John was the very legendary Pokemon he’d been thinking about, Mew itself.
